Why not Vick?
Hello vick did take his team to the nfc championship before, so he does got what it takes, not to mention he almost did it by himself, altlanta had zero weopons on there O, except crumpler . So i think if you put the man in the back field with...OH hell i dont know, maybe AP, Harvin and Taylor. not to mention shank and berrian lined up outside, then we would probably have ourselves a team. im think full house back field. I dont wanna hear this crap about gambling problems and trying to pay debts and throwing games. You wanna know who else has a gambling Problem Michael Jordan... yeah and you didnt see him throwing games to pay people back. Vick wants to return because he loves football. He has more than likely had a football in his hands the whole time he was at prison, so he wouldnt lose touch. all he most likely did was work out and throw the football. i mean what else would he do. I also want him because i know he will definately try his best. every one is gonna have him under the microscope, intense pressure, you name it. But that is all a human needs to extract will. Basically you say i cant...but damnit i will. i think he will have that attitude and be the player that he needs to be. Every one deserves a second chance and prison is litteraly a life changing experiance, one that makes you never come out the same. chilly has been known to take chances on players with reps(Percy, Benny sapp,) so it is a perfect marriage. Forget about the old man and lets get a real player. enjoy this

Not a bad argument da2213viking.
I think Vick has experience and alot of talent to give yet.
However, I think that I would lean more towards seeing what Sage or Tjax can do. I am not sure if TJax is on an upward swing in his learning, but I am willing to see, if he can beat Sage out for top QB. Personally, I think Sage will have the upper hand.

Just Imagine the Intro
It’s that big game on national TV, and when they cut to the clips of the Vikings’ offensive introductions, Michael’s face appears first on the screen with a scowl, and he announces himself, “Michael Vick, quarterback, United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth.”
(Top that, Tom Brady!)
It would be a different kind of offense with Vick, just like the Wildcat, not the kind of thing NFL defenses are currently being built to stop. That could be an advantage. Whom do the linebackers key on? Peterson? Harvin? Vick? Whilst they worry about stopping the run, we dagger them with nasty play action passes to Berrian or Shiancoe.
If Favre decides that he wants to try to put another O-ring on his lawn tractor rather than another Super Bowl ring on his finger, I feel those who say Sage and T-jack don’t scare anybody might just die of overconfidence. Favre was once Mr. Deerintheheadlights himself. People forget that we learn by making mistakes and then practicing until we can correct them. Favre didn’t arrive in the NFL as the Einstein of quarterbacks. He was just gutsy enough to keep throwing until he discovered which throws worked.
Those who predict the future wind up being wrong because the future is not exactly like the past. That’s all they’ve ever seen before, but remember, none of us come into this world ready to toss a football eighty yards through the air.

I like Vick... Just not in Minnesota
There is no denying that Vick has amazing talent. He has stepped up his play in big games, and he is a dual threat. I just don’t think he is right for the Vikings. (Although I do think Vick deserves a chance somewhere… Maybe the Raiders?)

May I?
Don’t we open in Cleveland? Well we play them in Cleveland at some point… Let’s put Vick in the dawg pound, sounds like a great idea..
Also, what he did was more than a little gambling problem and I don’t particularly like animals.
While I am making a rare visit to the blog, he’s probably not playing this year anywho… So why wait?
What up?

Um, fail.
No, no, and no. At the very least, the Wilfs don’t want the PR disaster that Vick would be.
Besides, we’ve already got a Vick-like QB that knows the system and has the respect of his teammates with Jackson. Why on earth do we need to even entertain this idea? We’re not the 49ers or anything.

The Vikings already have a scrambling, inaccurate passing QB...
Why would we want another one with 100 times the baggage? He’s approaching the age where runningbacks decline, and he’s not a good passer. No thank you.

Compete
I say, if he shows up, let him go up against T-Jack and Sage, and if he doesn’t shine like Polaris… waive him for the practice squad and let NE snatch him up. They need an extra QB now, don’t they?

bad idea
Signing Vick to be our qb is a bad idea and not only because of the horrible PR it would receive. We have AP, Taylor and now Harvin who all have explosive ability to run the ball, we need someone who can run a consistent passing game. I am not knocking Vick as an athelete, I think he is a great scrambler but a below average passer. It’s only my opinion but with Anderson getting a big contract from the Browns maybe Brady Quinn would be a better possibility.
by prymetyme1 on May 26, 2009 10:19 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
35 fumbles in his last three seasons
Let’s add that to his INT’s for those three years (38) and that is a lot of balls that did not go where they were supposed to.
Not to mention his average of getting sacked 40 time a year.
And his 53.8% completion rate.
We need a guy who can throw the ball, we already have plenty of guys who can run and catch the ball.
Besides. BRAD CHILDRESS is the head coach, do you actually think he will allow Vick to scramble around in the backfield?

… Two passes at the end make him a good passer? At least he had a 100% completion percentage in the video. But in the actual NFL, he only had around 53%. He really isn’t an awesome passer at all. He was fast, no denying that, but an awesome passer he was/is not.
by Frost on May 26, 2009 1:08 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Whoops
I watched the reply one. But the fact still stands that he wasn’t a good passing QB at all. I could make highlights of Tavaris Jackson throws and TDs and make him look just as good, but that doesn’t mean he’s an awesome passer.
by Frost on May 26, 2009 1:15 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm sure...
I’m sure you could put together some clips of Ryan Leaf to make him look good too. The statistics, however, do not lie (for either Leaf or Vick).
Unfair comparison, I know. Vick is an outstanding ATHLETE. The Vikings, however, don’t need an athlete. They need a quarterback. Vick, that ain’t.

Come on, lets be real, anyone can put together a couple clips an say, look at how great this guy is. Im sure if I looked a little I could find a Ryan Leaf or Akili Smith highlight reels. Truth is, I have been watching Vick play alot over the years, I watched his college years an into the pros. He is at best a glorified running back. While yes, he is a great athlete, to bring him in to play QB would be STUPID. His numbers don’t lie. The reason he is an option style QB is because he can’t throw consistantly accurate. His legs allowed him to do what he did in college an he was never expected to learn how to read defenses. So when he got into the pros, an was asked to be a part time pocket guy, he wasnt able to. He still cant read D, just as T Jack cant. Looking over some of the posts on here it looks like there are a couple of you that want to hold onto the fact that he had no help there in Atlanta, but maybe if he wasnt so busy pulling down the ball so he could run, an gave his guys a second or two to run their route, an then he trusted that his teammates would catch the ball if he ever threw it in a place, there would be a realization that he wasnt without talent around him. He isn’t the type of guy that gives a crap about his teammates, its only about Vick. His little brother was a much better passer, an thats not saying much. Vick is garbage an dont let any highlight reel fool you into thinking otherwise. The Vikes are going against their conduct code enough already, they certainly don’t need to bring in that cancer to the team as well. Go get Quinn, an build from there.
by bishop117702 on May 26, 2009 1:57 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Really? As if AP putting the ball on the ground isn't bad enough.
The Vikes will never complete a drive with Vick at the helm.
But there is some very interesting news coming out of Indy.
Payton Manning Doesn’t seem too happy that Mudd and Moore are retiring and the current coaching staff (Head coach Jim Caldwell in particular) are not reaching out to the players. He’s also uncertain how it will all play out, but I’ll go on record to say, if the colts lose in the first round playoffs again, or miss the playoffs entirely, Manning could be playing on a different team in 2010.
And If the Colt’s trade Manning, Wouldn’t they most likely trade him to an NFC team?

I would have said the same thing last year
about Jay Cutler. When it comes to the NFL, never say never.
Manning’s 33 years old. how much more time and money do you think the colts can put into him, especially if he wouldn’t want to play there anymore?
Think With Your Dipstick Jimmy!

Cutler...
That is a good point. I think Manning is a bit of a different story. He doesn’t whine or complain. He’s humble, professional, and most importantly, the man just wins. He has a Super Bowl, though the Colts do tend to underachieve, I wouldn’t put Cutler in the same eschelon as Manning. He’s close; if Cutler can win consistently, he’ll be up there, but right now, Manning is one of the top three QBs in the league. It would cost an entire draft to get Manning from the Colts.
Not only that, but I think the city would implode if he got traded. I just could never see it happening.
However, that being said, you’re right: This is the NFL. Stranger things can happen.

Trying to take a shot at my QB huh? So please list all the times cutler "whined and complained". I honestly don't recall any of that.
Not only that, but I think the city would implode if he got traded. I just could never see it happening.
Indianapolis is not a football town. They wouldn’t give a shit. They love F1 racing and Basketball. As soon as I found out Moore and Mudd were gonna leave, I thought to myself that it wouldn’t be a surprise if Manning is not a Colt in 2010. What he said in OTAs today further Justify my Beliefs. He and Caldwell have already started off on the wrong foot. Not good at all.
If you learn one thing from guys like Marino, Favre, and most recently Cutler, some don’t take well to regime changes.
A regime change is ultimately what drove off Daunte Culpepper, if I recall.
Think With Your Dipstick Jimmy!

Contract disputes is what drove off Culpepper. He wanted big bucks even though he was damaged goods and hadn’t been playing very well without Moss. Childress wouldn’t have it. So he got traded.
by Frost on May 26, 2009 5:48 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sure. Tice wasn't just Culpepper's coach, they were good friends.
You don’t think his contract disputes were just a smokescreen? Moss bolts for oakland, Burlesen heads to Seattle, Ownership, coaching staff, and the front office changes in what seemed overnight and he was coming off a year in which he was playing horrid before blowing his knee out and put on IR, and let’s not forget the “loveboat” saga.
He wanted out, and he knew he wasn’t getting an extension, so he used that as a ploy to get out.

I wasn't implying Cutler whines or complains...
I was saying that Manning does not do those things. And pointing out that Manning is completely established whereas Cutler is still budding. All I did was say how good Cutler can be, and you completely took one of the minor things that wasn’t even aimed at Culter and skewed it that way.
Are you worried about it or something?

yeah I’d be worried if some young new Bears coach decided to do something stupid like try and trade him for an overrated backup QB.

Manimal is right...
Manning is almost more of a head coach than a QB.
Not to mention the fact that the Colts have nobody to replace him with. Curtis Painter? Chris Crane? Jim Sorgi? Jim Sorgi is probably the closest thing to a QB they have and he is built like a twig. 6’5" and 196 pounds?
But, he does have a good record of coming in and playing well with a career QB rating of 89.9.
Manning is not leaving Indy. I would love to have him here in Minnesota, and might even give my left pinkie if it would persuade Manning to join us.
But it is simply not going to happen.

Never. Happen.
If the Vikes sign Vick Wilf can forever kiss a stadium goodbye. One of the main reasons the Legislature rebuffed McCombs in good economic times was because the Vikings were not only bad on the field, but bad off. Minnesotans don’t do thuggery well, and if you bring in what many people consider to be the ultimate thug and then ask for over $700 million?
No and no. I mean, there’s Birkenstock and Granola crowds, and then there’s Minnesotans. Who would be asked to pony up serious coin for a team who’s franchise face is that of a doggie Mass murderer.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m digging the irony, but I want the Vikes to stay in the Land of Franken.

I wouldn’t mind a whole lot if they brought him in, but I know many people would. And right now, it’s all about making the people happy (and winning obviously, but Vick wouldn’t do enough on the field to make up for the damage he’d do to the public image).
