Poll: Do You Want Brett?

Over the last couple of months, there have been dozens of threads about Brett Favre, and dozens of different opinions thrown around regarding his potential future with the Vikings.  The dicussions always seem to go the same way, and honestly have gotten a bit tiresome.

But, it is the offseason, and there isn't much to talk about outside of Favre.  So, let's make a poll to try and quantify your feelings... sort of a consolidated consensus on where Vikings fans stand.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and bet that 70% of you will vote that you don't want him, but if he signs, 70% of you will be elated.  But I could be wrong.  Maybe Vikes fans are better than that.  But I doubt it  :)

Poll
Do you want Brett Favre as the Vikings starting QB for the 2009 season?

In all honesty do you think Da Bears have enough chips to cash in after going ‘all in’ on Cutler? A one year deal to test the legal issues of those players?

I'll disregard your first comment,

and reply to this one. Burress and Jones are both FAs, and probably 2 guys who would not cost that much to acquire. Burress is still an unknown at this point, because Goodell still has not made a decision… but Plax will most assuredly get at least a 4 game suspension.

As far as Marshall, we would likely have to offer a player-for-player trade… and that has never been Jerry Angelo’s style. Then again, he surprised everyone this offseason, so who knows.

Thanks...

for adding to the tiresome discussion and performing an experiment. We admire people who seek the truth, rather than just make stuff up like ESPN, including the French, because Minnesota is the only state the has French on its flag.

Your statements... they confuse me.

Are you appreciating the poll (experiment) or making a back-handed statement about adding to the tiresome topic?

And are you saying that the French are seeking truth because the Minnesota State Flag has a French saying on it?

Confuscation

Perhaps it’s a commentary on your back-handed topic where you pretend to want to add something of value to the discussion while in fact you’re just mocking the situation, the Vikings, and Vikings fans.

I have to admit, I used to think you were an ok guy, for a Bears-fan. Time and observation has born out that in fact, you really are just a bearish troll who’s learned to drag a comb through your tangles so that you can pretend to be sufficiently decent enough to be accepted by those who aren’t paying as much attention to your bullshit.

You get a ‘no vote’ from me. That is, a no-vote of non-participation in your latest foray into Vikingland and a non-vote to your exportation of the Chicago Way. I will, however, follow the otherwise excellent advice on your tag-line.

Just because I dislike GB so much and to stop all DaBears fans from flapping their gums on how much better their QB is than the Vikings, also this would really liven up all the NFC North’s rivalries. We will truly be the best and deepest at the QB position by far. Go Vikes!!!

you think that Favre would be the best QB in the North, and Favre/ Jackson/ Rosenfels would be the best depth?

That is the best you could come up with?

A promising young QB backed up by a guy (Flynn) who is 2/5 for 6 total passing yards in his career. Then they round it out with brohm who hasn’t even played an NFL snap.

You won’t get any arguments from me that Rodgers is the most talented starter, but even the Lions have more QB depth than the packers (or bears).

http://vikingsmashfootball.wordpress.com/

by BeardedAxe on Jun 17, 2009 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Typically, you don’t need that much depth at QB anyways. Most starters, the good ones anyways, tend to avoid injuries. Sure, freak accidents happen, but an arguement over who has the best depth at QB is akin to arguing who has the best depth at Punter.

by Frost on Jun 18, 2009 1:27 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

QB-Punter

Used to be a much more popular player, added a lot of interesting flexibility to the game, as well as depth :) . Don’t see it much any more.

by DCPurple on Jun 18, 2009 8:37 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not quite

If you are willing to completely gamble an entire season based on one guy’s health than QB depth is not necessary.

You need to have atleast one capable guy who knows the system well.

REALLY?

If I can jump in here, If we are talking about all QB’s on the current rosters how do you vikings or Bears fans even start talking ? Culpizzle / Stafford and It don’t matter who the 3rd one is.!!!! Are we counting Pro-bowls? then IF favre comes here then you are up on us all but not you BEARS fans you traded away your franchise for a default Pro-bowler and yes Cutlery is a default Pro-bowler due to the fact that Brady was hurt all year and Big Ben declined the invite to go play in the Superbowl, and the cherry on top you traded for the second best QB in the AFC west. Now I realize as a lions fan I get crapped on but at least we don’t trade away the house for cardboard box.

I guess I just don’t understand the need for this poll, 1 fanpost after I wrote basically the same thing.
Honestly, I think at this point, most of us have realized that Brett is going to be a Viking. I, like many of my fellow fans, have become numb to the whole situation. Bottom line is this. I am a Vikings fan first and foremost. I love my Vikings way more than I hate the Packers. If Brett Favre becomes a Viking, I will accept that. If he doesn’t, I will accept that as well. I just want the season to start so I can see what Percy Harvin is capable of, to see Jared Allen try and capture the sack record, and… wait, I know I’m forgetting something…. O yeah! could have also been seen regarding the Jay Cutler talks. A lot of Bears fans said that they did not want Cutler, due to his childish behavior, and turned around and were excited when we got him.

I expect the same in the Favre situation. It’s not a difficult concept to grasp.

I'll give you AP

as the best back in the game, when not nursing that turf-toe he had last year. I can’t see him having 2000 yrds though, just being a realist here, the Bears D-fence is still damn good although getting older,Dom Capers is a very good D-cordinator and they have some really good talent on that side of the ball, then you have the Wild-card Lions who got rid of almost every one of those bumms from last year that couldn’t tackle a dead man in a grave from last year. And thats just our division then you have too play the Steelers and the Ravens as well. . . Be happy with 1500 yards guys.

ah keywords

As soon, which means he hasn’t reached that platform as of yet.I do think this is AP’s year to be the best back in the league/pending injury/ but untill he does show us that he can do that I am giving the nod to LT.

by davis0169 on Jul 1, 2009 8:21 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

he’s only played 2 years and has knocked on the door to 2000 both years. it’s only a matter of time. i can see him having multiple 2000 yard seasons. he’s all ready the best back in the game right now. when he becomes a better blocker and receiver, he’ll be the best running back ever to play.

lt is good but he’s done. he’ll never be as good as he was. ap is already as good as he was.

you can’t post about ap not being the best on a viking blog without someone setting you straight! ;)

I'm with you PurplePeopleEaters

Theres nothing i love more then watching my vikings on sundays and the occasional primetime game. The excitement that boils through me is uncontrolable. Theres way more to this team then Favre to be anxious for. Pulling for the guys that are rookies and guys looking for their shot at a spot. Every game I was amazed by Adrian Petersons abilities. his passion shines on the football field right into the T.V. I love it when our defense takes the field. Those guys fly around, and play like beasts. 3 years now as the leagues #1 run defense and close to 1st on offense. certainly backs up the physicality they perform. E.J. Henderson is my pick to be the NFC defensive MVP. Berrian should be cleared of turf toe. (Painful) and Rice’s Knee should be close to 100% by training camp. Jaymar Johnson putting on 20+ odd pounds, a whole new player. Chestor Taylor, who without peterson would likely make the pro-bowl. Seeing first hand in Cleveland just how quick of a step harvin has. 2 6’8 Tackles. Hutchinson in the middle, and the unknown at Center. Oh, and brett Favre.

Mixed feelings about Favre

From purely an entertainment aspect, I would LOVE to see Brett Favre become the Vikings QB. Every single home game would be a sellout long before the season started, the national media would be hanging all over the Vikings, and fans would have a certain confidence that the Vikings could win any game in the 4th quarter trailing by 8 points or less.

Yet, Favre’s history of tailing off in the second half of the season over the past six years is well documented. How much of that is due to aging or fatigue vs. cold weather setting in at Lambeau is unknown. Favre is probably only a one year solution, two if the Vikings are extremely lucky. Many Viking fans do not feel as I do, but I really believe Jackson has the tools to become a franchise QB. Bringing Favre on probably signals the end of Jackson’s Viking career as his rookie contract is up at the end of the year. Regardless, neither Jackson or Rosenfels will stand much chance of developing this season if Favre is brought in to be the starter.

The Vikings won 10 games last year with Jackson and Frerotte at QB, and many of the losses could be blamed on poor special teams play or ill-timed fumbles (often by Peterson). How many more games will Favre win over Jackson/Rosenfels? If Favre doesn’t at least advance the Vikings to the NFCCG (or perhaps even the SB), will all this have been worth it? I just don’t know, but I am very excited for the possibility of seeing the old warrior suit up in purple this season. If he doesn’t, it won’t bother me a bit. I just hope the results will live up to all the hype.

by purplepat on Jun 17, 2009 3:44 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Depth is in the Vikes favor

I tried to reply to the QB depth question in the NFC north but..no workee. The Vikes have the best depth period. I cannot believe that Cutler/Flynn (WHO?)/Brohm(huh?) have any advantage over our three QBs if Bart is in the fold.

Watch what you’re wishing for. Cutler hasnt proven a damned thing in this league. Keep your stats. That El’Foldo he pulled with the Donkeys last year was an EPIC FAIL. I hate to beat a dead horse but whom, exactly, is he going to throw it to anyway? Olsen? Thats one guy.

The depth question is a no brainer. I think you get my point here.

Stupid?!

OK, you are the #1 Viking fan, so I’ll let it slide. The more I think about it, the more I am hating the idea of Favre on our team. I have despised him for so many years. I know, he is a future “Hall of Famer” (I say as I finger two sets of quotation marks in the air) and he is a “football player” (I say as I silently imagine John Madden sky diving with a failed shoot). But you know? F**k Madden and f**k Brett Favre. I don’t want the Vikings to be a part of his selfish legacy.

Perhaps it's a Minnesota thing...

but I’ve met some Vikings fans out here on the west coast, and none of us want to see Favre in our beloved purple and gold. He’s going to throw 20 INT’s to go along with the 30 TD’s and that just is too many for a team that only needs a game manager QB(and I’m sorry to say, Tavaris is better at managing and controlling the TO’s than Brett).

by BacksThePack on Jun 18, 2009 8:11 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

You probably don’t run into too many Packers fans out there. At least, not in the quantity that we do in Minnesota. I for one am going to enjoy rubbing it in a few of my buddies’ faces if Favre just trashes the Packers. Should be fun. Of course, if he throws 4 picks and we end up losing, then I’ve got egg on my face. But oh well.
