NFL lawyers: No immediate action against 2 Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—Lawyers for the NFL say the league won’t try to enforce its four-game suspension of Minnesota Vikings Kevin Williams(notes) and Pat Williams(notes) for their use of a banned substance for the moment.

Attorneys for the Williamses and the NFL appeared Tuesday before Hennepin County District Judge Gary Larson as the star defensive tackles fight their four-game suspensions.

The Williamses tested positive last year for a banned diuretic that can mask the presence of steroids. A federal judge last week dismissed most of the Williamses’ lawsuit but sent the case back to state court to resolve two remaining claims.

Larson told both sides to file briefs later this month addressing whether his temporary restraining order against the suspensions remains in place, and whether he has jurisdiction.
