Marvin Harrison??
I don't have ESPN Insider, and I refuse to pay money to read their wild speculations, but I just saw a headline that said Marvin Harrison to the Vikings.
I was just wondering what everyone thought about the idea of adding him to our roster. I think he would add veteran leadership and some sure hands to our receiver corps. However, is he too old and slow? And, if this rumor is true, what does this say about our front office? An over-the-hill quarterback throwing to an over-the-hill receiver. Thinking about it, though, I guess it would be an interesting dynamic considering Percy Harvin and Bernard Berrian....

I think he still has some Juice in the tank
But I just don’t see a place for him. I would take a healthy Rice over Marvin any day, but the key word there is healthy.
I watched some Colts games last year though and I think Marvin still has it in him to play somewhere.

If he does sign, I can’t see him being anything better than a #4 at this point. I’m not really excited about him, but if he makes the roster better, I’d be for it. I just seriously doubt he makes the roster any better. I know he can’t crack the top 3, unless he’s gotten better than he was last year.

Harrison would be the #2 and Harvin would be the slot/wing position we drafted him for.

Rice is better
Rice showed some great flashes his rookie year. Anyone who follows fantasy football knows, 3rd year is the charm for WR’s. I fully expect Rice to step up and become a real threat. And I forgot all about Wade. Harrison would be more like a #5. I just don’t see room for him on the roster. Last year Harrison really took a step backwards after the knee injury. I’ve read no one will offer him real money because the belief is he will never play at a high level again.
On top of all that, there is the fact that he had that whole gun issue in Philly and I don’t see why the Vikes should bother. Chicago could use him as a #2, but Minnesota is really deep with legit talent at WR.
Mark my words, Rice breaks out and steps up this year. The only reason he might not is because there are so many people to get the ball to already.

Percy Harvin....
….doesn’t need that kind of leadership.

What I meant by that was that Harrison and Harvin could both be “underneath” type of receivers, with Harvin being the explosive, open field type, and Harrison being the possession type.

R U serious?
O.K. guys and Gals? over here in the norsemen, first off Hello from a die-hard Lions fan. . . . .O.K. now that you stopped laughing. . .i gotta say R U kidding about Harvin not needing leadership, or are you being sarcastic? Did Moss need that kind of leadership from Carter . . . .Yes. . . .Doesn’t every single rookie that comes into the league need hat kind of leadership . . . Yes. Look guys I am a TRUE FAN of the game and I am not a big Vikes fan ofcourse but many people around the league think that Harvin was a wasted pick for you guys not because of the off field issues he had prior to he draft but because he was a Florida Gator and they just don’t seem to transition into the NFL that well, at least the offensive players that is. I don’t want to come off as a dink on any of thee 4 sites for our division but ah stick to what is working for you guys. . .the ball is hiked and the QB turns and hands the ball off to the “possibly” best young back in the game. Not some rookie that probably wont pan out any real stats for 2 to 3 years at the least, if you guys have a shot at Harrison I’d be all over it he knows what it takes and could teach all of your young WR’s how to play the game and act mature, not saying Berriman couldn’t but thats like comparing apples to oranges Harrison is still 1 of the best route runners in the game today and wasn’t that 1 of the knocks against Harvin coming outta school? As I see it it would be like getting C.C. back again a true mentor.

Harrison...
might give you the dynamicof the sure hands for a first down. With his experience he knows (much like Cris Carter) when the hit is coming and how to absorb it. At the right price and with BF throwing these 2 vets could provide some valuable lessons to guys like Rice and Harvin. Hopefully BF can help T-jax or Copter something on checking multiple short route recievers.

I like it... I think..
BUT… That means we don’t have any room for Darius Reynaud, Aundrae Allison, Jaymar Johnson, Glenn Holt, etc… Would we then trade or release Bobby Wade so we could have the P/K returner, or do we turn Percy loose to return punts and kicks??
I think Sidney Rice and BB could learn A LOT from having one of Indy’s “Field Coaches” pushing him, I mean the guy is a genious at his position, and if he’s willing to accept his role on the team, what do we really have to lose?? We may lose 1-2 of those aformentioned receivers to another team, but we have a young top 3 set of receivers… Do we really need the also-ran’s??
Also, do any of the receivers on the roster translate to D-Back’s?? Didn’t we convert Robert Tate or something from WR to DB back in the Denny Green years??

Not Happening.
Harrison wants big $$ or he will retire. If he changed his mind about big $$, Indy will sign him for say $2M a year, just because of his understanding of Peyton and the system, but he’s not worth even that to any other team.

Very possible, but...
The only reason why I’d think Harrison would go elsewhere for a small-money deal is that he may be miffed at the Colts’ coaches and management for making him play 2nd or even 3rd fiddle to Wayne and Gonzalez. Harrison seems like a very proud guy that wants to prove he still has something left, and perhaps he wants to stick it to his old team…wait, who were we talking about again? :)

I think he's probably done playing, but who knows
The Colts tried to renegoiate his deal so he would retire a Colt, he refused so they cut him to avoid the cap hit. He then tried the open market looking for around $6M a year is my understanding. There were no takers. I haven’t read anything about him being upset with the Colts. He situation is really nothing like Brett’s. Of course, I’m one of the people who thinks Brett wants to play with the Vikings because they are likely the best team in the league taht has an opening at QB. Put the rivalry with GB and the revenge things away for a second. If you were a free agent starting QB, which current NFL team would you want to go to? Which team is the best in the league if you don’t count the QB position? The answer to both questions is probably the Vikings. The answer to both questions last year was probably also the vikings. I think getting to play the Packers twice is just icing, not the cake.

Haha you guys are all ridiculous
Rice has potential, but hasn’t lived up to it. He has hardly even played any games in his career. He is not better then Harrison, I don’t care how old Harrison is.

I don’t think the argument is necessarily that he is “Better” but that he has more of an upside than Harrison.
Rice is a big target with great hands, that makes a great possession receiver if he can stay healthy.

O well of course
He definitely has more upside. This will only be his 3rd year in the league right? I just don’t think he is better right now.

Marvin
I would like to see Harvin turn into the #2 WR but that can wait til next year. This year they can line him up everywhere. Rice has done nothing. He is a good option in the red zone but must stay healthy. As long as bringing in Harrison doesn’t take too many toches awy from Harvin I’m okay with it. Harvin could also learn from one of the best rout runners the league has ever seen.

Good point
Harrison could help a guy like Harvin, and he needs it. A lot of people have talked about how Harvin’s route running is very suspect.

how about
a cutler skin rug. . . .just kidding ofcourse playing on his team there. Now this is the team that he should of tryed to come to not the Bears they have no true speed at the WR position unlike the Vikes, I hope the crybaby Cutlery fall so flat on his face, cause we all know that Bears fans will run him outta town fast just ask Orton.

I would have to say...
We take Harrison for a one year deal, contingent upon him joining the coaching team afterwards.
That way he can spend a year catching Brett Favre bullets instead of trying to get other people to catch his FN 5-7 bullets.
