No Vikings-Chiefs Scrimmage This Summer
That's a shame -- I've made a habit of attending the scrimmage each summer, so it's too bad to see it scratched from the training camp schedule:
Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress said his team would not practice against the Kansas City Chiefs this year during training camp.
"They got so many different things going on ... they're thinking this year that they don't want to do it," Childress said today. "That's good with us."

Awe
I’ll miss hearing about the NHL style fights breaking out between the teams, but yeah, also no more scoping out players so when we stupidly cut them to resign them to the practice squad, they don’t snatch them up.
"If you're gonna shoot, shoot, don't talk"
I went to River Falls the year Robert Smith was a rookie. We got his autograph, Todd Scott’s, Henry Thomas’s, and Denny Green’s. I saw Joe Montana, AC, CC, Randall McDaniel, Derrick Thomas, John Randle, tons of guys right up close. Tim Irwin and Steve Jordan were the biggest dudes I ever saw in my life.
Too bad that won’t happen. It was a lot of fun.
Pros & Cons
The Vikes lose an early practice scrimmage that I personally think was helpful… but the Chiefs don’t get to scout out Viking players, either. Probably a loss, over all.
Fine with me
I never understood them doing that anyway. Why risk injuring a starter at a time when when everyone is still trying to make the team? We don’t need some rookie lineman rolling over one of the Williams knee’s or some stupid thing like that.
I can see a scrimmage game with a mixture of 2nd and 3rd stringers, but I wouldn’t subject any of my starters to a worthless game like that.
