Special teams
What's teh deal with special teams
i thought i remember that we fired whoever the coach was but dont remember who we replaced him with
i guess we can only go up from last year, so im hoping this year the special teams wont lose us games
Who has the inside track to starting this year on special teams, Brinkley, Asher Allen, others?
Also, does Kluwe have any competition cause i know he can boot it, but he always outkicks the coverage which is a reason we give big plays

Allen will certainly be a special teams guy, but Brinkley is a bit slow for punt or kick coverage. At least, I am assuming that based on his pass coverage and LCL injury.
We also picked up Karl Paymah who is a great outside gunner, and with Heath Farwell and other special team Aces back from injury, we will likely have less problems this year.

We hired...
the assistant special team’s coach. Hopefully he wasn’t paying too much attention to his boss. LOL

It has cost us
Having such poor play….giving up Field position so early and often in games….and it makes the D start with their backs to the wall way to often. Imagine if we could have kept the avg. starting position on the field to the 20 or 25 yard line.
It cost us maybe as many as 2 or 3 games imo…as it is much harder to sustain drives of 70 to 80 yards.
I do hope that having some guys back from injury and time to learn gives us better ST’s play. It could make our D that much more of a monster…and give them a better chance at some take aways, giving our O the field position for a change.

this is our number 1 problem
even bigger than our qb situation. hopefully this gets addressed and we are at least average on both sides. i don’t know about 2 or 3 games but it cost us as least 1 and possibly more as well as almost costing us at least 2 others.

No where else to go but up
Brian Murphy replaced Paul Fererro who went on to coach the Ram’s LB’s. He is a young man who has worked hard as an assistant and now he is given a chance to prove himself. Obvious the administration believes he will get it done.
On a talent stand point we should be better as Bjorno mentioned but his view on Brinkley is wrong. Brinkley will be two years removed from his knee injury and his tackling skills are needed on special teams not pass coverage skills. Brinkley is a thumper, all the draft “experts” called him," the hardest hitting LB coming oout fo the draft."
Our return game is where our biggest improvement will be with Harvin and Allen returning kicks, not to mention the darkhorse: Jarmar Johnson. He has come on strong after spending last year on the practise squad and looks like he might win the punt returning job. He came into the league as one of the fastest players and could bring some added explosiveness our team needs.
So with that said I believe our return game will offset whatever shortcomings our coverage team may have.
