Moderator?
I have been coming to this site for quite a while now, and this is the worst I have ever seen it. Entire threads with 200+ comments just to dis on someone? That stayed up WAYYY too long as it was. And now there is a post about soldiers. While I respect the hell out of them and what they are doing, this is a football site and there is no need for that here. It is going to turn political real quick unless you do something about it Gonzo.
I say we need a moderator. Gonzo is a great blogger, but with his hectic schedule he can not moderate this site like it should be. I am not nominating myself. Rather I am simply raising awareness. Are there any volunteers? Any nominations? Do you feel that we even need a moderator here at the Daily Norseman?
If the majority of the people want a moderator, and we have a few volunteers/ nominations, I will do another post with a poll so we can all vote on who the moderator will be.
Enjoy your weekend everybody.
This FanPost was created by a registered user of The Daily Norseman, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the staff of the site. However, since this is a community, that view is no less important.

After another rediclous post...
I am glad to hear you bring this up. A moderator does not have to be a “blog nazi” or evaluator of true Viking fans (and yes even visiting fans) opinions on football. Just get rid of trollers who come to fight and foolish fan posts.
We should not worry about a sensor of everything and a moderator that keeps an open mind will not have to really do to much unless it is really needed.
Thanks PPE09
It wouldn’t be to bad to have one but I don’t think its needed. I almost never see any serious flaming going on and trolls rarely post.

I didn't think we needed one either
until the last couple weeks or so. The quality of the posts and comments seem to have gone hill drastically. I just wanted to get a general feel for the majority of DN contributors.

I voted yes, but I think it’s important that there not be too much control. I feel that the setup we have right now works pretty well. A little oversight is good as long is it doesn’t get to the point where people are worried about posting their opinions.
In AP I trust
Just say no to Favre.

Moderation Needed
This is the internet, and an unmoderated site is an open invitation to trolls and flames. A small, slow, rarely frequented site might get away without having someone at the helm, but a site with a million hits, capable of generating a couple hundred posts within 4 hours, is another matter entirely.
A moderator doesn’t need to be heavy-handed, just having the authority to step in on a thread and remind folks to stay on target, or knock off the foolishness, is usually sufficient and effective. Unfortunately, that’s not something that a typical user with zero authority on the site can accomplish.
No one stepped up to the plate until things had gotten so bad that there were dedicated threads to the user-on-user pummeling, and that’s not moderation; that’s a failure of moderation.
Still, it’s not my site and not my decision, and probably not the decision of any of us posting in this thread. I enjoy the DN, I enjoy yapping with most of the writers here and exchanging ideas, learning new things about our favorite team. I really appreciate the discussions here.
If things go to hell in a hand-basket here, I can just find another site to hang out in. Not a threat or anything, just a statement of fact; I got no dog in this hunt. Usually the specific goal of most trolls, to drive people off and wreck a site that’s run by someone they don’t like, or a site that promotes ideas they don’t agree with. Without moderation, they will win.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!
I would volunteer, but then every anti-TJack post would be nuked immediately. ;)
No, I think we should just be more diligent in flagging posts that are inappropriate. That way we are able to self-moderate for the most part.
It wouldn’t hurt to have a few people who can do certain things similar to gaming servers. If someone is a cancer on the site, certain players can initiate a vote to vote someone off the server. Granted, sbnation probably does not have that type of functionality, but it would be nice to have.
Don’t we already have another “mod” in anthony21? Doesn’t he have some power? Or is it just the power to post on the main page?

I volunteer...
I can do it well during the week, but not so much on the weekend. I’d be glad to help out the DN. So yes, I volunteer to be a moderator, if it came to that.

Ha ha.
Maybe, but I can be partial, too. If I was a moderator, that’d be a lot easier. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’ll happen. Oh well.

You seem like a guy with a good head on his shoulders. I have no problem nominating you for moderator. But then again, it’s not really up to me. Lol

I appreciate that.
At least to someone I don’t come off as a condescending jackass. That’s how I feel like I sound sometimes. Not intended =P

Bottom line?
We really, really, really, really need the season to start. Everyone’s running out of stuff to comment and write about. :)
