Which division has the best? Part 2: NFC North

Ok, I will be making a all star team form each division. Starters and Backups. Based on comments I might tweak the teams a little. After the teams are finished we will vote the best through the worst. Each week we vote which all star team gets booted when they get booted. The team with the most votes each week played the team with the least. Then the second most vs the second least and etc. Then we vote off who would has the least chance. Here's the NFC North!

Edited!

On the positions...

RB – Kevin Smith isn’t good enough to hold the cups for the other backups.

WR – I’d take Driver before I took Berrian. (Sorry folks, it’s true.)

TE – I’d drop Lee and pick up Desmond Clark.

T – Considering Loadholt’s going to be taking Cook’s spot on the line, I’d replace Cook’s spot on the bench with Loadholt. Until he plays, I can’t say to move him up to the active roster, but I think I’d swap him and McKinnie as well. (I’ve never been impressed by McKinnie.)

G, C, DE, DT – No complaints.

OLB – I’d bench Sims and Peterson in favor of Hawk and Greenway.

MLB – I’d bench Urlacher for Barnett.

And no further complaints.

Aside from that you’re starting more than 11 on both sides of the ball. If you were just coming out with 11 on each side, who would you pick?

When you go to somebody's house, you don't crap on their floor. Being a fan of one team does NOT give you license to be a dick to fans of another.

I agree with Robert on his WR and MLB comments

Berrian may deserve reconsideration once we can see what he can do when he gets strong & consistent play from his QB. Driver certainly has had the advantage there, catching passes first from Favre then Rodgers.

on Urlacher, I think he’s slid quite a bit in lat year or two. leaving me with feeling he has to prove he hasn’;t lost it before I’d “start” him.

With all due respect to R4F (well, ok, maybe not too much respect), it’s the same argument that would have me put Cutler and Rodgers ahead of Favre. If Favre can come back to his 2007 or mid 2008 form, then I’d put him back in no doubt. Also I’m skeptical Cutler will look as good on the Bears (who have no quality WR) as he did on Broncs. But at the moment, he gets the nod. Heck, we don’t even know for sure if Favre can throw well enough to even be able to play again!

skeptical? that’s it? I’ll go with “Extremely certain” or “willing to bet my left nut”. The Broncos had better WRs for sure, but they also had a pretty good O-Line too, and I don’t think they got the credit they deserved. Chicago’s O-line is going to be rookies and taped up vets, you need 5 solids, not just a center.

There's a lot of close calls

But why is Ryan Cook on this mix tape? I’ll take Loadholt’s unproven potential over Cook’s 3-4 false starts. I love it when a Lobo makes the roster, but he’s not even gonna be a starter.

I’m not suggesting Loadholt be considered one of the top 4 tackles in the north, but Pace and Cook? Clifton and Bakus are better calls. The Rams let Pace go, the Rams. He’s been hurt more than he’s played as of late.

Ej all the way

Brian Urlacher was an amazing MLB but he’s washed up now EJ Henderson is the best MLB in the NFC North and this year he’ll prove it.

by Purplehurc on Jul 12, 2009 12:10 PM CDT reply actions

We'll see

Urlacher is one year removed from his surgery, and it’s said that he’s having his best offseason in a long time. I wouldn’t exactly write him off just yet. Remember, EJ makes a ton of his plays off of the two behemoths in the middle. The Bears interior play will be improved this year with added depth and Hot Rod’s arrival.

Some things

Sorry but there is no way Woodson doesn’t start over Winfield or Vasher. He should even be ahead of Harris. I would say the order goes Woodson, Winfield, Harris. Drop Vasher.

Williams is the SS not FS and I would put him ahead of Bigby.

I think Driver has to be ahead of Berrian also. Driver has put up something like 6 or 7 consecutive 1,000 yard seasons.

by packallday555 on Jul 12, 2009 3:01 PM CDT reply actions

I didn't

Post the reasons for the things I said above for some of the players, so I will do it here. I say Woodson should be #1 because he tied for the most picks in the league, and returned some punts also (which is something us Packers fans hate).

I think Madieu should be #1 because from the games I’ve watched from him he is a good all around player. He is good in coverage and come up and put a big hit on a rb. Bigby can put a big hit on a rb but he isn’t very good in coverage.

Woodson/Winfield

Are hard to compare. They play different roles for their team. Winfield provides the best CB run support hands down, but is not really a cover guy. I’ll give you Woodson on top just because shut down corners are hard to come by.

It’s kinda funny to talk about Driver’s past, does that matter this year? With that logic, I guess Favre is QB1. Driver is still a good WR, but he’s helped out by his supporting cast. If you compare what those 2 bring to the table for their teams, Berrian brings a lot more. Kinda like the Woodson/Winfield argument.

by newmexvike on Jul 12, 2009 7:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe

My point is DD has been very productive each year. Like Woodson/Winfield, Driver/Berrian are different wr’s. Driver is our slot go, and our go-to-guy on 3rd down. Berrian is more of a “home run” type of wr. Good point about Favre being the #1 QB. My logic was flawed when comparing the wr’s. Though I still feel DD is just as good as Berrian is.

At this point in their careers

I’d have BB ahead of DD based on present, but for their careers definitely DD.

Winfield

is a cover guy—he just covers a corner of the field instead of a receiver streaking down the sidelines. QB’s still don’t throw into his area—the flat to the 10-yard out—but will throw past him to where the safety has responsibility in the cover-2 that the Vikes play.

by virginia viking on Jul 15, 2009 2:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Ryan Cook is the all conference back up? Even as a Viking fan, I don’t know that I can agree with that sentiment. Especially since its generally considered that his spot will be taken over by a rookie and that is seen as a good thing. He should become a good versatile back-up playing at every spot on the line.

by Josh_D on Jul 12, 2009 9:36 PM CDT reply actions

Generally agreed, but I don’t know if I’m happy with Cook as a backup, if he’s going to continue drawing as many penalties as he has been.

Cook should not even be on this list. He has proven nothing.

Minnesota Safeties on this list...

… are mixed up. Williams plays free safety; Johnson plays strong safety.

by virginia viking on Jul 13, 2009 6:53 PM CDT reply actions

A bit surprised

Having Cutler ahead Rodgers might be a bit much, since he still needs to adapt to his new team and the fact AR had better overall numbers last year. Albeit, JC had much better 4th quarter stats.

TE and COOK

No Kleinsasser?..he’s the best run-blocking tight end in the game. But i see why you didn’t chose him as he’s not much of a recieving threat.

Cook. No way. He won’t be able to move the line of scrimmage like Loadholt will.

WRs is hard to compare. We don’t know what any of Chicagos Rookie WR’s and Hester will do with Cutler at the helm. One of them might be a shoe in at the end of the season. Same goes for Rice or Harvin with Favre throwing to them. I think Rice will be a viable option for Favre if he is the QB. Great hands and he can stretch out with his long body.

I like Gennings and Driver and of course Calvin.
Liked the read though!
