Non-tiring News
The vikings team report from yahoo had this to say today:
Unhappy that contract negotiations with the Vikings broke down this spring, Antoine Winfield(notes) failed to take part in any of the team’s offseason practices. Officially, he missed the mandatory three-day minicamp so he could attend the funeral for the mother of a close friend.
So will the veteran cornerback show his unhappiness by staying away from training camp? That seems like a long shot. Winfield is heading into the final season of a six-year, $34.8 million deal and is scheduled to make $6 million in 2009.
“There is way too much time for me or Antoine to even think of anything like,” a holdout, agent Ashanti Webb said. “As of right now, that option has not been discussed at all. The thing that needs to be crystal clear is Antoine is not making any demands or threats or anything like that.”
Here's the link to the full story in addition to a complete unit-by-unit analysis of the entire team:
So at this point at least it looks both sides are playing nice. Hopefully it will be resolved before we lose him.
Speaking of players in the last year of their contract. Has anyone heard anything about Chester Taylor's contract? Hopefully the Vikings are working to keep him as well. I don't know any Viking fans who don't think highly of this guy. He's a good back and a team player. Hopefully his desire to stay with the Vikings is greater than his desire to be a feature back.
The pre-jump article also mentions Charles Gordon:
Gordon, returning from a gruesome season-ending leg injury, also could get into that battle once he is healthy. Gordon held the nickel job before getting hurt in November against the Packers. Sapp stepped in as his replacement.
I haven't heard anything on the status of Gordon. He wasn't mentioned that I know of in any news out of OTA's so if anyone has any info on him please share. Gordon was looking decent as a nickel and is still young and learning so hopefully he makes a full recovery so our secondary can be 100%.

Trade Chester Taylor?
Don’t get me wrong, I think Taylor is a great player and an asset to our team…but I’m wondering what the trade value would be for him. We have Albert Young, Ian Johnson, and Kahlil Bell as back-ups already. If Peterson can get better at pass protection and recieving this year, then maybe we should look at what we could get for Taylor through a trade.

Lets keep him
Taylor’s a great 3rd down back. I think he’s a guarantee. It seems Peterson always tries to go for the gold and sometimes it causes him not to be consistent. I think the whole thing with Winfield is that the Vikings are watching their salary cap because of how much they will spend on Favre.
i’d be okay with a trade if some of those other guys had proved themselves. but i haven’t seen anything out of any of them to make me feel okay losing taylor.
pass protection takes a while to learn for rookie running backs. most of them don’t have to do it in college and it’s not an easy thing to learn. i’m sure he’ll get better but he won’t be anywhere near taylor’s level of pass protection for a few years.
hopefully we keep him. he’s awesome as a third down back and has proved he can shoulder a full season should that be necessary. plus he seems like an all around good guy to have on the team. his only knock is his age but he hasn’t started much so he has seen near the wear and tear of most backs his age.

I have seen a few folks mention the Winfield deal might hinge on the Favre deal...
any ideas about that?
Side note: He’d look great in a Bears uniform :)
LSU Tigers Baseball... NCAA National Champions- 2009.
that’s my theory. the end of the cba is invoking a whole bunch of new rules that don’t normally apply and the vikings don’t have enought to sign everyone.
just one more reason it’s a bad deal.
as for your side note, i’m going to pretend i didn’t read that.

Oh God No
I’d hate to have to face Winfield two times a year as an opponent…we wouldn’t be able to do any sweep runs to that side of the field haha

The obligitory Favre mentions made their way in here…
It’s a non-tiring news post, but the tiresome (tireless) gunslinger made it in!
hehe…
GO VIKES!!
I believe the 'push off' cost us 'our' SuperBowl...
I believe you 'go for the win'... instead of 'taking a knee'...
