Judge to rule on Williams Wall
It looks like an end is in sight. Glad it will be over with. Here's the quote, and the link to follow:
A judge says he'll rule by Aug. 7 whether to put on hold a lawsuit by Minnesota Vikings Kevin Williams and Pat Williams, who are fighting their pending suspensions for violating the NFL's anti-doping policy.
The AP Article is a lot longer and has more info, but that's the gist of it.
Of course, that doesn't mean this will be the end. But at least one judge will be ruling. The ball is rolling anyway.

I hope it happens quickly
We need to know the outcome of this situation ASAP. If they are going to miss 4 games, the first 4 are by far the best to have them sit out. I’d hate to see it linger only to have them miss games in November.
It's been inevitable for awhile
No matter what really happened, right or wrong, hate to say the suspensions are going to happen. Might as well get it out of the way now at the start of the season then towards the end of the season if there is a possiblity of a playoff berth to fight for.

This is a witch hunt!
These are D linemen with weight clauses. Pretty hard to see a steroid body in Phat Pat. He was dropping water weight, not taking illegal narcotics or drugs.
Look at each case individually. In the Starcaps saga these players should have had their merits as model citizens/players established and in the case of Pat and Kevin, warn them, probationary tests and let them go on.
They didn’t kill a man and get out of jail in 2 weeks. They just wanted to pee off weight.
True
The Commish has to have bigger problems right now. Vick, Stallworth, and Burress, oh my!

Not Before Hell Freezes Over
You think it’s nearly over? Hasn’t Favre convinced anyone yet how silly that idea is?
Where that aforementioned court case ends is only where the next one begins. Until the Supreme Court rules something, it isn’t over. It’s like the playoffs, where McNabb is actually right, and the game won’t end until someone actually wins.
Constitution of the United States of America is the supreme law of the land, and Amendment X of it states only these words:
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
Translation: If the Constitution does not assign the power in any area of law to the federal government or forbid it to the states, the states have the power to pass laws in that area.
We are not merely talking about the rights of any guys named Williams. We’re talking about the power of the duly elected government of Minnesota (or any other state) to have sovereignty within its borders and enforce its laws as is guaranteed by the above.
Defensive tackles are not goods and services, they are citizens, and the states have the right to protect their citizens.
As T. O. might say, bring your popcorn to the Supreme Court. There’s gonna be some fireworks.
While you're right.......
About the government not being able to pass certian laws according to the Constitution, including items such as free speech. That allows whoever to say what they want to about the Government without reprocussions.
Thats just it, Government. If I went into work tomorrow morning and told my boss he was a “F’in Idiot”, I am fired. Not because it’s Government, but a private entity. The NFL is a private entity. This board is a private entity, and as some have found out, there are actions and reactions to things that are said. So, while you are right to point out that the Government does not have the right in this case, you are going to find that the State Supreme Court is going to decide that they cannot block what is written into the by-laws of a private entity, NFL, that the players signed contracts within and are employed within. Yes, it might go to the Supreme Court which I would say there is a 75% chance they will decline to hear. If heard, they will look at that and decide accordingly as well.
As I said above, right or wrong, no matter which side you agree with, the suspensions are going to happen as the Government will more then likely rule they have no juristiction over a private entity therefore enforcing the suspensions the NFL has wanted. I’d rather get this over now then the end of the season if there is a playoff run at stake with two large gaping holes to fill.

Other Leagues
I read that other leagues (baseball, basketball, and the Olympic committee) have a huge interest in this and are assisting the NFL in trying to get the Williams’ busted. They don’t want the Wall to escape, lest it become a viable precedent and ruin their own witch-hunts.
Personally, I think it’s cool if they want to have one standard for every sports league in the country, it makes a certain amount of sense. One standard, one overseeing committee that doesn’t act in a dark room behind closed doors playing arbitrary games, the way the NFL seems to conduct it’s policy. But do it after the fact, don’t bust the Wall ex post facto.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!
+1
that makes perfect sense. the nfl shouldn’t be able to be the crime lab, arbitrator, judge, jury, and executioner all at the same time. let these guys appeal to someone who doesn’t work for the guy issuing the punishment so they can have an unbiased hearing.
