Coaching future

What does the team need to do for the coach to keep his job?

Star-divide

Does he need to win the division?  Does he need to at least win a playoff game?  Does he need to win the NFC Championship?

I don't know if the powers that be even know the answer but I think they'll need to see something much better for Childress to keep his job.  My guess is that he'll at least have to sin a playoff game to keep his job.

I think that as long as the team makes the playoffs, Chilly keeps his job. What I WANT, however, is that unless he wins a playoff game this year, he gets the boot.

"The latest Brett Favre summer saga apparently has come to an end. The 39-year-old reportedly informed the Vikings on Tuesday that he will not come out of retirement for a 19th season."

The greatest news I've heard all year!

I think he needs to produce more than just a playoff game.

If we don’t WIN a playoff game, I want a new coach.

Normally I would not expect so much out of a coach, but with a team like this he has no excuse.

Not to mention the fact that there will be probably 3-4 excellent head coaches on the market next year.

Well I agree with this too in a way….if we don’t win a playoff game, I too want a new head coach…but I don’t think they’ll fire him if he gets the team to the playoffs two years in a row

NFC Championship

I think the Vikes need to get that far, at least, to justify the refusal to go after Pennington, Cutler, Cassel, or Garcia. Chilly has a lot of faith in T-Jack and Rosey, and I think he was expecting to get Favre. Well, now he’s down to what we have, and he’d better be right.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!

At least 1 playoff win

Anything less than that and it will be a disappointing season considering all the talent we have (even without favre)

I agree that the Vikings should win a playoff game this year, but Childress job won’t depend on that. If the Vikings make the playoffs, he will still be the coach. Only one coach has ever made the playoffs in consecutive years and got fired and that was Chan Gailey for the Cowboys. I don’t think it needs to be explained why that situation is different, but I will give you a hint: it rhymes with “Harry Moans”
