Flying Sasser
Let me start this post by stating that JimmyK is one of my favorite players in the National Football League. He is one of the hardest workers in the NFL. He knows his roll on the team, and has never once complained about a lack of playing time or touches. He is one of the best blockers in the NFL, lineman or not. He is not very fast or extremely athletic by any means, but he is the definition of a workhorse. Show me 53 guys just like him and I'll show you a Superbowl winning team.
I am very happy that the Vikings resigned him.
I am not very happy with how the Vikings use him in the offense.
Why is he not a fullback? He can catch. He can run the ball. He can block any player who might be so unfortunate to get in his way. Imagine him blocking for AD all game?
3rd and 3. Who do you want on the field... Jimmy K or Tahi/ any other FB on the roster?
This is how I look at it. Move JimmyK to FB. Release Tahi and Broughten and whoever else is competing for the spot. This will move Mills to the 2 TE position, allowing us to actually see what he can bring to the table. This will put Kleinsasser on the field more. This will also clear up a roster spot or two, allowing us to keep Booty and another DT for the chance that the Williams wall is out for 4 games. It is seriously a win win win win situation. I just can't see why the coaching staff hasn't figured that out yet. Any ideas?

I remember him getting touches.
I liked it. He’s great as another tackle on the line or could be a short yardage fullback. I’m not sure how fast he is anymore; I’m sure Tahi is probably a wee bit faster, though not much. Jimmy K. is getting older. This makes me sad. I still have his jersey.

i wouldn’t make him the permanent fb but i think they should use him in that role more often.
i love when teams line up and basically tell the defense what they’re going to do and dare them to stop it!

Yes and no
Yes we need to see him more at FB
No not all the time
We should use JimmyK at the H-back position where he lines up at FB on some plays and at TE on others. As I stated on an other post; use Dugan and JimmyK at H-back, get rid of the FBs, use the extra roster spot on one the WRs trying to make the team and activate Mills to see what he has to offer. Using one roster spot on a DT is a good idea as well.
+1
I like the idea of having Dugan and Kleinsasser in the H-Back role… Is Dugan still on the team?? I don’t even remember seeing much of him… Anyway, Shanko is a great pass-catcher and should become a better blocking TE, as he’s a monster, but I like the idea of having Mills backing up Shanko and having Sasser, Dugan and (ugh) Tahi fighting for 2 spots in Camp.
Zoxide made a good point about the single-back formation. AP seems to run better without a lead blocker, and with the talent we have in the “hands” department with Berrian, Harvin, Shank, Rice and Wade, I expect to see more single-back sets and hopefully a LOT MORE PLAY ACTION!!! Now that we (hopefully) have a QB we can trust to turn his back to the line of scrimmage, we need to take advantage of that…
I feel sorry for opposing defences this year… Well, maybe I won’t go that far, but I’m psyched for my 110 inch HD Theater in my Man Cave!!!
Jimmy is the man, through and through.
I miss the days back when he was getting 2-3 touches a game, he has better hands than people realize.
But, I don’t know if he has the agility to be a solid fullback for AP. AP cuts too often, and needs to almost have a halfback as a blocker to account for his multiple direction changes.
Either that, or AP needs to learn to be more patient.
+1
Agreed, if they’re really looking to help AP, it’ll take someone on both sides of the line because you never know where AP is going to bounce out to when he runs into a log-jam. Jimmy K can only be in once place at a time, lol. Maybe line up with Kleinsasser on one side, and Dugan on the other. With Loadholdt anchoring the right side now, it’s time to see if the Vikings can do some serious road-grading.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!
No way, Jose. Who would block at tight end like Jimmy does if we moved him to the backfield? To me, it’s like going into the Loki formation just so I could get to see Favre at wideout.
Why would I want to take the best blocking tight end in the NFL and move him where it’s harder for him to take out two guys with one block, as I see him doing to spring AD on some of his longer runs?
I’d love seeing #40 catch more passes, but why make him run another three extra yards at this point in his career just to get open for that?
The rumor that I hear is Broughton can actually catch a three yard-screen and not even fall down, although he hasn’t been used that way much as a pro. I’d check that out before I’d vote to move Kleinsasser to some position AD says he’s not too excited about.
holy shit
he caught the pass and didn’t fall down?!?!?!?!
super bowl here we come
sugar + water + purple
Make him multi-purpose
I would like to see him used in the pass-game a little more, Jimmy has soft-hands. He’s not great for YAC, but we can still use him on some 3rd & shorts. As long as he’s passed the 1st-Down marker, who cares about YAC.
The Vikings have several athletes that can play multi-positions. Chilly’s High School playbook won’t lead us to the promise land unless we start moving some of these guys around. If we don’t change the game plan every week, than we can expect the same outcome every week.
Go Vikes!
