Madden and the Vikings

Last night I played in a 32-person tournament hosted by Wal-Mart with the Vikings. Doing this is not exactly giving one the greatest chance to win.

I basically chose to play in this tournament because I wanted a sneak preview of how good the Vikings would be in the game. 80 overall.

Really rough stuff at QB and the right side of the line. Secondary ratings are pretty bland too. But because of Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin (I may not care for him in real life but he's quite important on the video game) T-Jack (Yes, you read that right) and the defense.

I was able to secure myself a free copy of the game.

Star-divide

True to Viking form I lost in the Super Bowl to the Patriots. But I was playing on a 360 and I normally have a PS3 and the guy I lost too had a modded Xbox and had been playing since Sunday.

Some highlights-

Round One: Longwell misses three field goals but defense helps me hang on to a 10-7 win over the Giants. I played like garbage in this game. AP could never get going.

Round Two: Beat the Bengals 59-0 in four minute quarters. Not sure why the dude picked them but he compounded it by trying to run with Carson Palmer and throw cross body. I had eight takeaways and 10 sacks. T-Jack had 6 total tds. Five throwing and one running.

Round Three: Adrian coughs up the ball with 2:32 on the clock in the fourth quarter against the Oakland Raiders. I was down 10-7 and in FG range. Stupidly the guy playing as JaMarcus throws right at Winfield for an INT. I drive using a lot of Shiancoe and Tahi for a field goal. In OT I got the ball and Adrian took over taking me down to the 15 for the game winning field goal. 13-10.

Round Four: The kid I faced in the semi-finals had also played as the Vikings. He chose to switch to the Eagles for some reason. In the first three quarters I shut down McNabb and he can't stop Berrian, Harvin, Shiancoe and Tahi. Jackson is throwing it anywhere he wants too. I build a 10 point lead with a minute left he scores a garbage touchdown with no time remaining. 31-28.

Round Five: Lost to the Patriots 34-13. Never really had a chance. Peterson coughed it up early. Couldn't pass. Forced to switch out of my usual style of ball control offense.

I earned one copy of the game and a $25 gift certificate. I also spent roughly nine hours at a Wal-Mart. So there's that...

Anyways, if any one wants to play on PS3 feel free to add mjschaefer. I should be up and online in a matter of days.

Lincoln, Nebraska. 230,000. I would say that the other side of the bracket had a little higher quality players. I kind of lucked out in a few cases, like the best guy in the tournament quitting to go play at another Wal-Mart where you can win a console and a game. The annoying thing is how many people had to play as the Patriots or the Eagles.

Yep

I hate that as well. I have been playing online since last night, and everyone I’ve played is the Patriots, Eagles, or Steelers. Haha but I’ve stayed true to the Pack, and am 4-0! Haha

Boo to the pack, all hail the glorious Vikings!!! Tonight…we dine in hell! I was seriously considering going to the Colts/Vikes game tonight…don’t get off till 5 though and it’s about a two hour drive or better from Lexington.

So is the game worth picking up?

I’m thinking about going to pick it up during my lunch break today. Would you recommend it?

It’s the best looking football game ever. Gameplay is great. Running with AP feels great. The ratings for the most part seem accurate if you put away your bias beliefs. Defense is both hard and rewarding.

Hit the mall for lunch today

Just because it would put me near a GameStop. Now I just need to kill the next few hours.

Haha just played with the Vikes

Gotta admit I was curious to play with them and see what they are like. If you like running the ball then your set, I rushed like 14 times for 200 yards with Peterson. But only passed for like 10 yards with Jackson (he is unbelieveably inaccurate in the game), and I eventually brought Sage in, and did better with him. Their defense is good, and Cedric “no hands” Griffin had a INT for me. Just thought I’d share haha.

Do you know if you’re able to edit the ratings of existing players?

by Loki The Viking God on Aug 14, 2009 2:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Hey hey now, Griffin doesn’t have horrible hands, he just doesn’t put himself in position to catch the ball very often.

I would like to present this play as evidence, but it does show the cushion he gives receivers:

Well i just read on capital j’s corner a report about august 12th’s training camp day. It said before practice started, jackson was throwing passes to griffin and griffin dropped two in a row that hit him in the chest

OMG

harvin is unstoppable out of the slot, but running can be tough sometimes but it’s awesome when you break that long one

Just had a game with Harvin getting 2 td’s…one for 50 yds and one for 60 yds

by Loki The Viking God on Aug 14, 2009 9:07 PM CDT reply actions

i returned

a kickoff for 98 yards and a punt for 78 yards with harvin last night….i’m lovin this game

by vikesfan4lyf on Aug 15, 2009 9:20 AM CDT reply actions

I'm the opposite

It seems to me so far if you have a good returner it’s pretty easy to get some good yards on returns. I was playing with the Texans, and got out to the 35-50 on all 3 of my returns.

by packallday555 on Aug 16, 2009 1:44 AM CDT up reply actions

HAHA

After not being able to get a kickoff return with Harvin for many games, during a game last night I had two kick off returns for TD’s with Harvin and a short field goal returned for a TD by Harvin.
