Vikings Preseason Rebroadcast Reminder
Can someone post again the times that NFL Network will rebroadcast the last 3 preseason games? Thanks!
(To fill the rest of the required 75 words, I will just say that if Brett Favre leads the team to 1 win in the playoffs, I approve of the move. If not, then it was a bust - TJ, with all his inconsistency, led us to a division title and a playoff berth.
Do you all agree with me?)

Actually Old Gus saved the season
T.Jack teased us with the great Cardinal game and then fell apart against the Eagles
Actually, it was Chilly that fell apart against the Eagles.
Tjack was fine until the Eagles switched up the blitz packages and Chilly never adjusted. The fact that he doesn’t allow audibles or formation changes at the line means that Tjack could not bring any extra blockers back.
ANY QB will have a bad game when they have <2 seconds to throw the ball.
I watched T-Jack closely in last week’s game, and the only times he did alright was in handing the ball off right away. When he tried to pass, he dropped back and as the pocket formed, instead of stepping forward into it, he kept back behind it. The Colts rush came in along the pocket and were literally channeled straight into T-Jack. I watched this happen again and again, and thought, why doesn’t he step up into the pocket where he’d have a few more seconds of coverage?!
My guess is that he’s not comfortable in there… maybe the lines are too tall and it obstructs his vision, maybe he feels claustraphobic, I don’t know, but he doesn’t want to go in there AND hold onto the ball. He seems to want to stay in the back and keep his running options wide open. Which doesn’t work well against a blitz where the D is flying in along the outside of the pocket at full speed.
Taking it a step further, the Vikings watch the film too and surely they can see what’s going on; why can’t the O-line adjust for it? Maybe a wider pocket, or step back further to surround T-Jack? I don’t know, but it seems like they should be able to compensate at least somewhat, and give T-Jack 3 or 5 more seconds.

You mean the second team offense?
The one with less talent that he is not completely used to? I would be taking a step back and keeping an eye on the pass rush angles as well.

There needs to be adjustments on both sides.
Tjack is a natural scrambler, and it makes sense that he want’s to keep that safety valve open in case he can’t find the open receiver. I think his issue that game was that he was more worried about his roll-out options than finding the open man.
Couple that with a left knee that is still healing, causing overthrows because he isn’t following through completely, and you have a recipe for disaster.
One of the major knocks I have on Chilly is that he is too rigid in his coaching. He expects the player to adjust to him, and not vice versa. Sometimes you need to adjust the way you run your offense to take advantage of a players natural talents.
See: Peterson, Adrian. A guy that dangerous in the open field should get the ball in the open field more often. But no, we just run the ball between the tackles over and over.
Yeah, I had a Drill Instructor like that for a while… he’d bark out orders and we had no freaking idea what the hell he was saying. “FLRRT, Hrtt HRRT! HRT HRRT! HRTTTTT!”. He formed us up in a unit, started us off marching, and it looked like we understood, but was only because we understood the basic process and did what we knew needed to happen as long as there were no other choices… the first time we came a T-intersection and the DI said, “HRTTT…. HRT!”, 2 ranks peeled off to the right, two went left, and the 2 in the center went meandering off in a wobbly confused fashion straight out into the field, lolol. I think he almost had a heart attack on the spot, sure that we were deliberately screwing with him! When we told him we couldn’t understand what he was saying, he said that was too bad, figure it out, because it was our job to adapt to him, not his job to adapt to us. Fortunately our relationship with him was very short.
Remember that Hershel Walker guy? Set aside the trade issue… what salted the wound was that the Vikings refused to use him the way he should have been used. Walker was a power-runner, the Vikings tried to make him a Foreman-type versatile back, and then they hardly used him at all. Man but I was angry with the Purple back then….

Really?
Everyone needs to stop defending TJack. He has been given plenty of opportunity to win the job on his own. The fact of the matter is he is extremely weak at “read and react”. Unless he walks to the line and sees a defense he expects to see he is extremely lost. The man just isn’t a walking playbook like the top 10 or 15 QBs in the league who really succeed (the Mannings, Brady, Rothlisbeger and so on).
Now I am no big Chilly fan however I don’t believe it was his fault. In fact, the Eagle game as you mention may be one of the reasons Birk is gone. It is Birks responsibility to call the offensive line adjustments and Mr Harvard failed.
I would have to agree about Gus he deserves more credit for his contribution
It was gus that stayed in the pocket and took the beatings made the throws needed to win.He was more consitant then T Jack… I will always enjoy the bomb he threw to Berrian right after our defense held the bears on the one yard line. you dont see five plays like that unfold into a touchdown.. its like a lottery ticket winner the odds of that happening again hmmmm?///

Exactly
Quick read and quick release make the difference. Gus was far better with the same team around him than TJack.
12 tds, 15 ints. where’s gus now? who’s he playing for?

+1 to all the othert comments
TJack did NOT lead us to the title & a playoff berth. That’s not even close to being true.
But I do agree with your general sentiment: anything less than 1 playoff win will be a disappointment. Heck, it WAS a disappointment last year.

Is anyone else a little disappointed that the NFL Network is showing “Making the Team” instead of a LIVE broadcast of the game? Are you kidding me after everything that has happened this week??

HD Days have Arrived!
I thought I was going to be out in the cold this week but my HD TV just got here! Yeah, I’m one of those Luddite hold-outs, didn’t see much point in it til Comcast made the NFL channel into HD-only.
Hopefully, I’ll be watching the Vikes tonight, no matter how late the game airs :)))
