Interesting quote about Jay Cutler...

I'm not bagging on the guy - in fact, I kinda liked that he did this. I just wonder how Bears' fans perceive it, as well as everyone else around here. Via the NFC North Blog:

During Jay Cutler's first week of practice as the Bears' new quarterback, a rookie wide receiver dared to shag a few of his passes with just one hand. And even though this rookie, third-round pick Juaquin Iglesias, had been lectured a few times by coaches about the importance of proper technique, he was slow to break his annoying little habit. So when it happened again one afternoon, Cutler followed his pass upfield, darted toward Iglesias and screamed into his face mask: "If you ever do that again I will never throw another f--ing pass to you. EVER!"

I suppose during your first week, it's best to establish your domain. To quote Office Space:

He said the trick is: kick someone's ass the first day, or become somebody's bitch. Then everything will be alright.

I guess Cutler went for the, "kick someone's ass" approach. Like I said, I kinda like it, though it does perpetuate the idea that he's kindof a dick. Okay, maybe a major dick. But I've never met the guy, and I'm obviously biased (though I still wouldn't mind him in purple).

Just thought I'd throw this out there. It's not about...well...you know who.

If you’re a rookie receiver, you should be out there making sure plays, doing everything you can to get yourself on the field. If you’re going to run around and try to showboat, veterans should step up and straighten them out. While Cutler isn’t an old Bear, he has a few years in the league.

This crap bag media story falls into the same catagory as ‘schismgate’. It is almost as if ACTUAL REPORTING has become too hard. I want to hear more about any of the following: How is the Pack D going to be? Can the Bears overcome a lack of firepower to score enough to win some more games? Can the old man in Purple win the big one and fade into the sunset? Can the Lions..um..win A game? All of those stories would require some actual reporting and investigation. Game tapes…practice tapes…stats… ESPN has decided to do the opposite. They throw shit at walls, yell at it, and eventually it begins to eminate an odor so befouled from the truth that it is apparently front page worthy. This is just lazy, borderline slanderous journalism. I can’t stand it.

The Favre controversy is going to tear apart the Packers and Vikings. Chicago is going to get caught up in the storm and tossed aside like a ragdoll, leaving the Lions to win the division! ARMAGEDDON IS HERE!

Except everybody knows that even if the Lions were the only team left in the division they would still finish last.

I for one am ok with it.

He needs to take control of the team, or at least the offense. A third round rookie showing off instead of trying to improve needs to have his ass put in check immediately, and that’s what he did. It doesn’t help Iglesias’s case that he has shown absolutely nothing throughout camp/preseason so far.
