Minnesota @ Houston - What are you looking for?
We all know we'll be drooling on the TV to see whether Favre looks good or bad (no matter which camp you're in), and to a lesser degree, we'll be especially interested to see what our other 3 QBs look like. Sage will be of particular interest, since he'll be going up against his former team.
But what else will you be looking for during Monday's game?
There's still a lot of questions up in the air!
What's going on with our WR corps? I want to see a lot more of Jaymar, Darius, and most especially, Percy Harvin. It would be nice to see if Berrian really does have the speed to stretch the field, too. It's all well and good having a great QB, but the Vikings were looking for a top WR in the draft for a reason; Berrian may be fast, but last year he rarely stretched the field and AP still dealt with 8-9 in the box and T-Jack was constantly freaking blitzed. The only thing changes that equation is a pair of speedy wide outs that force the secondaries to back off. Will Berrian show the speed he's supposed to be able to bring? How fast is Percy, really? I don't care about numbers, I want to see action.
Speaking of secondaries, I want to see more of ours in action. I want to feel comfortable with the loss of Sharper and I'm starting to get there. Yes, I know Sharper had lost more than a step last year, but when he was able to make up for it with experience, he could still body-slam with the best of them. I want to see more of Asher Allen, and Griffin, and Tyrell Johnson. I'm hoping they get better at reading the plays and getting out in front of the ball instead of letting it get caught and just tackling.
The poll's going to list some of the question-mark players other than the QBs, who're you going to be watching for the most, to see how they're doing?
(by the way, it's a tough choice, I'm going to be watching all those guys, the Mighty Purple has a wealth of great potential this year!)

Well..
im exited to see how much Favre has improved with his wide outs..but im also ready to see what else Harvin can do
i wan to
to see many htings that u said
especially i wan tot see if berrian can play and wrok well with favre
also i want to see special teams do well again to prove the first two games werent a fluke
i think Tyrell Johnson doing well is most important though we need him to sure up our defense as that is the only question mark
Special Teams hasn't been that good.
I believe they already have 5? penalties against them.
At least they haven’t been fumbling and scoring TD’s on themselves though!…lol
Go Vikes!
Offense
I think the offense is going to look amazing. IMHO the biggest problem with the offense last year, was the lack of a credible qb. If you get a guy like favre under center, who can make quick reads and accurate throws, a guy that can audible away from the defense, you take away the defenses ability to stack 8 or 9 guys in the box. This will make the receivers look better and this will make the line play look a lot better. I would like to see a lot of plays out of the pro set, so the vikings can have most of their play makers on the field at the same time. This will make the defense play honest and we very well could see a 2000 yd year out of AP if they manage to disguise the run plays even a little.
I think offense will look “amazing” in about a month maybe, but in in first real live game experience that the starting QB has had with the rest of the unit, < 2 weeks after signing. I expect flashes or brilliance, mixed with a couple murky broken plays of confusion.
In a word, inconsistency.
Offensive line is critical
This will be the 1st real test of Loadholt. If he does well then I go back to my previous thought that we can do without Tahi and Broughton as Sasser & Dugan can do both TE & FB. Keep 4 QB’s and 4 RB’s!!!!!!!!!
Percy
It would be really nice to see what Percy Harvin can do also I wanna see that offensive line cause I’m worried about it.
"If at first you don't succeed - Skydiving isn't for you"
Loadholt
How he holds up could dictate our season in part because if he can hold his own then we can open up the Offense and put fear into opposing D’s bigtime. I am also interested in how Tyrell Johnson is doing. I believe he has the potential to be a perenial Probowler and if he can take that next step there will be no stopping our mighty Vikings this year and years to come. I have been pulling for Jarmar ever since we drafted him, and I look forward to what he will bring us in the future with futher development. Right now, I see him in a Kelly Campbell role the Vikes had when Moss/CC/Reed were dismantling Defenses.
of course #4 and Harvin
also the guys on the bubble…last year Radovich looked good before injury….there is a good looking young center from OU…JJ and DR, which guy will be here…only one imo. Sanford and Brinkley…we hear good things about…how many TE/FB’s do we keep this year.
Brinkley
Oh yeah, he was a monster last week, very impressive!

From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.

To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!

O'Sullivan
has some big shoes to fill. It’s crucial that he has his shit together, as he’ll be making line calls and blocking assignments. A good center goes a long way. That said, one of the best things Favre brings to the table is his pre-snap read. I don’t know how many line calls he’ll make, but if he doesn’t, we’ll be relying on O’Sullivan to get it done.

Center
I’m hoping that what we’re seeing from Sullivan so far is going to just get better. He seems competent but the O-line is accustomed to excellence in that position.

Sullivan, not O'Sullivan--
I think I made him too Irish in my mind.

Favre is probably the best QB for Sulliven to learn from.
It’s a hell of a lot better than Jackson breaking him in the hard-way…lol
yeah just realized that
Sullivan was not even a poll option. It should be. Changing centers is always a time of concern.
My biggest concern
and thing that I will “want” to see, I won’t be able too. Its that thing that will have the biggest impact on how strong our offense can perform. We only get 60 minutes…
Play-calling
yes, we have loads of talent on offense. 2 great running backs, Berrian on the outside, a soild vet in Wade, and LOTS of promise with Rice/Harvin. We got a proven Quarterback. Is this going to be more of the Adrian Peterson show?…or are we going to see more of a 50/50 success with our passing and running. Personally, I think we should start games off aggressively, taking chances and get an early lead. Our defense is going to be great. IMO we have 5 sure pro-bowlers on defense. Pat, Kevin, Jared, Antoine, E.J. Yes folks, almost 50% of our defense is pro-bowl material. We get ahead then turnovers and 3&outs will be raining everywhere. THATS when you give it to A.P./Taylor.
Man i’m getting goose bumps.
SKOL
Sorry, IMO play calling will still look cautious in this game. there simply has not been enough time with Favre to work on the more exotic plays.
Well, at least that;s what I would have been doing the last two weeks if I were coach. Spending almost all the time making sure the basic plays were clicking, not focusing on the bi-payoff, rarely-calledm, probably complicated plays.
Time of Posession.
I would like the Vikes TOP to be more than Houston’s TOP.
Having long successful drives will help keep our defense rested and healthy.
Not just this game, but every game!
Go Vikes!
Percy Harvin
Being one of the ones who beat the drum for Percy to be drafted, I’m naturally pulling for him to do well in purple.
It's not any individual player,
I just want to see signs that the offense is functioning well as a unit. I don’t expect us to be all the way there, but I’d be happy to see a stretch (or two) of a few plays in a row where the offense operates like a smoothly functioning west coast offense can, and where their rhythm looks good.
I’d like to see Favre reading the defenses and making adjustments where necessary. I wouldn’t be surprised if we pass a bit more than we might in a regular season game, as that is what needs the most work. I expect a few mistakes; that’s fine, as long as we can see signs of the whole thing clicking.
I want to the secondary against 4 and 4 WR formations
Our secondary, beyond Winfield and Griffin, was terrible last year. Really the only weak spot in the defense. They’ve looked better the first two preseason games and I’d like to see that continue.
I would say (1) Favre, and (2) Percy
.
Although I am not worried too much about Percy. He is plenty “football fast”, which is the most important kind of fast. The kind of fast that by nature finds itself in the end zone a lot.
I am more worried about Favre, and hope he’s much more in sync this game.

I can’t say just one.
Definitely not Favre, as I already know what he brings to the table.
I would have to say that our WR crew in general is what I am most interested in seeing. IMHO we have a good group of young receivers, and having a guy who is more accurate in his passes will likely expedite their development.
If Sidney can stay healthy, and Jaymar or Darius can step up and show us their mettle, we could have a very explosive offense. Even if Favre is not with the team, I think the crew is solid and I am very excited.
Reynaud is a guy I have seen show some flashes of big play ability in the preseason, both this year and last (Even though that TD pass last year was not a TD, unless we are playing by college rules).
