Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Minnesota's quarterback quandary.

Star-divide

This year is the year of quarterback for our Beloved Purple.  Either Rosenfels or Jackson's have to prove they can lead this team, for at least another year or two.

Jackson's must show he deserves a contract extension. If he puts up even average numbers this year I can reasonably say our team will be in good shape for years to come. The same goes for Rosenfels, although he's not playing for  a contract.

I think the vikings target a young qb this offseason, whether it be in the draft or through a trade. With solid play this year from Sage or TJ we can give that player time to grow into and adjust to our offense, especially if we draft a guy. If Sage or TJ show they can't lead this team, I'd be a little worried for the future.

Because that could mean our young guys getting thrown for the hounds too soon, a lot like Bad Brad's poor play got TJ tossed to the lions.

Interesting

I pretty much agree but why did you not mention JDB

JDB

Does not have a real strong arm and can not make all throws.. That was what read abt him last yr, dont think it has increased, but guess possible

I think that if John David

Booty were going to amount more than a backup QB, he would probably be there already…. or at least close.

Pretty much agreed

One of the two needs to step up.

But, if JDB improves, they don’t have to go for Tebow.

Capital J’s training camp blog has a lot of good observations on JDB, it sounds like he’s improved from last year. We won’t know for sure til the pre-season and we get to see if he can stand up to hostile intent without pissing his pants.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!

Tebow?

I don’t see him being useful to us at all…

Fingers crossed on JDB’s progression. But, I’m in the camp that doesn’t believe he’ll ever head into a season as our designated starter. I agree with this post. This year will be the year that shows us, once and for all, what TJ has. He is no longer “a project.” That said, I remain hopeful and believe he can be a legitimate pro, a top quartile NFL starter.

I agree.

While he is a great leader and probably would make a good Tight End in a few years, I think we will end up in the same boat we are in now if we draft Tebow as a QB.

Colt McCoy, on the other hand, would be an excellent pick up. Though I doubt he will be on the boards at Pick # 32 :)

+1

I would love to see Colt on the Vikings next season! He carries himself well and his play is comparable to a Drew Brees. Best of all, it would add to the line of Viking QBs with interesting names – Tarvaris, Sage, Gus, Brooks. Like you said though, Bjorno, it’s not likely we’ll be able to draft him when we’re picking last!

I bleed PURPLE!... no, seriously, my blood doesn't react properly with oxygen which causes a purple hue

what if...

what if we pull a mike ditka & give the last place team ALL our draft picks to move up to #1? hell, we did that with hershel, lol

Just say no to Tebow!!!

he will not be starting Q.B. material in the N.F.L. He may have a role somewhere, but we need to get a Matt Ryan type or this years Sam Bradford.

+1. Tebow is a product of a system specifically designed to work for him in an environment that actually allows it to work. Tebow will go to the NFL and quickly find out what its like to be Reggie Bush – but worse.

by Hoss-Drone on Aug 8, 2009 12:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

i disagree

i tend to believe Tebow can make it in the pros. Word is he’s been working on his throwing motion and accuracy this offseason. Also to say Tebow is a product of a system is nonsense, because you can use that logic with any qb. As a matter of fact I’m pretty sure Oklahoma also runs a type of spread offense with Bradford.

Another thing to think about is how much it would take to move up for Bradford, he’s a lock for top ten, whereas Tebow may be a steal if teams don’t look at him as a qb.
