Packers and Bears "O-Lines"

I can't wait for the game on the 4th in the Dome. Seeing the Bears front seven dominate the Packers offense the way they did must have our boys seeing red. Our front seven is more talented and powerful by far than either of those two. Perhaps they'll clean things up and improve by game time but the Packers will have to throw to win and Rodgers might be spending half the game on his backside if they perform anywhere near the way they did at home against the Bears.

Aw yeah. Vikings offense may lack continuity right now but both sides of the ball they seem ready to physically manhandle teams. Could be a fun year. Already is actually.

I agree with you (mostly). There is, however, one matchup I’m very worried about. I couldn’t have been more thrilled when we got Harvin/Loadholt one/two. That had been the combo I’d been itching for in posts leading up to the draft. So, I premise my concerns with all due respect for Loadholt’s upside. Nevertheless, I think he’s going to get worked over by Ogunleye. He had a standout performance against the Whackers and I imagine he will create some havoc for us as well on the right side of the line. That said, I see us manhandling the Bears at almost every other position. My other prediction for that game: I think it’s where BB will finally emerge and light up the Bear’s secondary.

Oops…correction. I forgot, we don’t play the Bears until pretty late in the season. Let’s hope BB emerges before then.

I share your concern (if I understand them correctly) — I’m nervous our O-Line is no more up to the task of dealing with the Packer and Bear D-Lines, than their O-Lines were. Especially for pass protection (Peterson and Taylor, I think they could deal with almost anything). Sort of the flip side of what the OP was saying. I think it may cut both ways, unfortunately.

I think you may not have understood me because my post didn’t actually make much sense given the topic of this thread. I meant that my one concern is Ogunleye on the Bear’s D-Line. So, my worry isn’t really with the Bear’s O-Line, but with how Loadholt will hold up against the pressure coming from him.

And if he doesn’t have it 100% against speed rushers, which are a problem for most giant Tackles, we just put Dugan or Sasser next to him… Or Shank can get a chip on him and then release into the flats for a nice 12 yard scamper… All we really need to do is get a chip on him and Loadholt will be able to do the rest next week, let alone after he’s gotten a half a season under his belt… Maybe we put Robison over him for some more practices, that guy is pretty fast…

Yeah, tough to tell after the first game. Ogunleye looked “that good” to me. But, it does stand to reason that with all our talent at tight end, that we can secure, the edge against his speed. That said, they could always bring blitz packages that are right-side heavy to mess with our line; the only danger being, we run left with two-eight and they’ll be screwed!

Combo of both

Oguleye looked really fast off the edge, and pretty strong, but it could just because Barbre is so slow. For Barbre’s sake I hope it was that Ogunleye is just that good. MM has decided to start Barbre week 2, and he goes up against Robert Geathers who is a speed rusher, so how he performs that game could indicate how good Ogunleye is.

just a quick correction looks like it is on the Oct 5 monday night at the dome

there are plenty of schemes to run that can take care of the one on one weakness on the lines// besides the doulble team or plays away from the weak side. For the most part our o-line and d-line match up well or above average in the nfl. Bound to have a few mishaps or mismatches but believe its correctable. go vikes

Monday Night

I figure the Pack will probably sack Farve a few times and we will sack Rodgers a few times. The difference will be that they have to put the ball up more. Rodgers will have to have a really good night if they expect to win. I think he will get picked a couple of times. Our balance on offense plus the fact that they will be more one dimensional will be the difference. Vikes by 10

Another difference is,

that barring injury, Favre is not affected by being knocked down. For every sack, they’re both going to get put on the turf a couple more times. Favre will get up, tell the DL ‘nice job’ and keep going. Rodgers will start thinking about it.

That’s no knock on Rodgers; most QB’s in the NFL don’t like getting knocked down repeatedly in a game. Having watched him for years, I honestly think that Favre doesn’t care.

And I look at a lot of these new ‘hot’ QBs in the NFL and they seem more like ‘hothouse flowers’ than rough ‘n tumble football players. Guys like Big Ben and Brees and Flacco seem to be cut from the more traditional mold that doesn’t get totally rattled by a sack. But then you look at Cutler’s behavior, or Rivers, or Young… there’s even been a lot of concern about T-Jack’s “level of confidence”. And concerns about how well they play when “under pressure”. How often have you ever seen a QB who had an O-line so purely dominant that the QB was never under pressure?

Favre takes the sack, gets up and goes back to work like you said. Just part of the job.

great points by all involved.

but the fact of the matter is , a.p. is so dominate that he will be the difference maker in that game. Arron Rodgers may be good , but standing on the sidelines all night , watching a.p. , he will have few chances to change the inevitable out come. vikes by 2 touchdowns!

Sullivan

After watching him getting manhandled by the Browns because he’s not very big, I begin to better understand why our O-line seems so porous. I don’t worry as much about Load because by the end of the year I think he’ll be a right monster (very punny, eh? :) ), but Load has all the physical skills to do the job. Sullivan does not.

I’m going to keep an eye on this, but if it’s an issue of Sully being too small, well… not much he can do about that and we might be looking for a new center soon.

Wow… that was painful, listening to Favre slowly rambling on and on and on and on and …. after 3 minutes I had to call it quits, lol. Listening to him is like watching the corn grow!

I think it’s great that he has good things to say, but that link that puddn posted shows Sully getting regularly beat like a red-headed stepchild. I’ll be watching him closely this weekend.

I’m not sure now if Favre’s being generous or the other link was overly cherry-picked, as I said I’m going to watch Sully more closely. Hopefully I can get a good copy of last week’s game (the TYT copy came through flakey), or be able to see this weekend’s game live :)
