NY Times on the 'Percy Position'

How the 'Percy Position' drives the Vikings and Peterson, by Chris Brown, NY Times The Fifth Down Blog. September 18, 2009.

Sorry if this has been posted already. I took a quick look around and didn't see it. Take some time and click on all the links describing Percy's role at UF. If you only have time for one additional click, make it this one. The sweeps the Vikings have been running and in particular Percy's WR screen TD are literally exact replicas of Gators plays. the fanposts on this blog are used far less than other SB nation blogs i’ve frequented. people seem to look for the fanshots more regularly.

i want to believe that chilly and the vikings brass wouldn’t have drafted percy if they didn’t intend on drawing in some new wrinkles. from just the first two games (bringing percy in from out wide and running power sweeps and misdirections), believe it or not it looks like percy has found the right coach. also, with the whole world keying on brian westbrook, chilly kept finding new ways to get him the ball in space. even as an outsider, i know the vikings have been vanilla for several years. but in the past they never had the percy-peterson combo to play with.

Reinforces my confidence that the division winning Vikings of 08 will do much better this season! We have all the tools to go very far….now just need to execute week in and week out, make believers of other nay-sayers out there…SKOL!

Thanks for sharing this one, it was not just informative but reassuring to see that Chilly’s actually doing something right with Harvin. Yes, we have a couple games won, but there’s a long season yet ahead. It looks like it’s going to be an exciting one :)

Good stuff!

I liked the pitch/reverse to Percy in the 49rs game… even though he ran right into a blitzing LB…
Had he not been there, it looked like a lot of open field to operate in.

Another wrinkle for Defenses to consider.
