Shouldn't that be all hail Greg Lewis?
That was an incredible catch.

I'm in no position to argue...
… my idiot Fox affiliate switched to the Lions game after the Packer game, so I didn’t get to see the last drive.
I just ran frame by frame of the catch as Fox replayed it (finally). He definitely got both feet down, but I’m not sure how he was able to force his right foot to the turf when he was falling to his left. It’s like his leg grew a few inches just at the right moment. I wouldn’t have guessed that Lewis had the athleticism to pull that off. Very impressive.
The pass was better than I thought after first viewing too. But the catch was incredible.

You're a packers fan....
….so your statement about hailing Greg Lewis instead of (someone else) make sense to me. :)
It was one hell of a catch by Greg Lewis!
Yeah, sometimes it looks weird. I remember seeing the replays of the Steeler’s last TD in the Super Bowl and it didn’t look quite right, all depends on the view angle.

Packer fan here
Oops, double post.
Just wanted to say well done. Any chance you could give the old bugger a game’s rest some time (very) soon…?
Favre being Favre
Regardless what some folks say about Favre, the fact is he loves this game of football, and he loves to win. I hope the rest of the team can learn to think the same way.
This game was the biggest game so far this year. The Vikings seldom win big games.
Perhaps Favre, Peterson, Rice, Percy, Taylor, and BB can help change all of that.
To all those smart mouthed Packer fans, I say check the scoreboard “cheezehead”.
the problem is im not sure farve actually loves the game
or if he just really doesnt know what else to do with himself

You clearly haven't watched him play much
He’s running downfield throwing dangerous blocks around with his body. Those plays don’t show up on the highlight reels. If he was in this just for revenge or glory he wouldn’t be taking those chances just to protect his teammates.
Great players just can’t give up playing the game that they love to play. Brett isn’t the first or only one. Michael Jordan hinted a week ago that he still wants to play in the NBA and he’s almost 50.

Motives
A lot of people wonder about motives. They wonder about Favre’s motives, they wonder about Vick’s motives, and they make lots of speculative conjectures… but the truth is, we can never really know anyone else’s motives. It’s kind of a moot point. What we can do is judge by their actions. And by their actions, both Favre, and Vick, proved themselves to be good players and serious contenders. And in Vick’s situation, he paid the price for doing something so stupid as dog fighting, paid in full, including interest, and that’s about as much as anyone can ask for.

Let's see....
He lost millions of dollars and had to file for bankruptcy…
He spent a couple years in jail….
Oh. Not just any jail; Fort Leavenworth, a military max prison.
He lost a couple years of his prime playing career time
He has to suck up to PETA for the rest of his life
He lost the respect of millions of fans
He disappointed everyone who cared about him
If that isn’t paying in full for his crimes, I don’t know what is. All the man is asking for now is a chance to try again, a chance to do better and be better. I guess that’s just not enough for some people.

Congrats Viking fans. That is the good you get from Favre. All on edge emotionally charged games at the end of games. He still has the hall of fame arm. See ya next week.

When they got the ball back on the 20 with a little over a minute to play, my wife asked me if I thought they could pull it off. I told her this was EXACTLY why we got Favre…to win the game at the end…and he did…The End.
This was certainly a test and let's us know we have a team here!

What a amazing finish!!
I almost shut the TV off in disgust @ 1:55 left to go. I am glad I didn’t. Brett earned his paycheck today.

And they aren’t very happy with the safety that let Lewis behind him to make the catch, to say the very least. I think he might get his lawn vandalized like the guy from Buffalo.

… did the Niners throw the ball at all during their last possession? They didn’t actually run Coffee on three consecutive plays, did they?
by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Sep 27, 2009 4:06 PM CDT up reply actions
That's exactly what they did.
It made us use all 3 timeouts, so I guess I can’t second guess their play calling too much there.
by Eric J. Thompson on Sep 27, 2009 4:10 PM CDT up reply actions
I see the TO issue...
… but don’t you have to try to get the first down there? On 3rd and 6 (or whatever it was), they knew that Coffee wouldn’t get the 1st down on the ground. Not to mention that you’re defense still gets a chance to stop the Vikes regardless of whether they have the ball with 1:20 and no TOs or 1:40 with 1 TO. They get the first down and the game’s over. Calling a run on 3rd down there is playing not to lose, not playing to win. And that’s a bad call.
Not trying to take anything away from the Vikes. They might have stopped the Niners on 3rd anyway, but I hate the playcall.

He fumbled earlier too, though he managed to recover it.
I’m not ready to throw dirt on the Bears. I didn’t think they’d beat the Steelers last week, for instance. But they’ll live and die with Cutler all year. Most of their players are just ok and they need someone else to make them better than they otherwise would be.

My wife told my friends he is seriously in anxiety attack mode.
Unbelieveable!
Eat it Niners
Wow,
What a finish. We dominated those losers and deserved the win. Frank Gore would not have even made a difference had he been healthy. It just shows that the cream rises and the dirt sinks to the bottom. They did not even belong on the same field with us. A truly dominating performance by us despite the deceivingly close score. For the Vikes, Super Bowl baby! For the Niners, bottom of the west baby! Niners, your story book season is over, next week = a victory for the Rams!
A little harsh
I agree that the Vikings played better overall, but the Niners bottled up AP well (mostly due to predictable play calling IMO). That FG block made it way too close, but I sincerely doubt San Fran will finish anywhere near the bottom of the NFC West. Remember, the Rams are in that division, and no matter what Seattle and Arizona do later, San Francisco will still be in first place after today.
by Eric J. Thompson on Sep 27, 2009 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions
Probably right Eric
But, I predict an 8 game losing streak for the Niners just like in 2007 when they started 2-0. They probably will finish just ahead of the Rams in the division after splitting the 2 games with them. They are really a very average team with not ONE player that could start for us, not even the vastly overrated Patrick Willis, Frank Gore (Mr. Injury) or Vernon Davis. Mark my words, Singletary will be fired by the end of the season. Purple forever!

Dont you dare call
any part of that defense just “average” let alone the undisputed best middle linebacker in the NFC. Give them respect, Singletary WILL bring these guys to the playoffs, that was an excellently coached football team we just narrowly squeaked by

Maybe, maybe not
Just watch the Niners flame out from this point on. Playoffs, I don’t think so. As for Mr. Willis, the man is constantly out of position, only his speed saves him and that will diminish in time. I don’t see anything special in their defense, they just caught Peterson with a sore back on an off day. Let’s review this in a couple of weeks.

Still giddy the day after
Like a kid on Christmas morning, I’m freakin giddy today. I don’t know if any of you saw the post game press conference with BF on NFL Network, but he was the usual humble and class act, giving credit where it was due and admitting his own mistakes. And he gave lots of credit to the niners based on what he saw of this team last year when the Jets played them. And for those of you 40+, you gotta respect his athletic ability and pure toughness. I know what I feel like just from hitting the weights at the gym. Can’t imagine getting hit by 300lb dump trucks that many times in a game.
"Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." Theodore Roosevelt
Baptism by Fire
After that pass to Lewis and Favre was nailed to the ground, the camera showed Favre just laying on the ground on his stomach, trying to see if the pass was caught, and then suddenly you could see big purple-clad hands seize him at the back and shoulders and haul him up to his feet so that he could see….
This week, he earned his horns and, I think, really, fully, became part of the team.

Glorious, but work to be done.
The defense’s 3 and out, the catch, the line giving him some time on the drive, all of it goes down the drain without the final piece of the puzzle, Bret Favre. WOW.
Sorry 49’s, you played hard, showed class and your gonna win the division,GL.
The receiving corp/TE’s should turn in their paycheques this week. They were TERRIBLE. BB should benched for the first quarter against GB next week and if he pulls another effort like that cut him.
Kliensucker I’m done with, years of mediocrity, cut him or at least get someone else in there.
We aren’t there yet, the blocked field goal, sporatic line play on both sides, more timing work between Favre and the recievers.
Maybe the biggest improvement was in Favre’s ability to burn the blitz in the first half. This gonna make the opposing teams sit up and take notice, the first step in getting more room for AP.
I’m betting AP wasn’t 100%, he did better in the first half than the second, that ain’t a Healthy AP
Still, a great game and there was signs of improvement.
8 days we gotta wait!!! Dag nab it!!!
disagree on Kleinsasser
Kleinsasser has sprung AP and Chester on NUMEROUS big-play TD-runs over the past 4 years. He doesn’t call the plays or make the decision to run a silly pass route instead of block.
If I had to choos between Kleinsasser and Tahi or Dugan — for this team — I think it a is no-brainer.

Agreed.
Jimmy K. used to be more of a pass catcher, but now he’s turned into basically another tackle who can sneak out and make a catch every now and then. He’s never been just mediocre; I wager he’s one of the best blocking TEs in the league.
Don’t forget – he broke his hand. That can’t be completely healed yet.
I’m sure Peterson was pretty close to 100%, but he’s bound to have “down” days. Our RBs down day was still 85 yards – not too bad.
I do agree that Berrian needs to step it up. I joked about cutting him in the gameday thread, but he’s being paid too much to drop those passed. Come on, man, step it up!

Woot Woot!
I won't do it today
I won’t trash Favre today but I still think if he had a better game the Vikes wouldn’t be in that position in the first place (delays, missing receivers, throwing 7 yard bullets). But I won’t trash him…Not because of his throw at the end but because of his block and his reaction after the final TD. Pretty sure he was holding back tears. SKIPPING training camp made me (and any rational person) question his desire. But after seeing that it’s apparent he wants to win badly.
