Williams Wall Will Work Week Won. . .er, One
ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert is reporting that even if a Minnesota court rules on the bogus, garbage suspensions of Pat and Kevin Williams this week, they'll still be allowed to play this weekend against Cleveland.

In related non-news...
Pat Williams has not announced whether the NFL may continue to play regardless of whether his attorney eventually thrashes the NFL’s sorry case within an inch of its life with a brutal bludgeoning from the Tenth Amendment of the U. S. Constitution.
The founders of this great country were quietly unavailable for comment.

So I have a question
I don’t know much about this whole Star-Caps fiasco or the law regarding this issue. But my only thing with the Williams’ situation is there were 4 other players who were suspended by the NFL for Star-Caps, and all of them served their suspension. Is the Williams’ situation in some way different then the rest of the players who were suspended for this? I guess it seems to me like their getting special treatment, and find it a little suspicious, that a MN judge blocked their suspension..(Little biased maybe??)
Again I don’t know much about this situation, and I guess I want to know why they shouldn’t serve their 4 game suspension, even though 4 others players did for the same reason the Williams’ are supposed too.

MN has state labor laws
that prevent employers from punishing employees for taking legal medications and supplements. Other states don’t have similar laws.

I see
So why is this situation being dealt with? The law is the law. Does the NFL’s rules someway disregard, or cancel the MN labor laws?

That is what the current case is about
Whether MN state law applies to NFL players. The NFL has argued to a Federal court that is should not. I don’t know the details of the argument. The court rules this week whether state law applies and if so the case will be heard in a MN court. If it makes it to a MN court I don’t see how the law could be interpreted to allow the suspensions but I’m no expert by any means, just someone who pays attention to the media in many forms.

Of course
the NFL’s rules can’t override MN laws. The current case must be a matter of what jurisdiction the employment of the Williamses falls into.

The arguement
Is that the NFL is not based out of Minnesota, hence forth should not be under jusrisdiction of Minnesota law. The WIlliams Wall argues that they are employed in the State of Minnesota hence forth they are under jusrisdiction of Minnesota law. So this won’t be over till the Supreme Court rules or turns it down.
My thought on this whole idea is this. If youre a resident of Minnesota, and driving through a differant state that has a speed limit 5 MPH less then Minnesota, could you claim you’re exempt just because you based from another state? We all know the answer to that one don’t we?

that’s not exactly the arguement.
pat and kevin play in the nfl. because of this they fall under the nfl’s collective bargaining agreement. the nfl is arguing that the cba is exempt from state laws because the nfl is a national company and it’s players by being in the players union, have agreed to the cba. because they have agreed to the cba, they are subject to its rules. this is what the federal court is deciding on right now.
if the court decides in the nfl’s favor, the players will appeal to the supreme court. if the court decides in the players favor, the nfl will appeal to the supreme court. if the supreme court rules in the nfl’s favor, the players will be suspended. if the supreme court rules in the players favor, the case will go back to state court and that court will more than likely side with the players and they won’t be suspended.
as for packallday’s original question, there were other players from other teams involved here. 2 saints players who have not already served their suspensions will not be serving suspensions until this matter is resolved. the rest of the players involved already served suspensions. they weren’t high profile players and probably didn’t want to rock the boat.
to get back to your speeding analogy, we do know the answer but you should have asked the question in a different way. if i work for a trucking company and i join the union, and the union enters into a collective bargaining agreement that states that all truck drivers will drive no faster that 55mph under penalty of fines and/or termination then i am subject to that agreement.
if i’m driving through new mexico and i drive 60 and get caught, i’m subject to fines and being fired unless new mexico has a law that says i can’t be fined or fired for driving a legal speed.
if i’m driving through minnesota and minnesota has a law that says you can’t be fined or fired for driving a legal speed in the state of minnesota and i drive 60 and get caught, can i be fined or fired? we don’t know the answer to that one.

None of the other players
Have served their suspensions yet.
Grady Jackson’s case is still under investigation, Deuce McAlister is currently unemployed, and Charles Grant and Will Smith of the Saints are waiting to hear whether or not they’ll be suspended for four weeks, too. All of those guys spent the second half of last season appealing the ruling.

Intersesting
I guess that’s what I get for trusting my friends information.

For some reason
The rest of what I typed didn’t appear…A friend had told me that all the Saints players served in the last 4 games of last year. Sorry about the confusion, should have verified this information myself, but I guess that’s what laziness will do to you.

If I rememeber...
I think one of the players, maybe a guy on the Texans, just served his suspension last year and got it done with. Everyone else is fighting it.

Becasue that's the way our legal system works
There are plenty of things where laws differ from one state to another. It isn’t just the NFL you know. In parts of Nevada, prostitution is legal. So are you saying whores in Nevada get “special treatment” too?
No, they just have different state an local laws. This has NOTHIGN to do with the NFL, or “special treatment.”

leave it to a pack fan
to question the worthyness of a viking player to play, and then supports that assurtion with false information.
I am not acusing packallday of lying, but rather of believing propaganda with out doing any factchecking before spreading it.

Sorry
Like I stated above, I don’t know really anything about this situation. Only what I have been told by friends, what I’ve seen in the Star Tribune, and internet sources. I wasn’t necessarily spreading it, it was more sharing what I know about the situation, and looking for some verifications of it from some Vikings fans, who I thought would probably know a lot regarding the situation. Sorry again, didn’t mean to spread false information.

I agree
completely. I want to hear all the good and bad(though i’m sure I can remember most everything) from a perspective that once loved favrayyyyyyy. I can remember sitting in a tavern at 14 years old and learning how to hate BF even before he was any good, just cause he was a packer. that and my old man just LOVED booze. we’ll leave that for another day.

Ya I could do that
When you say best and worst of Favre, are you thinking something along the lines of, how he has performed for us in big games, whether his performance was great or poor? Or more so just in my opinion what he does great and what he doesn’t do so great?
I know another guy from APC, wrote a little write-up on Favre shortly after he officially signed with you guys. I’m not sure if you read it or not, but here’s the link!
http://www.dailynorseman.com/2009/8/18/994332/brett-favre-a-users-guide
Just let me know, and I would be more then willing to do a write-up on him for you guys!

how about all of the above? plus some packer perspective on the whole thing. gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair, sighs of relief, good riddance, thank god he’s finally gone, etc…

I'd be glad to chip in too.
I followed the Pack for 46 years and Favre has been my favorite player for a long time. I’m one of those guys who followed him to the Jets and now here, in disgust over Thompson’s handling of the situation. There are a much larger number of us than you might guess. I kept up with the Green Bay and Milwaukee paper blogs last year and at times it was running about 50/50. Of course that’s not scientific, but there are a lot of disgusted packer fans.
Though I imagine some who followed him with the Jets may not have been willing to go quite this far (no offense).

Sounds good
I can definitely do that. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to have it done by, as I just started school again, and am pretty busy. I’ll try my best to get it done as soon as possible.

what a mess
The NFL wants to suspend players for a substance thats not even listed on the bottle.
What the heck are they smoking. Even if the players knew they should be off the hook for that reason alone. The NFL should just put out an annual list of banned products, not just substances. I’m sure they could pay some nerd a few bucks to compile a list every year. Then put it in the hand of every player at training camp. If they do it every year they can catch the companies that change the name of the same product. If a player takes something on the list then they got something. Tell the players that any supplement that they take must be approved by the NFL period. They submit a form and the League has to get back to them within 72 hours. Get rid of any confusion and all this crap can be avoided.
This is a joke. This case is way to wishy washy for anyone to be suspended. Make it
plain and simple for all the players.

the players? or the league?
by iseepurplepeople on Sep 9, 2009 11:06 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Part of the problem
is that they do have a list of banned substances, and a list of products that containe those substances. The problem is that the NFL new in advance that Starcaps contained the banned substance, that it wasn’t on the label, and despite providing a list to the players of such items, they chose to with hold Starcaps from the list. that is why the suspensions are bogus. If the NFL had no prior knowledge of Starcaps use of illigal and unlabeled products then the suspensions would hold more validity.
