Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Thanks, Vikings fans!

This is a message directed at IllinoisVike, ArizonaVikingsFan, drew10, and any other Vikings fans who came over and discussed the Packers-Cardinals game over at Acme Packing Company.

Thanks so much for coming to chat about the game. You guys are welcome to chat about football at Acme Packing Company whenever you like.

I understand this is a fierce rivalry, but it was nice chatting with you guys.  The games between the Packers and Vikings will become increasingly fun to watch over the next few years.  I look forward to chatting with the people I mentioned in this post.

Also, I am a new poster here.  I did see someone I indicated invite Packers fans over here to talk smack.  I will never do that as long as I am here.

Thanks again, and good luck to Minnesota in the playoffs!  For those going to the game next week, have a great time!

This FanPost was created by a registered user of The Daily Norseman, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the staff of the site. However, since this is a community, that view is no less important.

Of course.

Nice of you

I know your thread got overrun with ‘Vikings fans’ (trolls) today. The guys you mentioned and the vast majority of the rest of us aren’t quite that classless.

Don’t get me wrong – I enjoyed the Packers loss today. But trolling is a drag.

by Knut on Jan 10, 2010 10:00 PM CST reply actions

It didn't actually get that overrun.

Those who did show up only talked smack for a few minutes and then disappeared.

On the other hand, there was a Carolina Panthers fan who kept going back on to APC with different user names and got himself banned three times. That might be a single-night record.

Not sure, to be honest.

But he was REALLY giving us a hard time.

It’s not just over at APC that this was happening, too. He went on to the Saints’ SB Nation blog and posted trollish FanPosts there, too.

You might have noticed the pictures of a guy in a #34 Panthers jersey … that was his profile picture on one of his accounts.

Someone probably from APC

creates accounts and comes over here all the time. Personally I think APC is kind of trollish overall. Its hard to blame people given the stuff that gets posted over there.

by Salty on Jan 10, 2010 10:37 PM CST up reply actions

There's a lot of trollish stuff that goes on between Packers fans and Vikings fans.

But this is a thanks to the Vikings fans who stopped by APC to chat. One of them even chastised the Vikings fans who came after the game to troll.

APC was really heated after the Packers lost at Tampa earlier this year.

It can happen between two fans of the same team at any time, especially if they share different viewpoints.

And also,

It’s bad that so much trolling goes on.

Man that was a second tough OT playoff loss in a row to take for Packers ...

There are eerie similarities tbetween today how the Packers last got knocked out of playoffs — two years ago, by the Giants. The Packers get outplayed, have a defensive collapse somehow manage to come back to tie the game in the 4th, sneak into overtime when the other team misses a short FG to win in closing seconds, win the toss & then the QB, the hero of the regular season & otherwise one of the bright spots of the game (Grant & defense was a complete non-factor in both), turns it over to give the other team the easy score.

Favre got crucified for that turnover in OT two years ago by many over at Acme & the rest of “Packer Nattion,” he was said to have “choked.”. Will be interesting to see if Rodgers gets the same treatment. I’m thinking not. But truly their “failures” — as classified by oters’ apparent standards, not mine — were eerily similar in those last two playoff games for the Pack. I’m not gonna blame Rodgers for this loss, no more than I blamed Favre for that loss. But those Packer fans who crucified Favre for that loss, I don’t know how they can look at themselves in the mirror if they don’t pin this one on Rodgers.

The fact is,

The Packers had so many lapses all around that it’s almost impossible to pin the blame on just one player, or one facet of the game.

Yep.

Both games, they had a chance to win, but the other team was better and deserved to win.

Yes, exactly

that was my point. Two years ago Grant had 25 yards rushing (in brutal passing weather!) and the defense (especially AL Harris) got burend every freaking play. But it all got pinned on Brett by many Packer fans looking for a scapegoat. Even though QB was the only part of the Packer team effort that was remotely comparable to the Giants’

huh.

by puddnhead on Jan 10, 2010 11:11 PM CST up reply actions

Pakers fans come accross the worst in this whole 2 year saga

And by the way you raise some excellent points….in your comparisson.

Rodgers can do no wrong in the eyes of Packers fans.

by dsludo on Jan 11, 2010 9:34 AM CST up reply actions

Although yes it's true that Rodgers can do no wrong for some

Truly he did more than enough right in the game yesterday to not take the blame. Of course he wants both his first & last plays back … and there were a couple passes in between that were off the mark to wide open receivers … but that happens to every QB at some point, including the Vikings’

The Packers have a enigma, wrapped in a mystery, surrounded by a riddle in their defense — is it any good or not? And I do think they have to seriously examine their coaching and front office.

I was reading over at Acme and I’ve been very surprised that I see no discussion about the poor clock management at the half (eventually forcing them to kick a FG with 1st and goal at the two yard line). The Packers tie the play clock run down from around 50 seconds to 21 seconds, even though they had two time outs. Obviously if they get a TD instead of a FG their, and nothing changes in second half (big if, I know, but this is all you can do …), then there is no OT; Packers win.

I’m not gonna bring that up over at Acme, since I’m not the right messenger for that. And to some degree that coaching gaffe is made up for by the absolutely brilliant (for the circumstances of that game) call for the onsides kick in the third quarter. But McCarthy has never been very good at clock management, and I think Favre might have obscured that problem until now. Rodgers is exactly what they want, a system QB, but … that means if there is a flaw in the system (poor two minute drill clock management), then it doesn’t get corrected by the QB any more.

by puddnhead on Jan 11, 2010 10:03 AM CST up reply actions

While you didn't see any complaints about that,

I was wondering about that, though I didn’t voice it over at APC. I thought the Packers wasted too much time there, and when the finally ran a play, too little time remained for them to go for the end zone. As a result, they had to settle for a field goal.

-Anne Frank-

by Vermont Cubs Fan on Jan 11, 2010 10:08 AM CST up reply actions

I'm curious if it will come up later

In some ways, I understand what they were doing — they didn’t want to give Zona the ball back with any time on the clock. Warner was walking on water at that point; who knows, maybe with those three TOs in their pocket, he marches 80 yards down the field in 30 seconds. I would not have been surprised.

But even if that really was the plan, McCarthy got too cute there, he cut it too fine. And I don’t think that was the conscious plan anyway. I just think the Packers need to work on their two minute drills. I know there were a lot of games in ‘08 they could have won with a score on their last possession, but didn’t. But I can’t remember the details of enough of them to figure out who might have been most culpable for pulling each one off (coaching, playcalling, players, or ???)

I tell you, after the exhaustion & numbness has started to wear off … I am starting to become aware that I may have just witnessed one of the greatest playoff games in NFL history. Even though your team didn’t win it, VCF, that is still something to hang onto & cherish. It’s much, MUCH better than losing the way the Bengals, Eagles or Patsies did (with a whimper, not the bang the Packers produced)

by puddnhead on Jan 11, 2010 10:43 AM CST up reply actions

Exactly.

I’m very pleased at how the Packers fought back, even though the game didn’t end as I liked.

When it was 31-10, I was wondering if I was watching a repeat of the other three games from this weekend.

he had more TD’s than incompletions.. Are you freakin kidding me? That is amazing. I think he passer rating was like 150…

by Grime on Jan 11, 2010 3:27 PM CST up reply actions

Very high.

his passer rating was 154.1.

He had 4 incompletions, and five touchdown passes.

It just goes to show

When he’s on it’s hard for any team in the NFL to beat him… That’s what so damn scary about playing the Cards right now. How the hell did St Louis ever get rid of him?

by Grime on Jan 11, 2010 4:16 PM CST up reply actions

I lived in St. Louis at the time that went down

The take was that Martz thought Marc Bulgar was better. Also there was a little bit of the “Favre-Rodgers” effect too — if if Bulgar wasn’t immediately better, he was still the one to go with, because he was younger.

by puddnhead on Jan 11, 2010 4:38 PM CST up reply actions

I didn't.

See that Onside Kick call NOR the 4th Quarter decision to go for it on 4th down with 14 minutes still left in the game as “brilliant” at all. Coaches rarely make those types of overly aggressive decisions because, well, they rarely work and if you go for all or nothing (as they were doing in those situations), and miss, you’re cooked, done.

If anything, I saw those decisions by McCarthy as boneheaded, cocky, and foolish…it was more annoying that luck favored them in both choices but man, oh man, had they not gotten the lucky recovery and lucky conversion, that coach would be vilified.

Just my take on it, though.

by Wytefang on Jan 11, 2010 10:46 AM CST up reply actions

You realize that Zona punted once the entire game?

And that Warner had more TDs than incompletions?

I think McCarthy took one from the Belicheck playbook here. Hoodie didn’t want to give it back to Peyton, and McCarthy sure as heck didn’t want Kurt to get it back!

by puddnhead on Jan 11, 2010 11:11 AM CST up reply actions

Absolutely not

Rodgers is a “stud” and “mvp.” If Favre had the same exact performance it would be entirely his fault they lost – like the Giants game – and in today’s game, the opposite. Its so pathological that people there argue that he doesn’t hold on to the ball too long. That could qualify as delusional.

You're not missing much ... that is, if what you want is to watch the game

Now that the TV telecast is in HD, it as so much easier to actually watch the game. I only go to live games expecting to party and enjoy the atmosphere — not to actually see the game. Last game I went to was Packers vs. Lions at Lambeau in 2007 (Favre’s last regular season game as a Packer, I think?) Had a great time, but it had very little to do with the game itself!

by puddnhead on Jan 10, 2010 11:20 PM CST up reply actions

The atmosphere outside the stadium can be worth it, even if the view at the game is not great.

Wish more Packer fans had been like this while I was growing up – I’d certainly hate them a LOT less. Sorry for your team’s loss, Vermont Cubs Fan. It’s painful, I know. :(

I’m not terribly confident about our chances this upcoming Sunday either but I’m hoping against hope that we can put it all together and whup these Cowboys!

I wish Packers fans didn't take their team as seriously as they do.

I went to Lambeau Field once, and it was downright scary.

And, to go along with what you said, Cubs fans also have a reputation as being bad. Yet I just saw a Brewers fan tell me at APC that he thinks I would be one of the few Cubs fans he could tolerate at Miller Park. The stadium in Milwaukee fills up with Cubs fans whenever the Cubs are in town.

When he told me how Cubs fans generally treat him, I reacted by saying “That’s just terrible.”
