At the beginning of this year there is nothing more I wanted to see Bret Favre humbled and embarrassed. Not that I acually hated Favre, but Green Bay is my team, Vikings our number 1 rival for since 1992 and therefore I wanted to dance in your sorrow.. because surely there is no way Favre leads the team to success. But a funny thing happened along the way
First after a conservatie start, Favre became more and more integral to the success of the Vikings. He wasn't making mistakes and he was still making big plays. The two games against Green Bay he made every big play he needed to make. But it wasn't just Favre, even as a fan of yoru biggest rival it is hard not to respect how many big plays Sidney Rice made all year (amazing) or how tough Percy Harvin is. Not to mention your rookie RT big phil who basically embarassed Aaron Kampman both games and was steady throughout the season. Vikings are filled with guys who play the game the right way. Actually the only player I feel is overrated on the Vikings is AD, but that is admitidly a philosophical opinion as I love backs like Chester Taylor who can runa and catch. Also I would like to think this season was almost like a heavyweight fight. The Brett Favre vs. Aarron Rodgers thing will go on with illogical fans for years i suppose, but i would like to think that both sides earned each others respect a little more. For my part I was proud that under difficult circumstances Rodgers never gave up or layed down. He kept battling to the end. He and the team came up a little short no dishonour in that. While I know there are no moral victories i also think there is no shame in losing when you fight to the very end. (i was reminded of this as i contrasted the Packers reaction vs. Cowboys reaction to when both teams were down big early). The Vikings are playing great, they will beat/ have to beat all the "best" teams to win the Super Bowl and they will have earned it. While I will probally still not cheer for you, I will give you props for a well deserved win and excellent team perfromances shall they continue like they have all year. i hope everyone that is a Vikings fan is enjoying this year...you, the fans, deserve some good luck for once.
