Baffled by McAllister love
I don't understand where all the NO love for Deuce McAllister comes from. He could be a good player and I hoped he would be a consistently great, bruising back like Bettis was or somebody, but the things I remember most from this guy are the fumbles at key times and the repeated letdown seasons and injuries he spent on my fantasy team. Including the game in which he ran for seven (7) yards and said after the game something about it being the worst effort of his life, the way he talked about it made it sound like he admitted not really trying or just giving up when things went poorly.
I'm not trying to bash McAllister on this post, just surprised how much people must love this guy for them to re-sign him for a couple games when there's not a lot of point outside of ceremony, but usually ceremony would be for someone like Earl Campbell or Jerry Rice. McAllister could be good but I don't remember him as a Rice-like career guy.
Any opinions out there?

I think I
heard hes done a lot for the community. I used to like Heyward myself when playing against a friend who wouldn’t let me take the Vikes.
Deuce was great for the Saints
He provided pretty much the only offensive threat we had for awhile. He was a consummate professional, even though he did lose a couple seasons to injury. He had bad games, but contrary to your impression he never gave up. And, as KC612 said above, he did a lot for the community.
He also acted as a mentor to Reggie Bush and then Pierre Thomas when they were acquired, and remains very popular in the locker room. I read that when Payton matter-of-factly mentioned in a team meeting that the Saints had made a couple roster moves—sent defensive tackle Rod Leisle to injured reserve, and in his place signed running back Deuce McAllister—the room erupted in cheers.
Everyone in New Orleans loves Deuce.

That's awesome I have plenty of respect for a team that does that
But if he really wants a ring he should join the vikes for one game! ;)
Nope.
We’re playing two. We’d just cut him after we beat you.
What MtnExile said
He was the heart of our offense for the years after they cut Ricky Williams loose. I still remember Deuce’s first big run in his first season when Ricky was still on the team. Ricky hadn’t been running well and fans were growing impatient with him. Haslett put in Deuce on a play from around the Saints 40 yard line. Deuce hit a hole in the middle and streaked into the endzone for a big TD. After that year, they dealt Ricky to Miami in favor of Deuce. Before his knee injuries, he was a force to be reckoned with. Defensive players around the league would tell you he was a load to bring down.
His most memorable performance for Saints fans came in the 2006 NFC Divisional playoff game against the Eagles. And, this was after one of his knee surgeries. He was the star of that game. Without his effort, I’m not sure we win that game. He scored two TD’s while running over anyone who got in his way. My most memorable Deuce moment – and many Saints fans will say it’s the same for them – was when he and the O-line moved the pile from around the 5 yard line into the endzone for a miraculous-looking TD in that game. It was an awesome scrum where Deuce somehow emerged from the other side into the endzone and without his helmet. Here’s a good highlight video:
Many years from now when Adrian Peterson calls it a career, whatever feelings Vikings fans have for All Day then will be exactly the same that we Saints fans have for Deuce. The guy has always been a classy, selfless player with a lot of heart. I can’t recall any game where he didn’t give his all for the team and fans.
"I said this early on that this was a good football team, they just maybe had to have a stick put in certain parts of their body to play a little harder in certain places to where we’re able to take interceptions and score touchdowns."--Gregg Williams

Actually if you think about it
If AD were to run with this team for 10 years and then on the 11th after he quit the game we were heading to the SB I would very much approve a coach doing this for him.
As long as you're not in need of another player
That was the key. For one game, we had that luxury. Pretty cool, really.
WHODAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dynasty - 2009 - ????
Don't forget he's also a hometown boy from the gulf south
A star at Mississippi. Lots of MS Saints fans.

I Don't Ever Remember Deuce Being a Fumbler.....
Reggie Bush has had that problem, though.
I read somewhere he’ll be taking a job in the Saints front office – ‘hope it’s true!

Other than Saints fans, perhaps not enough people know it.....
but Deuce represented everything all football fans wish the NFL really was.
I actually was hoping back in the draft
When we drafted Michael Bennett At #27, that Duece would have fallen to us instead, but the Saints nabbed himat #25. He was a complete back; caught the ball well, could block, and was tough to bring down. Too bad for all the injuries he had his career was cut short but still a good player.
We were HAPPY to draft Deuce and he has had a MAJOR impact, not only on our team....
but moreso in the city of New Orleans and if he could possibly play one more play, HE WOULD!!!!!
DON'T STOP 'TIL WE REACH THE TOP!!!!!!!!
