Sure, the Vikings had their chances....I know you should not loose a game when you loose the turnover battle. That being said. The refs were on the New Orleans payroll. You do not call a ticky tack penalty on 3rd down in OT in the NFC Champtionship game that puts the team in field goal position. The Refs are supposed to be invisible if they do their job correctly. Obviously they screwed up. The refs even had a chance to be the equalizer with the booth review of the next completion. At least it would have made it a 45 or so yard field goal. Did they do that? No.
I always have a hard time complementing Chilly, but I think he and his coaches called a heck of a game. The plays calls were perfect. The players played their hearts out. Homefield advantage killed us with the 12 men in the huttle penalty.
I did think the refs let the Saints get too many hits on Favre. Only one was called. There was the hit at his knees and hit high...there was the hit after the wistle (crowd noise). If the referees are going to let that stuff go, then the pass int call has too. Why didn't the crew do its job and huttle up after the call and discuss? I did not see that happening.
New Orleans played a heck of a game...its just too bad that this one will have an asterisk on it. I feel bad for the Saints that they were not allowed the opportunity to win it out right...especially after such a competive game.
Favre's 1 season with the Vikes was awesome.... I just can't see hime abusing his body at 41yrs, especially after the beating the Saints gave him. I did think besides the fumblitis, it was the best road game of the season by the Vikes. Maybe the refs put a little silicon on the Vikes footballs? ;-)
I look forward reading others posts. I feel better in this loss than the 2001, or 1999 playoff games, as our players and coaches gave it their all. The D did their damnest. The OT I think played the best that could have been expected given the hostile territory. Coaching was perfect. Something that was missing in 1999 and 2001.
Vikes need to draft a hot shot QB next year, and a promising NT (Pat Williams is an old man and doesn't have much time left.)
It would be sweet if the Vikes players all held out of the pro-bowl as a protest to the poor ref'ing. It would give me a chuckle.
I am so proud of this Vikings Team. They played their hearts out.
