Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

To various parties

To Adrian Peterson, no matter what, we will always support you and cheer for you. I think everybody criticizes you too much. I have nothing critical to say about you. You are a terrific football player. You are in control of the destiny of yourself and this team. This fan has your back come hell or high water. #28 forever.

To Brett Favre, thank you for coming to the Vikings. You are terrific. I know this game hurt. We fans were hurting along with you. You are the greatest quarterback to ever play this game. You have nothing to prove. If you retire, you have our support. If you want to come back, you have our support. Please come back next year. We will win it all together. #4 forever.

To Brett Favre's wife, thank you for letting us have your husband as quarterback of our team this year. Not only did Brett thrill us with his greatest season ever, but he also taught us Vikings fans to love and respect him, and that makes us better football fans. We are asking your husband to come back to our team, but we fans will respect your family's decision.

Star-divide

To Packers fans, don't you wish your team had used the draft picks they used on Aaron Rodgers and Brian Brohm for offensive linemen (EDIT: or offensive playmakers like Roddy White), and kept Brett Favre? You would have undoubtedly won the Super Bowl at least one more time in recent years, maybe this year. Before you say, "See, Favre made turnovers in the playoffs," I would draw your attention to Aaron Rodgers's two turnovers in his only career playoff game, one of which directly led to you losing to the Cardinals. Favre outplayed Rodgers this entire year, despite being 40, and could have been this amazing for the Packers for the last 5+ years if you only had put the players around him like we have here, and had better coaches. If you had Favre this year plus the great offensive line that you could have had, you would probably be going to Miami right now.

To the NFL, this overtime game was yet another example of a winner by coin flip. A coin flip should not decide it. In overtime, each team should be guaranteed one possession. If each team scores the same number of points on their first possession, then it should become sudden death. This rule-change would improve the game.

To NFL officials, your back-to-back-to-back egregious errors  in overtime did not go unnoticed. First you had a non-reversal of the spot when Greenway knocked the ball loose from Pierre Thomas. Bad spot. Then Ben Leber lightly brushed Dave Thomas, the ball was thrown way over Dave Thomas's head, and you called pass interference on Leber. Bad call. Then the Saints receiver drops the ball and you call it a catch, even upholding it on review. What are you doing? Are you trying to "give New Orleans a lift after the hurricane" at the Vikings' expense? What's going on? But wait. You also failed to call roughing the passer when a Saints player hit Brett Favre at the knees/ankles. Under the Tom Brady rule, that should have been a personal foul. That should have wiped out Favre's first interception. You are an embarrassment. Your officiating reminds me of professional wrestling. It makes me think that maybe I should not bother following the NFL next year, since obviously the Vikings seem to often suffer unfair calls when it matters most. Your wrong "leg-whip" call on Dugan in the Steelers game cost the Vikings home field advantage. In the Metrodome, the Vikings would have blown out the Saints. Let's not forget your error back in 1975 when Pearson pushed off. What do the Vikings have to do to get games called fairly? Honestly. I am wondering. I am honestly just wondering what is wrong with us. Why do we always get these ridiculously bad calls? Why us? Meanwhile, the Packers have had one questionable call over the last 40 years, relating to Aaron Rodgers and the tuck rule in the Cardinals game. Do you hate my football team for some reason? Please just call the game right. Don't bumble your job like in this game. Be fair.

To the lower-rung of Saints fans, please get off our site. I hate your team forever. Many of you can be highly annoying when you post here. Let's say a Vikings fan posts something here at Daily Norseman. Before any Vikings fan has a chance to reply, Shants fans have written, how many, five comments? Please get out our hair. Just buzz off. I hope Peyton Manning utterly destroys your team with his healthy offensive line.

To Gregg Williams, I hope the NFL investigates your apparent tactics of encouraging players to commit personal fouls on quarterbacks. Look at the cheap shots your team took on Kurt Warner and Brett Favre. You are a coward and an animal.

To Brad Childress, thank you for doing a great job. I am glad you have thick skin. You are a very good coach who has built a talented team. Many media people have said this Vikings team is loaded with talent. The truth is that it's not as loaded yet as it needs to be. While there are several above-average players, there are a couple of key holes to fill, and we'll talk more about that here on Daily Norseman. Through it all, I want you to know that this Vikings fan thinks the world of you as a human being and as the football head coach of our team. You are awesome. Every time a Vikings fan unjustly criticizes you--and that's pretty often--I try to defend you but sometimes I can't get to all their craziness. Many fans are emotionally wrecked by the past tragedies suffered by the Vikings, and sometimes they can't think straight. You are the doctor curing the disease. You are almost there to that first Super Bowl victory. Keep going.

To EJ Henderson, please come back to the Vikings. We will win it all next year. Even if you can't come back, thank you for being a noble warrior for us all these years. You are unforgettable. #56 forever.

To Erin Henderson, thank you for keeping your integrity. Please come back and earn a roster spot in training camp again,  stay healthy, and contribute on the field. We need you.

To Pat Williams thank you for this wonderful run with the Vikings. Please come back. We will win it all next year. If you decide to retire, though, we will fully support you. I think you should be inducted into the Hall of Fame and the Vikings Ring of Honor. You can retire right now with dignity, respect, and our admiration and gratitude forever. But please come back. Whatever your decision is, we fans love and support you. #94 forever.

To Jim Kleinsasser, thank you for this wonderful run with the Vikings. You are a man among boys on the football field. Please come back next year. We will win it all together. #40 forever.

To Cedric Griffin, I hope you are not badly injured. You are a terrific football player who keeps improving all the time. When Fox finally showed that it was you who was injured, it made me sick. You're one of my favorite Vikings. Be all right, #23.

To Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin, we support you. Please keep that thick skin, Bernard Berrian. Some fans are getting it wrong about you. You were not as productive this year because of your injuries, but when healthy you produce. I would love to see you come back to the Vikes next year. You guys, please just keep working and improving your game. We're going to win it all next year. Percy, on your migraines, I don't know what to say except that when you have one, we feel pain that you are in pain. You are a special person, and you shouldn't have to go through that.

To the front office, please re-sign Ray Edwards, Chester Taylor, and Tarvaris Jackson, or at least try. I can't remember if Benny Sapp's contract is coming up, but we need him too. I can't remember who else has a contract coming up.

To Zygi Wilf, thank you for rebuilding the Vikings so well. I just know that you will find a way to get that stadium built in the Twin Cities. You're going to get it done. I love the idea of applying for federal stimulus money. We are praying for you and your efforts. This Vikings team you have built is great, and next year, with some changes here and there, will be super.

To all the Vikings players, coaches, and staff, thank you. You are beloved by us fans. Thank you for a wonderful year. We support you and cheer for you. You have become a wonderful football team, and we just like watching you play this game of football. This game must have hurt you guys like hell. It hurt us fans, too. Just recognize how close you are to being super. Next year, we will win it all together.

To all Vikings fans, let's face it. We kind of saw this coming ever since the Cardinals game. This isn't a big shock. Our team played tough on the road in a challenging environment tonight. For giving up five turnovers on the road in the playoffs and to be in it until the end, it speaks about how good our Vikings have become. Our Vikings had only two non-divisional road victories this year; the Cleveland Browns and St Louis Rams. That wasn't going to be good enough. Regardless of whether Favre comes back, our team is going to be awesome next year. They are going to win it all.

To Brett.........see ya. To AP, Balls on the ground, Balls on the ground, Lookin' like some fools with those BALLS on the ground.

Last pass as a Packer, INT
Last 2 as a Jet, INT/Illegal Forward Pass
Last pass as a Viking, INT
Pretty proud of our guy Brett, brought this team within sniffing distance of that trophy and then snatched it away. I am glad it’s over.
Looking Like A Fool With Your Balls On The Ground……….. I thought it was hilarious when Brett did it after the ’Boys game…………any more was just dumb.
Karma is tough to beat.
Better luck next year.

LOL +1

"We have a right to be proud, for in our veins flows the blood of many brave races who fought as the lion fights for lordship. Here, in the whirlpool of European races, the Ugric tribe bore down from Iceland the fighting spirit which Thor and Odin gave them, which their Berserkers displayed to such fell intent on the seaboards of Europe, ay, and of Asia and Africa too, till the peoples thought that the werewolves themselves had come."

oh yeah....

Cheap shots agree on as well…No place for that….from any indivdual, no matter the team….Do not think that is a team thing, that is individual choice….Should be dealt with as such….

To Packers fans, don’t you wish your team had used the draft picks they used on Aaron Rodgers and Brian Brohm for offensive linemen, and kept Brett Favre? You would have undoubtedly won the Super Bowl at least one more time in recent years, maybe this year. Before you say, “See, Favre made turnovers in the playoffs,” I would draw your attention to Aaron Rodgers’s two turnovers in his only career playoff game, one of which directly led to you losing to the Cardinals.

Too answer your question simply, hell no. Aaron Rodgers is 26 years old and is a top 5 Qb in the league. Despite, having what was the worst o-line in the league until Tauscher and Clifton were back healthy around week 10 or so. He is going to be our Qb for years to come (barring any major injuries or accidents), and will only get better as he gets more and more experience.

You should also mention that it was Rodger’s first career playoff game. I love how you say “only” as if he has been our starting Qb for 5+ years, implying that he hasn’t even been able to get us to the playoffs.

You can say Favre outplayed Rodgers but there is no denying Favre’s surrounding factors were much more favorable then Rodgers. Favre had the best running back in football to work with, along with one of the better o-lines in the league. Rodgers didn’t have either of those things, and in comparison his Rb and o-line were both relatively average. Yet, their stats were still relatively similar, as well as only a one game difference in their teams records.

Favre had everything he needed in 2007 around him for us to make it to the SB. Clifton and Tauscher at OT’s (who were both still playing at a very high level), a top 5 WR core, a good running game (Grant rushed for nearly 1,000 yards in 9 games), and a defense ranked 6th in scoring on the year. You guys definitely had better weapons around him this year (soley because of how good AP is and the threat he imposes on opposing defenses) but what we had around him in 2007 was plenty enough for him to win a SB with.

by packallday555 on Jan 25, 2010 1:32 AM CST reply actions

So

You would pass on the Lombardi.

by medicineball on Jan 25, 2010 2:05 AM CST up reply actions

We wouldn’t have won a Lombardi in 2008. Jenkins, Barnett, Collins, Harris, Bigby, Tauscher, and Clifton all missed pretty significant time in 2008. Having those 5 guys out on defense killed our defense.

by packallday555 on Jan 25, 2010 2:25 AM CST up reply actions

That team was NOT going to win anything. One player doesn’t take a team from, what were we…6-10, to the Super Bowl. Rodgers played very well in 2008 but the defense was dreadful. Favre maybe wins us 2 of those games.

by TrevorR on Jan 25, 2010 4:19 PM CST up reply actions

The key to the post was...

The Packers could have used the picks to select players that could have pushed you over the top, versus using two high draft picks on players that didn’t play for years (and in one instance – never will).

by LoveHate on Jan 26, 2010 4:25 PM CST up reply actions

I understand the post

and understand what TrevorR is saying. The truth is that one can never go back and compare draft picks. I think even Medicineball would admit this now that he has had a day to cool down.
My point is that the Vikes could have won the SB if we had not used draft picks on T-Jack and Thigpen, and Booty the last few years. We could have drafted better players that don’t crowd 12 people in a huddle.
Its an impossible argument to look back at draft choices. A team can only look ahead.

I’m just thankful that Brett was let go by the Pack (not at their own choosing) and am hoping we can fix our long term QB issue soon.

Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes

by lifelongvike on Jan 26, 2010 4:38 PM CST up reply actions

one more thing

Why didn’t you just trade Favre back in 2006? Apparently it would have saved both of our teams a lot of trouble.

by medicineball on Jan 25, 2010 2:25 AM CST up reply actions

I mean

I mean, trade him to us back then.

by medicineball on Jan 25, 2010 2:25 AM CST up reply actions

I couldn’t answer that one for ya.

by packallday555 on Jan 25, 2010 2:28 AM CST up reply actions

To Gregg Williams, I hope the NFL investigates your apparent tactics of encouraging players to commit personal fouls on quarterbacks. Look at the cheap shots your team took on Kurt Warner and Brett Favre. You are a coward and an animal.

Don’t you think we’re being a little over dramatic here? Have you actually heard somewhere that William’s has encouraged players to take cheap shots on Qb’s? Or is this just you speculating? Coward and an animal? Why? Because he is a blitz happy coordinator whose mentality has always been hitting the Qb is the best form of defending the pass? Does this make Rex Ryan and Dick LaBeau animals and cowards as well?

by packallday555 on Jan 25, 2010 1:40 AM CST reply actions

reply

Two personal fouls called, one not called. The shot on Warner. The NFL should investigate.

by medicineball on Jan 25, 2010 2:05 AM CST up reply actions

Shot on Warner was clean

Most everything on Favre was clean as well. Should we just make it illegal to rush the QB?

by Danwood on Jan 25, 2010 11:41 AM CST up reply actions

Sure

If the ball was blown dead and the defensive guy wants to hit him anyway, or if they defense things it would be more fun to hit him in the knee. you don’t need to be a dick a lot just once. Honestly how would you feel if that blow to favres knee broke it? On an accidental play np, but on a play where the guy was aiming for the knee? I hope he catches herpes on his anus.

by Grime on Jan 25, 2010 4:05 PM CST up reply actions

What about the hit on Brees that one of the vikings had. They called a penalty on it when it was done to Favre but nothing when the same hit was done to Brees. This is a pretty ridiculous argument. They protect the QB SO much right now…you want it MORE? Coming from a team with a vicious defense that is captained by Jared Allen who’s known for a few of his questionable hits?

I guess I don’t get that. I don’t think there was a conspiracy there…

by TrevorR on Jan 25, 2010 4:22 PM CST up reply actions

I saw the same game Trevor

and i will admit I didn’t see it from the saints point of view but I say an alarming amount of bad calls on teh vikes. Many of them in OT. There was that straight up the middle TD thta was a foot short (not the one where bush went by the corner) two bad hits on Favre that didn’t get called (one brady and one that was called dead for a offensvie offsides call) how do you hit a qb in a shotgun on a damn offsides call and don’t get aflag?! You had a PI on 3n9 where they would have to punt in OT. There were more I’ve thrown them out on this blog before and I"m a bit tired of typing them since realyl they don’t matter.

I would like to see that crew never work another game though.

by Grime on Jan 25, 2010 4:26 PM CST up reply actions

The PI call was total S$%t I agree with you there completely I was shocked they called it. The rest of the calls were those kinds where depending on who you want to win you see something different. Kind of a you see what you want to see kind of thing.

FOr the most part, before OT, there were WAY more penalties called against the Saints. The spread at the end of the game was 5 for 32 against the Vikes and 9 for 88 against the Saints. I can’t listen to an argument that the saints weren’t getting penalties called on them. I rememmber thinking how clean of a game the Vikings had played…it was impressive (especially considering how penalty prone MY team is haha)

On the Pierre Thomas TD, you are right, it was short but it was also first down and 9 on that play. They had two more yards to get a few inches. They may not have but the odds were in their favor. You are right though, they did miss that one.

by TrevorR on Jan 25, 2010 4:35 PM CST up reply actions

Oh he probably would have gotten it in but we are pretty tough on the run

and it wouldn’t have been the first time we’ve stopped a 2 and 1. Holding them to FG would have been solid. I’m not saying they didn’t call the Saints what I’m saying is they should have called them more. If I go out there and hold a guys face mask every play it shoud be called every play. Not ignored because it wasn’t as bad as that last play or whatever. There is no balance act on penalties some teams earn them more than the other. Holding on Shiancoe the guy had 2 feet of white shirt in his hand.

Seriously just because they had 10 fouls doesn’t mean the game was called fairly if they should have had 20 called.

by Grime on Jan 25, 2010 4:54 PM CST up reply actions

Honestly though, I bet if you asked the average Saints fan they could come up with a list of missed penalties too. There’s ALWAYS missed calls…remember there’s only what 5 or 6 refs and 22 players on the field. I don’t want it to come off as me trying to pick a fight, I’m not, I just know that I can think of a few missed penalties that benefited your team and if I was a Saints fan I probably would have noticed others.

by TrevorR on Jan 25, 2010 9:52 PM CST up reply actions

TrevoR

The PI in overtime was an unacceptable call… in the NFC championship game the refs shouldn’t determine the outcome.

by K.C. Viking on Jan 25, 2010 10:23 PM CST up reply actions

I’ve said a few times in here that the PI was was total BS. You are right there. They thought they saw something, it looked like it until we saw a few angles and then it was clear it wasn’t. The refs get one look in real time…mistakes are going to happen…that was a big one.

by TrevorR on Jan 26, 2010 8:12 AM CST up reply actions

Roddy White

Let’s say you’re happy with the line, so draft a WR instead of Rodgers. Roddy White was still on the board. In 2007, he had 83 rec, 1202 yds, and 6 TD. That would have been your leading receiver in 2007. With him you would have beaten the Giants.

by medicineball on Jan 25, 2010 2:14 AM CST up reply actions

Well, seeing as how we had one of the top WR cores in the league I don’t think wasting a 1st round pick on one of our strong spots would have been a smart thing to do.

With him you would have beaten the Giants.

Um really?

by packallday555 on Jan 25, 2010 2:24 AM CST up reply actions

C'mon man

Roddy White is better than Driver, Jennings, anybody else you’ve had for years.

Much better.

by medicineball on Jan 25, 2010 2:27 AM CST up reply actions

I never said he wasn’t. We didn’t lose to the Giants because our WR’s couldn’t get open.

Ok Pack wtf?

Your not a vike fan but you’ll come on here and pick issues with us right after our team lost? Well played man.. Oh wait that’s pretty shitty of you. I had to say I thought a little better of you than just trolling post about the NFC Champ game we just lost.

Don’t worry about. You don’t need to apologize. I understand how you were feeling about the loss, and I’m sorry if any of my posts came off as rubbing it in. That wasn’t my intention whatsoever.

by packallday555 on Jan 25, 2010 4:11 PM CST up reply actions

That was big move there. Honestly when MOST of us come in here we have no intention of rubbing anything in your faces. We know the feeling. We want to talk football and get your take on things…maybe have a little give and take. I know that when you are sulking though that innocent comments can seem attacking though…I’ve been there too. Its hard to NOT attack back though when people start coming after us. Honestly I’d love to be able to come in here and just talk football sometimes with you guys without having to always make it about the packers vs vikings…

by TrevorR on Jan 25, 2010 4:26 PM CST up reply actions

I think that can happen actually I hope it does during the off season

it’s going to be a loong cold offseason for both of us. Both of our teams should do really well next year. We’ll be less excited if we don’t solve the QB issue but we shoudl both be contending for the play offs next year no matter what.
Be interesting to catch your ideas on draft picks and how you really feel about your defense. I was watching some of the games and I can’t tell if it reallyl is that good or what.

by Grime on Jan 25, 2010 4:35 PM CST up reply actions

I hope it can happen too. Its frustrating though because anytime anything is said that could be REMOTELY against your team in here you get called a troll and no one even reads what you say anymore.

Honestly, I like the give and take a little as long as it doesn’t just become about make stupid meaningless comments about either teams ineptitude. The facts are that both teams are good, both teams fell short and both teams will probably be very good again next year.

by TrevorR on Jan 25, 2010 4:37 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, I know for me I find it interesting to come on here and talk football with you Vikings fans simply because I live in MN, and many of my friends can’t get past the whole Packers suck thing. I love football and love talking about it with anyone who will listen. I follow the Vikings relatively closely most years due to watching most of their games and reading many of the articles in the Star Tribune about them. It’s nice to be able to come on here and talk to some fans who have actually have a great understanding of football and a realistic about their team.

I don’t ever come on here with the intentions on trolling or rubbing a loss in your guys face. These blogs are meant to talk about football, not to act like a big tough guy online, and see what teams fans can criticize the other teams fans more.

by packallday555 on Jan 25, 2010 4:40 PM CST up reply actions

Ditto

I don’t go onto Acme much, don’t think they like me over there. Instead I have to get by talking to Panther fans. do you know how sad it is talking to Panthers fans?

by Grime on Jan 25, 2010 4:55 PM CST up reply actions

We had one on our game thread because he had made a bet that the Packers would beat the Cardinals. He was cool before the game started, and as you can probably imagine wasn’t so nice when we quickly started the game by going down 17-0.

Feel free to come on over to APC. There is a lot of us over there that just not like to talk football, and having another perspective on things is always a good thing.

by packallday555 on Jan 25, 2010 5:15 PM CST up reply actions

Honestly as long as you don’t come out with one of two attitudes I am totally cool with anyone coming…the two attitudes are:

1. packer fans must be idiots *(and you are therefore obviously smarter and right) because they are from WI (this is just a stupid take…honestly if you go out to the coasts, they think anyone in the midwest is a stupid country bumpkin…its a weak take)

2. the “Packers suck guy” who when he is proven wrong, resorts to pointing out that the Vikings made if further this year or last year. Its a tired weak take too…just have a discussion, it doesn’t have to be about who’s team is better.

Some guys might not like you but i think if you don’t turn into one of those guys, most people won’t mind you being around. Many of us (myself included) actually don’t live in WI. I haven’t lived there in over a decade and i even have a college degree and work in management (I know most would be shocked here haha)

Sigh…

Medicineball specifically questioned out to Packers fans in his post, for crying out loud…

To Packers fans, don’t you wish your team had used the draft picks they used on Aaron Rodgers and Brian Brohm for offensive linemen, and kept Brett Favre?

He simply provided an aswer to the question and was attempting to defend his answer after other issues were brought up about it. Calling him a “troll” is retarded and makes no sense.

Again, I replied to what he said about the Packers and a statement that he made which he based of off pure speculation. I didn’t respond to anything directly pertaining the game.

They hit him low when he threw the pick but to say they “tried to hurt him” is purely speculation.

Dansby hit Rodgers helmet-to-helmet in our game twice. Does that mean he was trying to intentionally hurt him?

f off

and yes you are. You are arguing fairly baseless points just to argue with someone. Seriously your going to give us your personal opinion about how we should feel about our team losing like we shoudl give an F? What a Nancy if your goingto gloat and troll man up about it Pack. Or better yet leave if you can’t say anything constructive and come back in a week when we’re not pissed.

Where did I ever tell you about how you should feel about your team losing? I’ll say it again, I didn’t respond to anything that directly pertained to your NFC Championship game.

I talked told him my opinion on his opinion pertaining to the Packers. I then called him out on saying Williams told his players to try and hurt Qb’s because that is ridiculous and classless to say.

What do I have to gloat about? The Packers lost in the playoffs too..? It’s not like we’re going to be playing in Miami in two weeks and I was coming over here to rub it in that you guys will not be.

Lambasting a troll who wants to come over and spew unintelligent rants about our failure is totally acceptable. Dishing it out to an opposing fan who, all season, has been very respectful and decent, for answering a question specifially posed to Packers fans in the post is totally on the immature side.

ok

Well Pack and VIking83 here it is. No Pack you did not openly attack the Vikings in your statements however you did come over here the day after a huge loss and start picking apart someones emotional thread. Yes it was an emotional thread. What does this mean? It means it’s probably not all facts and you picking through it like a jackal for choice bits is a bit petty. Actually, that above all else is what ticked me off. Usually your above this and I didn’t expect it from you. Remember tough loss people upset, we need to greive a bit and chill out. So, if you don’t have something nice to say you can probably keep it to yourself.

Later you do say positive things but even then with a negative twist. Nothing against you usually I enjoy your posts and your ideas.

As for you vikings83 dont’ get your panties in a twist buddie, I’m not a troll and if you’d read my entries into this blog I would be suprised if you didn’t agree with me, if your ever in WIlmington I’ll buy you a beer and we can complain about refs for a couple of hours.

I’ve got no beef with you Grime… we’re just wounded today.

Good Stuff MB

but why don’t you just take a moment and tell us how you really feel. LOL

I will never complain about officiating, even if it is poor. Teams have to overcome officiating and ours did. We were in the position to win the game. Can’t blame the refs for being able to count to twelve.

Just because it wasn’t meant to be this year does not mean it isn’t meant to be in the future. Look how the Jets turned it around. Keep the faith.

by lifelongvike on Jan 25, 2010 6:55 AM CST reply actions

I don't like to blame the officiating neither

But I think most of their calls and no-calls favored the Saints. You’re right about the 12 man in the huddle penalty, that’s our fault, but the refs weren’t calling any of the holding calls on the Saints, and they didn’t do a good job of protecting Favre at all. It is Illegal to hit a QB below the knees, and that should have been a Hi/Low penalty on the Saints, when they took Favre out late in the 3rd qtr.

Then the game goes into OT, and the Officials decide the game with 2-bad calls that ultimately won the game for the Saints. I’m not calling the game rigged, but it certainly wasn’t fair.

by chaosg on Jan 25, 2010 11:55 AM CST up reply actions

That post hit it on the head.

Although that last play I would have run a screen or a run play to the left. Then kicked the ball and hoped Longwell had the foot. I’m not sure I can rationally discuss this right now…

by Grime on Jan 25, 2010 8:06 AM CST reply actions

Packallday, it's not what you're saying it's the fact that you are saying it NOW.

Or perhaps more so, you’re trying to debate objectively with people who are emotional right now. Go away for a week maybe?

I think most of what medicineball has posted here is the result of his current state of emotion. All Viking fans are hurt and disappointed right now, as the current flavor of fan posts clearly indicates. But we had a great year, we played a great game and came up short because we didn’t take care of the ball. As much as it hurts to see the calls go the other way in OT, we should not have let it get to that point. When you fail to win decisively you leave yourself open for bad calls, fluke plays, etc.

by Jshore on Jan 25, 2010 9:43 AM CST reply actions

I can understand your perspective here but the reality is football is just a game. It’s not life or death, and people will be over the loss in a matter of days. Someone being emotional doesn’t justify them making outrageous claims.

by packallday555 on Jan 25, 2010 11:30 AM CST up reply actions

Statements born of emotion are frequently outrageous.

Sometimes the only “justification” is the simple fact that they were driven by the emotion. Expecting more than that can lead to longterm damage in personal relationships, but in this case I guess all you risk is an endless debate with irrational minds…

by Jshore on Jan 26, 2010 8:37 AM CST up reply actions

I commend all loyal Vikings fans

We had a great year. I totally agree with everything the poster wrote. I also feel that the late hits on Favre were planned and the team should be banned from competing in the Super Bowl. Shame on the Saints. How can you hold your heads up after witnessing that? Where do the refs get their credentials from? A bubble gum wrapper? Helen Keller could have done a better job. I also think the NFL should look into what constitutes a touchdown…….GOOD GOD!!!!! Anyway, thanks Vikes. I am looking forward to next year.

Mostly Agree

A few points I don’t though…. Don’t care about the Pack, Saints, Cowboys, or any of the rest. No point dwelling on the past, it’s time to look to the future.

On officiating, there was some questionable stuff going on, but we can argue it back and forth without ever reaching a conclusion. Moot, because it wasn’t the deciding factor in the game.

The time to complain about overtime rules is before you lose to them. Not after. You go to the dance, you take your chances.

I haven’t seen a lot of poorly behaving Saints fans, but then, I’ve made a conscious decision to avoid the DN during Viking games and to blow off the posts where the trolls are rampaging. Let someone else feed them, and the fair-weather fans. Most of the Saints fans I did see, earlier in the week, seemed like stand-up guys and I appreciate that.

There’s one barb you missed and I’m going to add it to the heap because it was a constant aggravation; the sports analysts cheerleading for New Orleans. They even started referring to the Saints as “America’s Team”, I swear those guys are the most mealy-mouthed partisans I’ve ever seen. They’re like little girls, the way they gush over the flavor of the week (no offense to little girls).

Other than those caveats, I agree with all your support to the Vikings players! Thanks guys, for a great ride, and hopefully next year will be even better :)

That game was awesome to watch as an outsider......

this game was a good definition for the better team doesn’t always win the game. I thought the Vikes played better and its a shame it comes down to 2 plays that stand out to me.

1. The Farve play near end of game. I was screaming at the TV ……run and just gain the 6 or 7 yards for a field goal. He didn’t hear me :( . I hated seeing him lose.

2. The pass interference call in OT was a joke. The receiver actually pushes off a little then falls back with arms thrown out and gets that call. Im not a Vikes fan, so people can call me a whiner , but that play was big. The refs should swallow the whistle on that one. I watched many times on the DVR and I am still looking for the contact by the defender. Those played big parts in the outcome and ashame that it came to that in this game.

You guys had a great run and for sure a good future. Good luck next season :)

Roddy White?!?

Jennings and Driver are both better than Roddy White. Now and in 2007 when Favre chucked that critical pick against the Giants in the NFC championship game. As for the OL, the 2007 GB OL gave up just 15 sacks all season, tied for tops in the league. And didn’t you guys have a pretty good OL this year? Yet somehow you’re in the same boat now that we were after 2007… what’s the common factor there?

Sure it would be nice not to have wasted the pick on Brian Brohm. But Rodgers? No, we’ll keep him, thanks. The guy dropped about 15 – 20 picks lower than he should have and TT took him because he offered the best value at the time of the pick, just like Minny did with Moss back in the day. Sure, he threw a bad pick in the playoff game and fumbled in OT, and that sucks. But given a choice between a 40 year old great QB whose thrown crucial picks in losing playoff games after the 2004, 2007 and 2009 seasons, and the great young QB (yeah, I said it) whose done it just once, I’ll take the kid, thanks. And 8 or 20 months from now when you guys find yourselves wondering if T-Jax is a legit NFL QB or if you should give up a first rounder+ for McNabb, you’ll wish you had young QB like Rodgers. You just won’t admit it.

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jan 26, 2010 5:42 AM CST reply actions

Hate to say it Ted

but your wrong. Not about wanting Rodgers but about not admitting it. Many of us have already admitted we would love to have Rodgers on our team. So, while we do spew venom at the guy most of us respect his ability.

by Grime on Jan 26, 2010 7:49 AM CST up reply actions

Look I love Favre. He’s great…he’s fun, he always knows where everyone is, he’s charismatic on the field, etc. but if you ask me to choose between a young 25 year old Pro Bowl QB with back to back 4000 yard seasons with the youngest team in the league supporting him and a 40 year old QB who posts about the same numbers on a veteran team with (yeah I’ll say it) more experienced and sometimes better talent around him…I’ll take the 25 year old. I know Favre had an incredible year, but the fact of the matter is that if you just sub out Rodgers for Favre last year, the team STILL doesn’t make the playoffs. The team lost 3 of its 5 best defensive players and had the worst D in the league…you don’t win championships with the worst D in the league. If Favre was a Packer this year, he would have looked like he did at the end of the Saints game after week 4 already…he wouldn’t have survived.

The fact is that if we take Favre back after giving Rodgers that job, he’s gone…Think of this as Leno vs Conan…NBC kept their Favre and Rodgers said @%$% you and left. That is exactly what Rodgers does if we do that to him…they liked what they saw in him and honestly they were right in their decision. As a fan, I was SOOOO sick of the offseason of BS I was getting from Favre. One season isn’t so bad but we’ve been enduring it for like 4 or 5 and it wears you down. Favre if like a 25 year old trapped in a 40 year olds body but in a sport that is going to catch up soon.

When you guy signed him, I told my Viking fan friends (and I live in MN and ALL my friends are Viking fans) that he’s great and he’s going to take you far, but that when the competition is up in the playoffs and he’s pressured he’s going to make those throws that can cost the game. He’s ALWAYS done it. You have to take the good with the bad with Favre. After how 2007 ended I honestly didn’t believe Favre could put together 3 games in a row where he wouldn’t make THAT throw…he proved me right this year. This is how it almost always ends with him…but given the choice to have him or not have him throughout the greater part of my fandom with the Packers (he came to the team when I was in high school) my life as a fan was WAY better with him there than it would have been without him there.

I can’t wait for the day he stops playing for your team so I can call him ours again but if you want me to say TT made the wrong choice, you won’t get that out of me because I wholeheartedly believe he made the right choice. He chose the future.

It really is the truth. It’s not something all of us Packer fans just fabricated because we were mad to see him go to the Vikings. Many of us have watched him do it since the late 90s’. When games get close, he feels like he needs to make a big play. This isn’t always a bad thing, and sometimes it works out for him but other times it does not.

that we wouldn’t have even been in the post-season without him; I’m certain we wouldn’t have been this year. If given the choice of no Favre and no post-season, or Favre and one hell of a ride for the season and a heart-breaking playoff loss, I’ll take Favre.

I don’t think TT made an incorrect decission. I think it was a hard one to make and he tried to pay Favre off so that Favre wouldn’t go to another team. Later on alll things because ugly and gross much like waking up saturday morning after being at the bars all night Friday.

Seriously, if we could have gotten Rodgers instead of Favre this year how many vikes fans do you think would have taken Favre? + 1000

I will take Brady, Manning, Manning light, Romo, Rodgers, Stafford, Sanchez, Ryan, Rothlisberger, McNabb, Rivers, as well, in no particular order. To be a great team in the year 1985+ era a team needs a great quarterback. Farve is one of the best. I just hope we keep finding great QBs to lead the Vikings.

T.J.

T.J.-T.J. You are man. If we can’t have Farve I know you can
Sage-Sage- You are our man. If we can’t have Farve I know you can
Booty- Booty- Were you are man? Houston loves you more than this fan
Thigpen- Thigpen- Where did you go? To Miami to work on your tan.

OK, You go ahead and try and rhyme Thigpen

Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes

Packer fans did it too...

… right up until he retired. He’s so much fun to watch play and he makes so many great plays that it’s easy to fall into the habit of forgiving him everything. Unfortunately, he’s internalized those reactions, and it’s frequently (though not so much this year) contributed to his poor decision making. Just my opinion.

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

Need solid refs

I thought that these playoffs crews were better. Viking & Packer fans both got hosed.

Update

The NFL has admitted that the shot at Favre’s knees/ankles should have drawn a flag for personal foul.

Gregg Williams now suggests that he wants to injure Peyton Manning

Gregg Williams should be banned from the NFL. As I said before, he is a coward and an animal.
