Losing all respect for the Saints, G. Williams

Stay connected for news and updates

This year, the Saints were a feel good story. Winning games with great offense and an opportunistic defense, plus the rallying behind the team in a city that is apparently still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, which struck nearly 5 years ago. Seeing the fans and how good they were, many of us figured that we'd have no problem cheering for a team that such a great group of people adore as much as they do the Saints.

Then the game happened. It's not uncommon to want to rattle the quarterback a bit and make him second guess, that's probably in the plans for approximately 32 NFL defenses. However, after watching the game, and the hits taken, I firmly believe that the Saints weren't just trying to rattle Favre (and others), they literally wanted to knock him out of the game. Favre took his fair share of hits, but he also took some really cheap shots. He wasn't the only victim, as Reynaud also took another cheap shot on a punt return. Gregg Williams and the Saints almost got their wish, as Favre was visibly hobbled, and the Vikings were looking at the possibility of *gulp* Tarvaris Jackson under center.

If the Saints (and Gregg Williams) didn't try so hard to present themselves as ruthless, cheap, dirty players, I probably could've found it in my heart to want them to win the Super Bowl. After the pathetic and disgraceful games I saw their defense playing in trying to headhunt and knock players out of the game, I hope they get absolutely destroyed in the Super Bowl.

Rant over. Wait 'till next year.
