Long time listener, first time caller

Do you ever get frustrated at the play calling? How many times have you seen AP having a great game and then he doesn't get the ball in the fourth quarter? Have seen Shianco tearing it up and we ignore the underneath throw when we need it? I remember one game late in 08 where we through a screen to Ksauce and it went for 10+ yards twice early in the game and we have yet to see that play again.

In the chess game that is coordinating, the defense wants their guys in position to make a play, not knowing exactly what is coming on any given play. The offense wants to confuse the defense and catch them out of position. I don't see much of the cat and mouse in the vikings play calling. When I watch a team like the Patriots or the Colts, a lot of their success in the passing game is getting their receivers open with well designed plays. Sure their guys make awesome plays, but when thy want to move the chains they do simple things to disguise who is going in which direction to confuse the defense.

I very rarely see the vikings try to disguise what they are doing. And from my arm chair I know exactly what this team should do. That's why I am one of 32 people on the planet to hold the title of NFL head coach. Ooohhh..... Maybe I'm just some guy with an internet connection that wants to see more from the vikes. So I'm gonna throw a couple Ideas at you.

First, I would like to see the vikes run a trips/bunch route. If we put Berrian, Harven, and anyone else in a bunch the other team is going to have to role covreage to that side. Then put shianco on the weak side and AP in the back field. Or put Ksauce on the weak side with AP in the back field to make them respect the run. I think most teams in the league would have a hard time stacking the box and covering a trips set. After Favre sees the coverage, he will know whether to run or pass.

Second, if Chilly wants to run an offense where we line up strength for strength and do nothing to cause confusion, where is our 3 TE set? We have huge bodies on the offensive line. We have 3 great big blockers in Ksauce, Dugan and Tahi. In a league that is pass first, If we put all the beef on our roster on the field, I think defenses would have a hard time holding up. Quick athletic linebackers are not gonna like getting hit over and over again by the people we could put on the field. I think teams would need to go into some kind of a goal line stand and AP could either take it up the middle or more likely bounce it outside and run away from the 8 lineman they have on the field.
