Now, for those who regularly read my post you know I am the most optimistic person in the world. Realistic, yes, but I always tend to view the glass as half full rather than half empty. Either way its the same glass of water.
So is our team half full or half empty? The answer comes in two parts after I jump over for the benefit of our mobile user friends.
At the beginning of the year my expectations for the team were at best a 12-4 record. I said at the time that to only lose 4 games would mean losing only once to the Bears and the Packers on the road and then to only lose two games against New England, NY Jets, Dallas, New Orleans, Miami, Giants, and Philadelphia. So, it is not surprising to me that we have lost three games to the teams I listed. With GB's injuries we might be fortunate enough to win the away game against GB. We might be getting better offensively. We might go on a roll. However, it does appear that Brett Farve is not the Brett Farve of last year. Maybe he will end the season better than he started. This is the risk in having an aging QB. It is the risk in having Brett Farve. I don't condemn the Vikings for having him. I won't condemn them for not bailing on Brett and not bring in another QB. A bad Brett Farve is still a wise, experienced, QB. If his arm is ailing I hope it gets better. I mean this is what a fan does. Hope for the best. Root for your team. Our defense is very strong and likely to get better. They have and will keep us in ball games. Each week will be exciting. Each week will be gut wrenching.
Now my expectations are that we could lose two games to New England , Dallas, Giants, and Philly and one road game in the division. This would give us a 10-6 record with everyone pumped up going into the play-offs. No matter how we do it, I think 10-6 is a very tough record for us to achieve. I certainly hope we do. I certainly will root for it each week. Our division is much weaker than anyone really thought. The Packers have been hurt by injuries. I don't wish that even to my fiercest rival. But it is true. They can also lose 4 more games and be 10-6. The tie breaker could be the difference this year.
All in all I am not pushing the Panic Button. We are still competing each and every week. We have not been blown out and probably won't be. We do score points and probably will score more down the stretch. I am just rooting for a little luck. A little magic that will propel us to the play-offs.
I do know this. No one can tell why this season has occurred this way. Early injuries have haunted us. Our QB has not been as good as last year. With a football team, 10 minor mistakes ( penalties, ect) can determine a season. Especially in close games. This season is far from over. Its really not to far off of what was originally considered great. So buckle up. Get ready for a lot of close games. And for heavens sake. Lets root this team to victory.
