Why is Randy Moss a Minnesota Viking??

So... I'm catching some NFL Network today and I'm watching Bill Belichek get grilled by the press on Randy Moss.  I am struck by the 'digging' going on by the press... looking for the 'dirt' on why the New England Patriots would ship Randy to Minnesota for such a 'small' price.  It's overt that they want to hear that he was a problem in the locker room, a problem with the coaches, or a problem of any kind...

Which got me to thinking... Why is Randy Moss a Minnesota Viking?

My opinion after the jump

Facts:

Randy is in the last year of his contract with New England.

Next year is a 'Wild Card' with the League and Players still wrangling on a contract.

Randy is still one of the top 10 (or fewer receivers in the NFL

Fuzzy Facts:

Randy had a great relationship with his head coach in NE

New England is going in a new direction with their offense and their team

Randy did not factor as highly into the 'new offense'

Randy wants to leverage his final season to showcase himself for free agency and get his big payday.

Opinion:

Randy, in the last year of his contract went to NE and asked for a contract extension and his big pay day, based on his past production and current leadership role with the team.  NE, with a fiscally sound response, took a 'wait and see' approach with his request, or flat out said 'no'. Randy becomes less of a factor in NEs offense as the team makes some changes based on their current make-up, skills, and competition.  Randy is unable to be the Big Name he wants to be in 2010-2011 to find a FA suitor to write him the big check.

Randy's close relationship with BB (as reported by BB) comes into play... Randy goes to BB and says that he understands the direction the team is going and understands that his role WILL be different, and smaller, but also establishes his 'business case' to BB about 'selling' his skills to another team.  BB, out of respect, asks Randy what he wants... Randy tells him he wants a trade.  BB asks where he wants to go.  Moss says Minnesota.  BB picks up the phone.

Now, Randy Moss can be 'The Big Show'(tm) in Minnesota.  A team with a struggling offense and no apparent #1 GO TO receiver.  He can light it up with Favre chucking him the rock and has a real shot at going deep into the playoffs with a great defensive team... with a possible Super Bowl ring at the end of the road.

What better way to demonstrate your skills to a potential new team!

I'd love to hear your opinions!
