The official fire Brad Childress thread

The '98 loss to the Falcons did not break me.

41-0 did not break me.

12 men in the huddle did not break me.

This coach HAS broken me.

Never have I seen something that I love as deep as the Vikings been raped and mishandled so poorly by one man.

Brad Childress is the worst coach in Viking history.

I hereby retire my Viking fandom untill Brad Childress is fired in the most humiliating manner possible.

Great idea

I personally think we should strengthen our roots and bring Frazier up from defense to the whole team. Let’s not forget how our last d-coordinator has done since leaving (Mike Tomlin)

Keep Frazier for years to come. Fire Childress now and let’s move on from this horrible excuse of a head coach

Dungy yes-Gruden would have to start the season

I have had Grudens playbook in my hands and it is a manuel for flying a 747! Getting the guys to play his system takes an entire Spring of OTA’s and camp. Gruden would cringe knowing he would have to go with the terminology and sets that are in place. In the meantime, he would be going nuts trying to get some of his stuff put into place in a half season.
Dungy would be able to add and mimic what is there with a bite of his own home cooking.
Gruden might be the most likely successor if it is not Leslie. If he could handle small does of John combined with Chilly’s stuff -WAIT! What am I saying. Add to run, run, pass from a single set offense. Maybe not that hard after all
Boy! I know one thing. He would heat it up in Winter Park so fast the snow will melt.
Maybe just the type of guy to take over if you want to go on a winning streak

On that note...

I offer my sympathies as a Pats fan. Even if you hate Belichick with the fury of a thousand suns, you have to admit he’s a competent coach.

And believe me, you learn to appreciate something as simple as basic competency in coaches when you look at the completely batshit decisions Childress makes.

As storied a franchise as the Vikings deserves better in its front office. Even the janitor would know you don’t trade a valuable draft pick for a player like Randy Moss and then cut him 4 weeks later unless he’s actually trying to take people hostage and sell their organs or something to that effect…

Fire him NOW

Everyone said last year that anyone with half a brain could have won with the talent we had on the team. Childress couldn’t and can’t pull out wins for us, therefore he has less than half a brain and needs to be fired.

Leslie Frazier is READY to coach and having him at head coach would bring the possibility of Dungy as team President.

by Purpledork on Nov 1, 2010 3:04 PM CDT reply actions

Dont understand it

Frazier had an opportunity to get us the ball back yesterday and it didn’t happen. The defense is every bit a part of the reason for our struggles this year.

"We have a right to be proud, for in our veins flows the blood of many brave races who fought as the lion fights for lordship. Here, in the whirlpool of European races, the Ugric tribe bore down from Iceland the fighting spirit which Thor and Odin gave them, which their Berserkers displayed to such fell intent on the seaboards of Europe, ay, and of Asia and Africa too, till the peoples thought that the werewolves themselves had come."

D is playing uninspired

is that Leslie or the total picture of the team. Seems to me the total lack of inspired play.. One minute the 2 sides play like gang busters. Then it seems like a different froup dresed up in the real players jerseys.
Head coach motivates the entire team. Frazier had this team busting the run long before this bad streak. It is not Leslie but the attitude of the team.
remember, it was the defense that put us in position for the last 2 North titles. It wasn’t Favre alone. It was goal line stands that were for the ages.
I don’y yhink Frazier changed anything. It is the entire aura surrounding the team

The man was hired to ‘restore integrity to the Viking’s franchise.’

Bill Parcells turned a 1-15 Dolphins team into a 11-5 AFC East-winning franchise in one season. Granted, he was nominally GM and Tony Sparano was HC, but that polar change had Parcells fingerprints all over it.

As it is, the Vikings are looking like they’re going to need a new O- and D-line (or at least newbies to learn the system) and a franchise QB, and a new HC. Funnily enough, Parcells has a pretty good history of finding just those kinds of guys…

Just a thought.

Reid had the cojones to handle three NFL-starting-quality QBs on his roster at once in the last couple of years; Childress can’t handle one.

Then again, I’m not sure Childress could properly handle a piece of paper with the name of NFL QBs written on it without trying to throw draft picks and/or signed waiver documents at it.

by MichaelC on Nov 1, 2010 5:07 PM CDT reply actions

Well let's hope for the best...

… I was not one to blame everything on Childress, but no longer. Too many weird things and I think he lost the team now. He’s got to go.

If he didn’t tell upper management about this move on Moss, then it is a no brainer to fire him now. I also thought we should just wait out the season to fire Childress, but no more.

I wonder about that “didn’t inform upper management” though. I have a hard time believing it. Moss has a contract with the Vikings, not with Brad Childress. I can’t see how he could waive Moss without getting his big bosses to agree and sign on.

If it’s true that sounds like gross mismanagement/incompetence. We should hold on to Moss and dump Childress. I’ve never seen a team/coach implode so fast.

It’s like a friggin black hole that’s sucking in the whole universe.

by HammeroftheGods on Nov 1, 2010 5:14 PM CDT reply actions

If the FO had been informed

Moss’ name would’ve been on the waiver wire today.

Could’ve been something where Klink sounded off to the players first, then went upstairs and began lobbying the FO. But do you really put “gross incompetence” past this HC?

by Shawn Gillogly on Nov 1, 2010 5:32 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess now...

… I don’t put gross incompetence past him. Not sure yet. This all happening fast based on rumors, innuendo, and no one knows really what’s going on.

I do think that if Childress acted unilaterally and “waived” Moss, that 1) can’t do that by himself, and 2) would get fired if he did.

If that happened, Chlidress acting alone, and Wilf doesn’t fire him, then we are lost because the owner is incompetent. I’m not ready to go there yet.

I’ve said all along that Childress is the worst coach the Vikings have had since Les Steckle. Time to let Zygi know what the paying fans think of this move of dropping Randy and his bone head coaching moves. But the list of ineptitude has been long…

by Shawn Gillogly on Nov 1, 2010 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Long overdue... but now the fans have to suffer.

I have to pass blame all around, to be fair. The owner has to shoulder blame for making the bad decision on hiring (and extending) Childress. The team performed well the past two years, but it was truly in spite of the lame coaching. Bevell and Childress’ “Kick Ass Offense” never really clicked, unless Favre was pulling off well-timed miracle throws. The lack of planning for the future always angered me, and the ridiculous insistence that Tarvaris Jackson was a starting QB enraged me. This latest bonehead move of bringing in Moss on a rental (we needed that 3rd round pick!) only to CUT him a month later, is one of the all-time lamest moves I have ever seen in the NFL. Ego and paranoia seem o be Childress’ Achilles heel, and this ought to cost him his job.

I would fire his ass NOW. Promote Frazier and see how the team responds to him the rest of the way. They are going nowhere anyway. This franchise is in real trouble whether fans want to accept that fact or not. I sincerely hope sanity returns soon, because the fans deserve a lot better than this. The Vikings need a franchise QB in the worst way. Imagine this team building around a guy that would remain the starter for a decade. I cannot think of many other franchises that have treated the key position in football like it was a year-to-year open audition. I’m so sick of Childress and his horrible game management and asinine statements. I need a damn interpreter to understand what the fool meant.

Randy Moss is the winner in this latest mess. He would have been miserable as the ship went down, which it is inevitably doing. Now, another team can sign him and hopefully he will end his Hall of Fame career on a winning team.

If the owner doesn’t fire Childress immediately, I will lose any remaining faith that we will ever see a Super Bowl victory in my lifetime.

not only is Brad Childress an incompetent coach, but he CLEARLY has no clue about the fans of the Minnesota Vikings either. You bring back a guy that the fanbase has wanted back for a long time, and you CUT him a month later? After he’s taken one of your best young players (Percy) under his wing? Unacceptable, even if Belicheck or Dungy were stupid enough to do something like that, they no longer deserve any respect or credibility. And not only that, but claiming the fans in Philadelphia are better, and more deserving of a title because they, as he so eloquently put it, have been through much worse than Minnesota fans have.

Brad, you have lost touch with your team, the FO, and you were never in touch with the fans, I hope the door hits you in the back of your empty skull on the way out the door

You spend a third round draft pick just before the waiver wire to get a guy who you think will save your season only to cut him later because he dislikes you and is saying bad things about your (lack of) coaching ability, then say nothing about it to the FO.. You moan for an entire offseason to get your HOF QB to come back from retirement. You cover up Sidney Rice’s hip injuries to help lure said QB back. You take a 12-4 team numerous fumbles and an interception away from the Super Bowl to a 2-5 team most likely out of the playoff in a surprisingly-weak division. If you are not the composer to this rhapsody of error, you are the conductor of it. As a Bengals fan, I know incompetence. I watch its effects on the field every Sunday, trickling down from owner to coaches to the players themselves.

Brad Childress takes the incompetence cake and devours it. Then he washes it down with the milk of stuidty.

by Doc Scratch on Nov 1, 2010 11:35 PM CDT reply actions

And in the meantime...

That 3rd round draft pick is now New England’s, Moss is free to sign with anyone (including, say, any of Minnesota’s divisional rivals and/or upcoming opponents), and Terrell Owens, who was free to be had at the start of the season, is chugging away fairly productively in your Bengals outfit.

You just know Brad Childress is the guy who always picks the worst country to start off with in Risk, or tries to buy the Railway Stations in Monopoly.

Doesn't mean T.O.'s salvaging our season.

I don’t even know who to really blame anymore. We just suck. Period.

But yeh, bad play all around on Minnesota’s F.O.’s part.

That would be an awesome choice.

I sign to fire Childress, but not renouncing my fan-ship.

You could set Dungy up in a house in warm, sunny Florida...

let him phone in all his playcalls, coach via webcam and make team decisions by email, and he’d still be more competent and efficient than Childress.

At least the only place we have to go now is up. Unless Chilly decides to get rid of AP while he’s cleaning house to. Maybe Chilly is McCombs love child or something.

A Pats fan, but currently a resident of MN.

The state and the team definitely deserve better.

Fire him…preferably with something large caliber and untraceable.

The only time I'll give up my fanhood would be if the teams moves.

But that being said, Fire Childress!!! Every fan I know up here in northwest MN and northeast ND agrees.

That article has just about everything I felt happen in it

I didn’t think Moss’s press conference was terrible (I only read it though so may not have heard the tone of voice) the things he said were true! They should have used his knowledge, they shoudl have worked with him. People in the locker room were shocked. Obviously some people will have different opinions than others. I wish to GOD I could ask Kevin Williams, Winfield, Adrian Peterson, Brett Favre and Steve Hutchinson their unadulterated opinions on this. even taking 20% of the plays off Moss was still helping the team. unbelievable. He didn’t like BBQ, fire him… Now if he was a distraction in the locker room that would be different, but you still have to deal with it. You know it’s coming! Gah Childress I hope you die.

A SUGGESTION

How’s this for an idea? Give Brad Childress to Al Queda. He can be their coach. If so, the war on terror would be over soon! They wouldn’t even know how to swing from their monkey bars after Chilly got to “teaching” them how to do it HIS way.

by kagey on Nov 2, 2010 8:01 PM CDT reply actions

Moss not only one possibly praising Belichek....

Percy Harvin “In the second half they made a couple of adjustments, and I think we played into their hands,” he said. “They were ready for a couple of our plays there in the second half. We didn’t do a good job of making adjustments. That’s why (Patriots coach Bill) Belichick is as good as he is. He makes those adjustments.”

The logical next step — to find out where that problem is coming from — was taken, and Harvin smiled and stammered to answer. Only when a bystander offered the phrase “team” to Harvin, did he come up with something tremendously benign.

“It’s a team effort,” he said. “It’s all of us.”

by Adam Sorum on Nov 2, 2010 9:31 PM CDT reply actions

Sounds like Harvin is getting axed next

Him and Favre both stated opinions contrary to the party line after the Wednesday press meeting.

A vote for Gruden

I say keep the rest of the FO, except Chilly. Gruden would light the fire we need!

And lord no on Parcells! The game has past him by as evidenced by Miami’s so-so record and team.

FIRE HIM

Hire Frasier before we lose another defensive coordinator to go win himself a superbowl just like Tomlin. I bleed purple but Childress has me questioning my faith in a team I have loved since before I could walk

fire him , but i will always be a viking fan

I don't want Childress to get fired.

As a Raider fan, he’s one of the only coaches in the NFL who I can say with authority is worse than our head coach.

I want the season to turn around.

The problem with that is Zigi won’t fire Childress if that happens. So I guess we are going to have to lose a couple more soon. So be it. We need to rally behind Frazier and hope for the best.

by iowaron on Nov 5, 2010 3:15 PM CDT reply actions

i dunno....maybe not...

it seems that it would have been reactionary for wilf to fire chilly this week before the az game right on the heals of the moss fiasco. it also seems like even if wilf wanted to keep moss, he would only be creating a really uncomfortable situation and sending signals that this is not an organization anyone would want to come and join.

so, i think he was probably in a position where he had to allow the release of moss, due to the complications of trying to keep him. he would have definately had to get rid of chilly immediately if he were to have kept moss.

but, now moss is gone and his contract has been picked up. and now he is doing his due diligence to find out from the players what has been going on. if he can find a way to release chilly, not have to pay him for his recently signed extention, get frazier inserted into the head coach job, and have some confidence that the players would embrace the change and feel that the drama could die down…

…then i wouldn’t be surprised to see wilf get rid of chilly after the az game regardless of the outcome of the game. perhaps he is putting the pieces in place right now for a swift change that he can make at the drop of a hat.

in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.

the season can’t turn around unless Chilly gets fired.
