Ask Revenge of the Birds

Maybe this will help take your minds off of whatever the hell Childress is doing right now.

You guys know how this works, I'm Joe from Revenge Of The Birds, and I will answer any questions you guys have about the Cardinals. If anyone from RotB comes by, they will also answer some questions. Feel free to drop by RotB and make your own version of this post.

Some of the basics:

Larry Fitzgerald is still a beast, but none of our QBs can consistently get him the ball. If Warner was still here, Fitz would be smilin', and so would all of us in Arizona. Steve Breaston has played well this year though, he had over 140 yards on Sunday.

Max Hall shows some promise, but he is a rookie and rookies are prone to boneheaded throws. Hall made one of those on Sunday that got him benched. Derek Anderson can make some great throws, and then on the next play he can throw a Pick 6 that makes you want to throw him off the roof of University of Phoenix Stadium.

Kerry Rhodes > Antrel Rolle. Paris Lenon is also a suitable replacement for Karlos Dansby

The offense has been inept, mostly because it likes to cough the ball up. The Defense has just been inconsistent.

I miss Kurt Warner.

Ours did bennifit from having a HOF Quarterback fall into his lap when he came here.

But he has done a great job here. Some people are frustrated this year, but Whiz has changed the mentality of the team. Best coach the team has had since they came to Arizona.

Ours actually made Warner better

Chilly looks like he is having some kind of power struggle with Favre.

Great timing :)

Of the Cardinals games I have watched this year, I have not seen much consistency from game to game on either side of the ball. It seems like the only consistency that I have seen is that they are always in a high scoring shootout. Their defense seems to be either giving up big plays or keeping the team in the game with defensive TDs. Who the heck knows about their offense – the quarterback carousel is all over the place and is there even an everyday starter at running back?

In other words, what team are we going to get on Sunday and how do you see the Card’s strengths playing out against the Vikes?

by noblepete on Nov 1, 2010 6:45 PM CDT reply actions

I would normally be worried about the pass rush you guys have

But they haven’t registered a sack in 2 or 3 games or something like that. Allen and Edwards could have a big game since the weakness of the O-Line is at the Tackle position.

I think that they should become a team that runs the ball 35-40 times a game. The Offensive line is more suited to running the ball, and they have shown that they can do it with the three headed monster that we have (Beanie, Hightower, and LaRod Stephens-Howling), but they just get away from it in some games especially the ones where they fell behind early.

The entire team is just too damn inconsistent to predict what is going to happen. But I know that they won’t dominate the game on Sunday like they did last year when the D shut down Favre and Peterson and Warner threw 3 touchdowns.

Shootouts?

We’ve been victims of a couple machine gunnings (Atlanta and San Diego). The Tampa game was a race only because our rookie QB threw two touchdowns for the other team, otherwise I think that one belonged to us. Same problem in Seattle, absolutly abysmal play from the kid in a game we should have walked over the Seahawks in. Now we are back to Errant Anderception at QB and I sadly believe that he is our best option.

by hadrarius on Nov 3, 2010 9:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Can you tell us what the hell is going on with out team right now?

Cause if not, we just don’t have time to pay attention to you at this moment.

Sorry dude. Thanks for coming over, and normally it’d be much appreciated. But right now we are knee deep in s*** and don’t have time to discuss Sunday’s game. Our season rides on today’s “game” between Moss and Childress.

I don't know

I thought that Favre would fall off a little bit, but not like this. And I was expecting the Vikings to be at least a 10-6 team.

Are you concerned that he seems to be actually getting better the last four games (albeit from a very low standard, you might argue the only place to go from there is up). From about halftime of the Jets game, his game seems to have picked up (except a couple dumb throws in Q4 10 days ago). I think we even dominated the first half of the last two games, and if anything our D is becoming more the ? than our O.

Of course that all happened with Moss on the field. Who knows what we revert to now. Literally, who knows. Can you tell us? ;)

by puddnhead on Nov 2, 2010 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

I know that Harvin played better when Moss was brought in and Harvin got to play in the slot

Without Moss, I think the offense won’t be as good because he opens everything up for the rest of the offense. Just like Fitz does here, and what All Day or Rice (when he was healthy last year) does for you guys. It will certainly be easier to defend against the Vikings without Moss around.

Now, Favre could have a good game like he did on Sunday, or he could go back to being bonehead Favre and throw a couple of picks like he did in Arizona last year.

offensive line, defensive line

You guys dominated us last year. Same personnel? Same dominance?

by medicineball on Nov 1, 2010 7:10 PM CDT reply actions

they lost a lot of players

karlos dansby, antrel rolle, their defense is not good as it once was, but they shouldnt be underestimated, they have a solid nucleus on defense, and can create a lot turnovers.

by eltwentyone on Nov 1, 2010 7:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Again, Rhodes has been a big upgrade over Rolle this year

Lenon has filled in nicely as well. The Defense had a few bad games, but they are starting to play better. The offense is the one that had the major falloff.

Again, I asked about the defensive line and offensive line, not the linebackers or safeties or secondarymen.

by medicineball on Nov 2, 2010 5:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh right

On the O-Line, Faneca has been alright at guard, but he is weak in pass protection. Levi Brown and Brandon Keith also have issues in pass protection. Deuce Lutui and Lyle Sendlein are in their same spots and they are the best players on the O-Line.

As for the D-Line, Dockett has been disruptive but he hasn’t racked up a lot of sacks yet (I’m guessing Jared Allen has been the same), Campbell has two sacks but he hasn’t been as good as he was last year. Alan Branch worked his way into the rotation and he is playing very well right now at DE. Then at nose you have a rotation of Bryan Robinson who is 35 and he is basically there until Dan Williams (1st round pick) gets used to playing nose. Williams does seem like he gets better each week too. You don’t really notice the nose tackle very much, but he seems like he is doing a good job.

How come you guys have had such a let down on defense? I know you lost Dansby and Rolle but like you said, you’ve got pretty good replacements for both. Did you lose any other guys.

Also, being a Badgers fan I love me some O’Brien Schofield. I read that he was activated this past week. Did he play at all, and if so how did he look?

by packallday555 on Nov 1, 2010 9:00 PM CDT reply actions

I'm optimistic about Schofield

He only played special teams though. And I was amazed that he is ready to play right now, I thought he wouldn’t be ready for another month.

The only other guy we lost was Bryant McFadden, but Greg Toler has been an upgrade.

by JoeCB1991 on Nov 1, 2010 11:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Huge hopes for Schofield.

Our starting OLBs are both 33. We need the kid to develop big time.

The let down on defense has in large part been due to having five new starters, four of whom are new to the team this season, one a rookie. It has not been an issue of quality players. Rhodes is a serious upgrade over Rolle. We made out big there. Paris Lenon has been a solid inside linebacker. He’s made a couple big time plays. Rookie Daryl Washington has started since week one and looks to become every bit the player Dansby is if not surpass him. Now we have Gerald Hayes back from the PUP list at ILB too. Joey Porter hasn’t been the answer as an edge rusher but he has picked it up the last two games. Greg Toler took over at corner and has played better than his predecessor McFadden did.

We traded McFadden back to the Steelers during the draft. Bertrand Berry (olb) retired. Chike Okeafor (olb) was not resigned. Hayes was out for the first six games. He had a fumble recovery for a touchdown in limited play his first game back.

by hadrarius on Nov 3, 2010 9:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks for the response. I love Schofield, and think he’ll end up being a player. Of course, I’m awfully biased too being a huge Wisconsin fan. Had he not torn his ACL I think he would have went much sooner in the draft.

So do you think your defensive struggles have just been due to inexperience? Sounds like you have quite a few new starters. Do you think things will improve as they continue to gel?

by packallday555 on Nov 4, 2010 12:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, just everyone trying to get used to new personnel is a probably a big part of it

Not inexperience as much as getting it together as a group.

The only guys you could hang the inexperience tag on are Dan Williams and Daryl Washington, our first two picks in the 2010 draft. Greg Toler is a first year starter but he was with the team last year. They have played much better the last three games than the first four but are not consistant. They will dominate for a quarter, then let the other team stroll down the field on them. They will deny anything in the red zone but give up the big play. They make huge plays but can’t stop the offense to secure the game. But honestly I only see them getting better as the season progresses. What they are really in need of is a dangerous edge rusher. We’re all hoping Schofield is that guy.

by hadrarius on Nov 4, 2010 8:09 PM CDT up reply actions

I forgot all about Williams, how he he looked?

Thanks!

And honestly I don’t know if the team will be able to pull itself together for this game. Depends on the locker room, if they were behind Moss going then it might be a good game. If they like us are wondering what the heck is going on then I think you’ll beat the living piss out of us.

Darn. I guess we will have to try harder

Maybe we can ask Jared to attempt to actually physically hogtie Derek Anderson — you know, with an actual rope & all — after one of his sacks.

Would that finally push us past the Cowboys?

On second thought … dang, foiled again! Jared would have to actually get a sack, for him to be able to attempt that!

Plan B, anyone?

Cowboys #1?

I guess that would hold true but emotionally I’d say we at Revenge of the Birds get WAY more enjoyment from watching the failure of the 49ers this season. So the highest you could even get on that list would be #3 and maybe not even that high.
