Pat Williams Wants To Play "A Couple More Years"
While much has already been made about the Vikings' old quarterback not returning next year, Minnesota's old defensive tackle sounds like he's not done yet.
I think we have all come to terms that The Favre Who Cried Wolf won't be back in 2011. But should the Vikes keep Pat Williams, already the oldest defensive player in the NFL, around next year?
I wouldn't mind keeping Phat Pat coming in to plug up the middle on rushing downs. Heck, I'd want him here just to hear some of his great sound bites a few times each year. But he's not much of a pass rush threat these days, and at 38 he won't be getting any younger (or skinnier). What do you think? Leave your comments below.

Keep him.
We need help on so many other positions anyway. Would be nice to not worry about his position. Phat Pat, old and slow at 39 might be a lot other younger players.
agreed
but gradually phase him out with a replacement, let him rest on some plays. Find one at convenience…replace him when his play is worse than the new guy. he is old, so he should understand the business…cruel i know
that old run D, she aint what she used to be..
..neither is phat.. seems kennedy deserves to start..i say put the old grey mare out to pasture..

it's been great
good run pat, time to ride off in the sunset. We need to start the transition now with the defense. I agree we need to see more of the young guys.
He ain't the wall he used to be
He already comes out on many downs but he is still better than most DTs out there against the run. I’m fine with him coming back because that’s one more year we can go without having to draft at that position (better yet now that we’re down a pick in 2011).
I think I just heard Jimmy crying…
Playing THIS year would have been nice...
Other than the unannounced retirement of Bernard “Useless” Berrian, nobody on the Vikings has disappeared worse than Pat Williams. Even Jarred Allen, sans the mullet that gave him strength, has at least made some tackles, knocked a few passes down, etc. Williams is still there, for his massive bulk doth blot out the sun. But his run-stop production is no longer the stuff of legend. Now, it’s the stuff of auld lang syne. Pat no longer has the stamina to anchor the D-Line all day long. Other guys fill in, but clearly the Vikings need to find another sumo to plug up the middle.
I agree with NCViking: It’s been a good run, Pat. Time to hang ’em up.
Kennedy has played quite well when given the chance
Still young enough and has grown into the position. I love pat on goal line and D against short 1st down stuff. If he stays it is a lower salery and role player. Give kennedy his time B$ we lose him too

I'm not seeing the need to pay Pat Williams based on his performance this season.
Or more accurately, lack thereof. This looks like a case of a guy thinking he still has it when he doesn’t.

Pat changed his mind?
Oh no,he changed his mind. How selfish, what a waffler, I think we need a Pat williams flip flop day.
Possible Pat will stay, but not looking very likely
Much as I love Pat Williams, I think he’s going to be playing for another team next season. Next season has so many unknowns, I suppose things could change and Pat might still be a Viking, but the collective bargaining agreement is up in the air and a lock out is possible, the Vikings very likely will have a new coach, and there are higher priority players for the Vikings to sign to contract extensions.
