We're all mad about being 3-6, but let's put this into the perspective of the Vikings' injury situation this year, and compare it to last year. Without going into every one, let's talk about the injuries.
When you look at the injury picture, it's clear that the Vikings are in much worse shape this year. The biggest difference is that last year, rookie Jasper Brinkley filled in decently for EJ Henderson. This year, our substitutes have not filled those empty shoes as well.
Injuries 2010
Favre - hampered greatly by injuries
Rice - unable to play so far
EJ Henderson - slight decline in quality of play
Cedric Griffin - is missing most of season due to knee injuries
Percy Harvin - thus far, missed most of training camp, but only some practice, and no games due to migraines.
Has been somewhat hampered by bumps and bruises.
Chris Cook - missed some games due to injuries
John Sullivan - missed most of the year with calf injury
Shiancoe - missed some with an injury
Jaymar Johnson - missing entire year on IR
Injuries 2009
EJ Henderson -lost for season in Cardinals game
Pat Williams - missed a game or two
Antoine Winfield - missed half of the year, and otherwise was hampered after injury sustained in Ravens game
Cedric Griffin - lost to injury just before the last defensive series of the season
Percy Harvin - missed a lot of practice and a game or two due to migraines
McKinnie - slightly hampered by foot injury
Hutchinson - slightly hampered by shoulder injury
Other personnel changes
2009 - Erin Henderson missed part of the year due to suspension
2010 - Vikings draft Chris Cook, and trade Benny Sapp for Greg Camarillo
2010 - Vikings trade a 3rd round draft pick for Randy Moss, then cut him a few games later
2010 - Vikings lost Chester Taylor to free agency, and draft Toby Gerhart
2010 - Vikings traded Rosenfels and Reynaud for late-round draft picks
This year. nobody has filled Rice's, Cedric Griffin's, or John Sullivan's shoes.
So maybe we need to first consider the injury situation as we figure out what has gone wrong so far this season.
Go Vikings!
