Vikings Officially Eliminated from Playoffs

Well, it's been a fun ride, the Super Bowl is ours! but it looks like this year is finally over.

I mean, it's not like the Vikings have some easy games ahead, or maybe some home games.  Right?

Star-divide

Oh, what's this I hear, the Vikings still have the Cardinals, Packers, Bills, and Bears at home.  OH!  My bad...

Too bad the Packers are around!  They will win out the rest of their games, and we'll be left behind.

I mean, it's not like the Packers have any hard games ahead, right?

Oh, what's this I hear, the Packers still have the Falcons, Patriots, Lions (don't laugh), and Vikings on the road?  OH!  My bad...

Too bad the Bears are still around!  Oh, wait, they're starting Jay Cutler?  Never mind...

Oh, what's this I hear?  The Lions are playing better?  I guess we should give up, folks.  The Lions are still around...

Sure wish we had an all-pro QB!  Oh, whoops, we have Favre.

Sure wish we had an all-pro RB!  Oh, whoops, we have Peterson.

Sure wish we had an all-pro receiver like Moss.  Oh, whoops, Rice is coming back.

No need to play the rest of our games, folks.  I'm sure that an 9-7 or 10-6 Vikings team won't make the playoffs.  After all, the NFC is the elite conference, right?  We don't hold any tie-breakers, right (thanks for beating GB, Cutler *smile*)?

Took me a while to get it...

but that is only because I do not have a sense of humor. Nice post.

Hate to say I'm right...

But our season has followed my “Pessimistic Vikes Fan” Post. We’re 2-5 and I said we finish 10-6 (With a win in washington) but 9-7 is realistic.

...add #4 to the mix and see what you get... Championship.

by Macdaddy4508 on Nov 3, 2010 4:41 PM CDT reply actions

hate to be a downer but....................

i hope we lose 4 or 5 more games, with the offense looking awful, because that’s the only way we can free ourselves from childress. go cardinals. skol vikes.

by skolvikes on Nov 3, 2010 5:28 PM CDT reply actions

Hope your joking skolvikes because a real fan would not say that about his team NEVER GIVE UP DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORDS THAT ARE COMMING OUT OF MY MOUTH NOW SKOL THE HELL OUT OF HERE :)

by cali viking on Nov 3, 2010 7:07 PM CDT up reply actions

A real fan would want Childress Gone

Any real fan has to realize that Childress will NEVER win a SB. He came close to proving me wrong last year but managed to F it up in the dumbest way possible. Have you EVER a seen 12 men in the huddle penalty? I havent. In the most important moment of his entire career he blew it.

GO CARDS!!!!!

the worst thing that could possibly happen right now is a 3-4 game winning streak because then we would be stuck with chilly for at least another year. Hope you enjoyed watching AP these last few years, because I guarantee he will not resign if childress is the coach. hell he probably wont resign even if childress is fired, because he doesnt want to waste the prime of his career on a rebuilding team with a new coach. But what do I care at this rate the team will be in LA in 3 years anyway. Lions are my new team until chilly is gone.

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Thomas629 on Nov 4, 2010 4:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Thomas if you are a real fan then you have lost it BECAUSE no matter what you dont want your team to loose I would take more BS coaching from chilly for a SB win this year any day your right chilly sucks but if we pull it together and make a run and you dont want to be a Vikes fan because of a fucking coach there’s the door and you can have the lions !! But dont come back!!! And for all the real Vikes fans out there SKOL VIKES!!!!!!!!!

by cali viking on Nov 4, 2010 7:08 PM CDT up reply actions

you dont get it

I would LOVE it if Childress won a super bowl. I said all last year that it was great they were doing good, but childress is an idiot and that he would NEVER win a super bowl.

Then, for about 30 seconds there, right after the beautiful pass to Rice, and the 15 yd run by chester taylor put us in field goal range. I thought to myself, HOLY SHIT, Chilly is gonna prove me wrong! We are gonna go to the super bowl! It was a very happy moment. Then I saw a flag and heard “12 men in the huddle” and I came crashing back down to reality.

Childress will N.E.V.E.R. win a superbowl

Honestly, division's still up in the air.

NFC is terrible this year and the North ain’t what it was last year.

by Doc Scratch on Nov 3, 2010 5:33 PM CDT reply actions

Love the optimism.

I think 9-7 is still realistic and since the NFC sucks this year that could be good enough to get in the dance. If our team ever starts performing close to their potential we can still make some noise!

by CanadianViking on Nov 3, 2010 5:55 PM CDT reply actions

Dreaming!

This is a 4-12 team in its current state. We have an aging quarterback who was begged to come back to play. His level of play has been less than average. Last week he throws no picks while injured and the Media jumps all over and says his play was elite?? Please, for 20million, that should be standard.
D=Shyt! There is no way, we can win a game at this level with NO-ZERO-ZILCH-FINITO Pass rush! 3 games without a sack with the level of talent on this squad is unacceptable @ best. Our secondary is average and our top CB is old and his best attribute is he hits hard! Yeah after a 20 yard gain!
Running game- AP, is running at an elite level this year. But , where is it when it matters most! 3-1 or 4-inches, and BAM, it becomes non existent. Unacceptable
Receivers- Harvin.Harvin,Harvin thats it people! Now, with moss gone, Harvins numbers will come back down to earth. Even if Moss took plays off, or played half heartedly. He forced double coverage, and opened up every other mediocre WR we have.
Special teams???? mediocre
COACHING- Our coaching is the most imcompetant in the league. Childress has single handedly lost 3plus games alone. Green Bay 100% undispouted, all Childress and lack of challangeing plays. To duplicate what I said in another post. He is the only coach in the league that will call a timeout when we should be in hurry up mode. He will give the opposing team 20 minutes to reveiw a missed call in our favor, allowing them to challange the play, therefore reversing the call.
I will have ZERO faith in our squad, its chemistry, and the ability to run the table in a series of must win games to have any chance of post-season play. It makes more sense now to lose the remaining games, and select a real quaterback in next years draft, if there is even a next year!
I am the most die hard vikings fan I know. I love my team. I have not been so embarrassed and disappointed in a team with this much talent than I am today!
Funny how a coach that has a history of alienating players, could not get on the level of Moss, whom has been very solid off the field for the past 3 years plus. This lack of success with Moss is all the inability to relate, motivate, and coach such a player. Moss will thrive in Tennessee, only once again showing the ineptitde of Childress.

Dito Cali

I tell ya. There is a different feel as I prepare to watch this week. I got so worked up last week and this poor start has drained me. Then I think-if I, don’t in my heart, believe we can come back, how can I expect the players too.
I am believing our guys are real pro’s and ready to get things going. It will be a hostile crowd. Too bad that will be the home crowd. If the boo’s for Chilly are not taken by the players as for them. Careful fans. Cheer loud for the players as you never have B4.
Keep the faith Vikings fans. It will be hard for our guys. Don’t make it harder.

4 and 12 is a stretch

The Vikings would have to find a way to lose to reach that feat. Think about it for a second. You have Buffalo on the schedule yet. You have Green Bay and Chicago at home. The Lions in Detroit. Washington and Arizona. You think the Vikings will only win two of those games? Really? I would say they have the ability to win most of them. That would put them pretty near the .500 mark. If they are able to squeeze out any others against some of the tougher opponents like the Giants then they could reach 9-7 or 10-6.

Now all of this changes if the Vikes start to pack it in for this year ala the Cowboys. While I wouldn’t discount this from happening, I think they would need to basically shit themselves this week and next week before that would happen. I really don’t see that happen against the Cards or the Bears (although I’m suspicious of the Vikings ability to pull out a victory in Soldier field though).

only if they somehow lose to ARI at home..

…will i then start to believe 4-12 is a possibility..

but i predict 4 sacks, 2 picks for the D…am i crazy?

Yeah..

About that all-pro WR. Rice isn’t going to be back for another couple games. That could put us at 2-7. Don’t think we’re making the playoffs then, because running the table would be highly unlikely.

I mean, I like the enthuisiasm, but… probably a bit too much at this point. At 2-5, this team is more or less cooked.

by Frost on Nov 3, 2010 6:57 PM CDT reply actions

All I'm saying is...the pieces are still there

Maybe Chilly will pull together a few wins, like he has somehow managed to do the past couple years…

by mjmrad on Nov 3, 2010 7:33 PM CDT up reply actions

seriously!

If they can focus, it is completely believable that they win the next 4. 6-5 is a nice record to get to with 5 games to go. If they can get the job done!

by lightweight on Nov 3, 2010 10:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Sid might be back faster

unlike another WR we just cut, Sid has a work ethic. Nothing would be better than to see the Vikes run a ploy and we find out Rice healed faster than was reported.
Think on the good things folks. Maybe this was another reason they let the cancer go.Maybe Sid is getting better faster than is reported.
I need a happy thought.

by CitrusFLViking on Nov 3, 2010 11:29 PM CDT up reply actions

No more high hopes from me at this point...

I am currently just a hopeful wait-and-see, and I am relieved that this week’s game won’t be on the regional TV schedule out here in VA. Watching another nail-biter this week would be hazardous to my wide-screen, and even though I would hardly be to blame, I doubt the real culprit (Chilly) would be willing to pony-up the bucks.

by Jshore on Nov 4, 2010 12:29 AM CDT reply actions

i was thinking same thing!

i live in NJ and all the televised games in my area , they all LOST!.. the only wins were the 2 that WEREN’T on.. must less ulcer-provoking to just get the highligts from NFL Redzone updates..

maybe we can pull out a 7-9.

all i care about is:

making chilly disappear.
seeing t-jack get playing time.
getting improvement out of the d-line., i.e. sacks !!!
watching AP get some big games in spite of the o-line.
seeing certain o-linemen write their ticket outa here.
seeing ap, percy, ej and chad make it to the pro bowl.
(although ej and chad are gonna need to step it up, imo).

i think making the play-offs is a reach, but not impossible.
but, i’d rather see a new head coach and start re-tooling
the team this year by playing some of the players who may
have a future here.

i’d rather sit pat and kevin a lot more, play kennedy, guion,
robison and everson a lot more. also give jasper a bunch of
reps. move winfield over to safety to get him familiar with the
position…go resign colt anderson, too, he can play.

put degeare in there at rt to get him some reps (to hell with loadholdt),
start throwing the ball to cam a lot more, start using some 2 back sets,
try lining shank out as a wr with dugan in to block. keep percy in the slot
at all costs. use lewis and baskett til they break, cuz they are simply just
disposable players anyway (run them over the middle til their heads get
popped off).

in short….get your ass in the sweepstakes for a top draft pick !!!

p.s. whatever we do, we just can’t lose to the puckers or bears at home,
other than that…the losses won’t bother me if we are looking for new ways
to line up and play for next year. who knows, we just might win a lot more
than we currently are.

p.p.s. i want chilly gone before thanksgiving.

in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.

by jethrophet on Nov 4, 2010 1:12 AM CDT reply actions

I agree with a lot of this... couldn't really care less about TJ though since I think he's a lost cause.

Otherwise, we need to sit the non-producing starters that have gotten us to 2-5. They play like their entitled instead of hungry. Smack em in the head with the fact that their jobs are in jeopardy and maybe they’ll remember how to play football. You spot-on about the D-line, and I just posted pretty much the same thing in another thread. Jared, Pat and Kevin don’t deserve their spots based on their play thus far this year.

4 and 12 Chilli gone and take Tjack with

They pull out a 5th maybe..I see the Cards taking the wind out of the dome and revealing
just how bad the Vikes need to re build.
