According to Adam Schefter (and roughly a billion other people on Twitter), Randy Moss was claimed off waivers by the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee was 22nd in the waiver wire order, meaning 21 other teams passed on him before the Titans.

Well, at least the Vikings are no longer on the hook for his salary this year. It's anyone's guess as to how he'll do in Nashville, but I think it's a good move for a team that just lost Kenny Britt for a while.

Titans want Randy, but does Randy want Titans?

If Moss is not happy with the team that claims him, he’s "willing to sit out the season," a source close to Moss told The Herald.

That could lead to a difficult situation for any team that claims Moss. So what does he want? "He wants a ring," the source said.

Sounds like he'll report

According to PFT:

Source close to Moss tells us that he’s expected to report to Tennessee.

Yeah, I assume they must have talked to him first. Would be foolish not to, with this guy.

I find it interesting that Bills (#1 priority) picked up Merriman, but 21 teams passed on Moss. Expecially Seahawks at #16 (?), who actually signed a different reciever todya, Ruvell Martin. That’s right, Seahawks wanted RM Ruvell Martin more than they wanted RM Randy Moss at receiver!

by puddnhead on Nov 3, 2010 3:55 PM CDT up reply actions

I just read on PFT that 31 teams passed on Moss. Titans claim was the only one made.

Moss is basically getting the TO treatment now. He’s going to have to either put up big numbers for the Titans or he’s going to be signing a bunch of one-year prove it to me deals. No more straight cash for this Homey : )

Prior to the Titans acquiring Moss

I was readin up on an article where Fisher was criticizing Childress.

Basically his quote went something like this.. .“You don’t use a 3rd round pick to pick up a player and dump him 4 weeks later, you just don’t..”

Now the Titans have a threatening receiver w/ a great run-game.

i think this is as good as he could have hoped for.

the titans are a good team that can really benefit from moss, if moss just plays. they have a great head coach, great qb’s, a great rb, and their receiving corps is nicely upgraded with moss’ abilities. hopefully that is a good stable enviornment for him to be in.

remember, the titans are the team that stepped up and made a play to get phat albert haynesworth off of the redskins hands. they handled vince young’s weird behavior a few years ago. i think they might be able to manage the randy factor in the locker room.

i think they have a solid shot of making the play-offs and doing well. having the moss threat can make them more dangerous and open up more opportunities for chris johnson due to the double coverages he will draw.

good luck randy….i hope this is what you wanted.

the titans have some really big games coming up...

Miami Dolphins (at Miami )
Washington Redskins (at Home)
Houston Texans (at Houston)
Jacksonville Jaguars (at Home)
Indianapolis Colts (at Home)
Houston Texans (at Home)
Kansas City Chiefs (at Kansas City)
Indianapolis Colts (at Indianapolis)

5 divisional games in a tight division, plus miami and kansas city (both tough conference games).
randy has a chance to be a real difference maker. RANDY, SHUT UP AND PLAY HARD !

wouldn’t it be something if he faced the jets in the playoffs (3 games w/ 3 diff teams in one year !!!).
and even better, if the titans then face the patriots in the playoffs (played for them this year AND

Back in the day, it cost the Patriots a first-round draft pick to secure Belichick (more or less – it was a punishment of sorts). Result? Best first-round draft pick the Patriots organisation ever spent.

Perhaps you Vikings fans should look at the 3rd round draft pick Childress burned on Moss as the cost to get a new coach, too?

Easy

How can you blame him .. so he cursed about some nasty food .. so he had a bad attitude .. this is the nfl not the Ms america contest .. football players are mean, nasty and sometimes stupid.. What happen in the locker room has nothing to do with what happens on the field .. Moss told the truth Childress is a joke off a coach bottom line .. Moss want to win a superbowl ring and Childress dont have the ability or the know how to get that done .. he couldn’t do in in Philly when he was the offensive Cord. and he couldn’t do it for us last year .. Tomlin his assistant left the Vikings and went right away and won a superbowl .. How many does Childress have .. ..

by VikinginCalifornia on Nov 3, 2010 7:05 PM CDT up reply actions

I saw half a Randy Moss effort against NE

I saw that one play that could have been a TD if it had been anyone else, over, and over, and over, and over…… Maybe you choose to ignore that play? How about the pass in the endzone against GB where he could have won the game but the ball went through his hands? Not Randy’s fault? The ball has been thrown his way and he has done nothing, or practically nothing, with the opportunities. He was supposed to come here and make us “special” and hasn’t done that. Even with the few “go” routes he has had he doesn’t get open. Not worth the $ or the attitude you described. That is clear.

by PurpleJesus on Nov 3, 2010 8:40 PM CDT up reply actions

That's arguably still on Childress...

Because that’s what Moss was doing in New England. The guy had 5 stone-cold drops compared to his 9 receptions in 5 games in a Pats uniform. He had 3 TDs in a Pats uniform this year, but dropped a further 2 passes in the End Zone.

He drew double-coverage. But he didn’t do a hell of a lot else.

He turns up to Minnesota, and does pretty much exactly the same thing for the Vikings. It’s not great play, but it’s exactly what he was doing in New England in the 4 games of the season thus far.

The ball has been thrown his way and he has done nothing, or practically nothing, with the opportunities.

Perhaps. But Childress only had to look at NE gametape to see the player he was trading for. He traded for Moss, who performed just as he had in NE, and apparently Childress was baffled by it. That on Childress – the guy traded for what seems to be damaged goods, at least in terms of the 2007-era productive Randy.

Token southern hemisphere guy - 14,688km from Foxboro. That's 9128 miles, for you heathens.

by Comedic.Sans on Nov 4, 2010 5:53 AM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

Childress doesn't "share" too much in the press

What makes you assume that’s on “Childress”? Apparently he felt he gave him a chance and Randy didn’t respond. Hence he is gone showing the rest of the team that sort of action is not acceptable. How is Chilly wrong? He admitted the mistake was trading for Moss. I give him credit for standing up and saying that.

Now that doesn’t mean I don’t want Chucky instead. I have seen enough of the offensive guru (really?) that has no imagination.

I did not mean that Favre should have said something. I just meant that someone of Favre's stature did not...where would Vince Young stand?

Read below:

The embarrassing episode was met with displeasure by at least one Vikings player.

“Nobody said anything except for one who said, ‘Shut the (expletive) up, Randy,’ " Tinucci said. "If (Brett) Favre would have had a ball, he would have beaned him right in the head. Favre looked at him like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ "

Get A Clue

You people act like Moss quit on the team .. get a grip .. Childress quit on the team .. Moss tried to tell the coaching staff how N.E plays .. But the lame egomanic Childress wouldn’t listen .. I bet Jeff Fisher will listen and use the talents that Moss has to offer.. Watch this great running game the Titians have triple in yards… And watch Allday get stuffed at the line… 3 and out .. This is a Childress series .. run, run, maybe run or short pass.. then punt .. High school plays .. Lets face it our season is over .. I just hope Peterson, Harvin and Farve survive this season without major injuries ..

by VikinginCalifornia on Nov 3, 2010 6:43 PM CDT reply actions

Moss did quit on the team

Didn’t even try on many plays. Have you watched any highlights or just ignored what you wanted to?

As for the offense… it had been getting better and even being more creative. Unfortunately now with Harvin possibly hurt we may have to go back to your description of the offense.

by PurpleJesus on Nov 3, 2010 6:56 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

He did better here than new england

Was he quitting there too?

He averaged more yards a game than everyone on our team, of course besides Harvin. That’s with the one game where he only had a catch or two.

I’d say our whole damn offensive was quitting more than he was.

by loldotcom on Nov 3, 2010 7:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Not true...

4 weeks, 2 TD’s here. 3 weeks and 3 TD’s in NE…. 13.4 Yd avg here, 15.4 yd avg there….That is ALL this year!

Our offense has been getting bettter simply because Favre has been getting more accurate with his throws. He has NO time after the snap so is learning to deal with that. Nothing to do with Moss.

by PurpleJesus on Nov 3, 2010 8:45 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

Not quite...

Moss played 4 games in New England.

He had 3 TD catches, but he also had 2 drops in the End Zone – and bad ones at that.

He had 9 receptions for 134 yards @ 15.4ypr in New England, but he also had 5 flat-out drops. Those drops were, as far as I can remember, all short passes of the slant or hook variety. That would’ve dropped his receiving average down, except he didn’t actually receive them.

Token southern hemisphere guy - 14,688km from Foxboro. That's 9128 miles, for you heathens.

by Comedic.Sans on Nov 4, 2010 5:57 AM CDT up reply actions

You are nuts if you think Moss didn't have anything to do with our offense getting better

Did you even see the Pat’s game? They put a CB and safety on him AND they had the safety playing 20-25 yards off of him! No one does that. That allowed Harvin a lot more time before that safety was able to even get into the play. To say Moss didn’t help the team because he didn’t catch the ball all the time is a fallacy. If you want him to catch the ball call plays that pull him out of double covereage…

amazing.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

by Grime on Nov 4, 2010 10:55 AM CDT up reply actions

He underperformed, though...plain and simple

He may have drawn extra coverages but whether or not that really, scientifically and factually, led to improvements for other players is nearly impossible to quantify from a practical standpoint. Too small of a sample and FAR too many variables to take into account.

The best thing is for neither side in the argument to try and use this argument (either to support or refute points) because it’s (again) impossible to verify. There are plenty of other reasons that could account for higher numbers or results for other players (motivation, coverage, opponents, etc…)…

So all that leaves is what Moss, himself did…and what’s most embarrassing is that a future HOF player (sadly) couldn’t make the effort to show his beloved original fans why he once was amazing. Funny that other Pro-bowl quality WRs can still make plays when double-covered but not Moss when he was here. Interesting how that works.

by Wytefang on Nov 4, 2010 11:13 AM CDT up reply actions

What I saw..

…was a guy double teamed, just like Sidney was last year, and can;t hold a candle to Sidney. I saw a guy who had a bad attitude. I saw a guy who played half the time. I saw a guy who dropped a ball right in his hands in the endzone against (Boys or Pack). I saw a guy who was a cancer. Any questions? ;-)

If anything is hurting this team

it’s hardly just the coach (or if it even IS the coach at all). It’s over-paid Professionals that simply haven’t performed as expected. It’s an under-achieving D-line with no sacks in the last 3 games and an inconsistent (at best) O-line and a porous secondary.

It’s typical of the average sports rube to whine for the coache’s head when things go south and the coaches know that they’re going to take the heat due to their leadership position but I’ve always found it laughable how simplistic the average rube’s view of playing on a sports team can be. There’s always so many more factors than just, “Da Coach sucks man.”

I know what you’re saying, and I actually agreed with the Pats’ decision to trade him given that he wasn’t “Randy Moss” any more (and got more than my fair share of flak for it).

But do I think Moss will be a resource for Fisher in the way he wasn’t a resource for Childress? Very much so.

He’ll get his TD looks – he’s still a blinding quick 6’4" WR, and that’s hard to stop in the End Zone – but Fisher isn’t a headcase enough to ignore what a future Hall of Fame WR says about strategy or hints or whatever.

Because he’s lost a step on the field and more importantly with his attitude. Maybe IF he decided to try he could be decent still but overall, every other team refused to put in a waiver claim for very good reasons. On his reaction to Moss’ release:

“Shocked. A little disappointed. I liked Randy being here. He brought a lot of things to the table. Definitely was a leader in his own right. He spoke up and said things when things needed to be said. He gave great speeches. He was quoted a lot of times in meetings. I think he was a great teammate.”

But it looks like a lot of the playmakers liked Moss (and probably what he did to open up the field for them).

Looks more and more likely this team will quit on Chilldress sooner than later.

Thank you!

People get wrapped up over a rediculous catering issue. Not one of his past team mates in the Pats have said anything negative about him. Many of them are coming to his defense. This does not sound like a guy who was such a dick! Did you ever hear people talk about TO this way?

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

Actually other than QBs TO gets a lot of love from former teammates.

I’ve heard many compliments about TOs work ethic and football smarts just like I’ve heard the same about Moss. The difference between the two is that TO has a good work ethic and a big mouth whereas Moss doesn’t have the work ethic but doesn’t open his mouth nearly as much as TO. From what I’ve been reading lately it seems that the catering story isn’t as big a deal in dropping Moss as it’s that he was loafing in practice and games to often. His being a dick is just a way for the team to save a little face with the fans in my opinion. To be honest most elite athletes are dicks as it comes with the territory of being an alpha-male that is physically superior to almost anybody they meet. It doesn’t excuse the behavior but I wouldn’t be surprised if %70 of the NFL players act like what us regular guys consider dicks.

A salute to Chilli anyone?

If Zygi corrects his mistake and fires Chilli do you think any of these players will stand up and give him a salute, give him praise when he is gone? OK TJ you raised your hand as you stumbled to get up. Everyone else why are you smiling ? Whats thats song your singing say Na na na hay hey hey good bye na na na na

I want the VIKES to win but if they lose to the Cards (and believe me right now this bunch could lose to anyone) Zygi needs to be giving Dungy a call.

Good riddance

Glad his lame ass is gone. Now I gotta swing down to Tinucci’s tomorrow (Fri) and take advantage of their offer – trade in a Moss jersey or item and get a free lunch. Sweet! :D

Wish I lived there

This sounds like it will be a lot of fun (as well as a good deal):

When an athlete acts like an asshat, the best thing a 52-year-old business can do about it is generate a little publicity. That’s what Tinucci’s Restaurant in Newport (396 21st St., 651.459.3211) plans to do in response to Randy Moss’s recent diss of the buffet they catered for the Vikings.

The Star Tribune reports that Tinucci’s will serve all-you-can-eat ribs, chicken, carved beef, a 35-item salad bar, and dessert—the same meal offered to Moss—and diners can decide for themselves what they think about Moss’s statement: “I wouldn’t serve this to my [expletive] dog!”

The meal will be free for the first 50 people who donate their Moss gear between noon and 2 p.m. Friday, or you can just pay $8.40, in honor of Moss’s jersey number.

Pat Reusse and Phil Mackey will be doing their AM 1500 radio show from the restaurant Friday from noon to 2 p.m. The offer is not available at the Woodbury location.

What a cool story!

I guess maybe Tinucci’s owe Moss a big thanks for the free publicity!

Ok I understand a lot of people are anti Moss right now

However, I just can’t blame him like I guess the rest of you are. I’ve stated this before and I guess I’ll do it again here. He’s the best receiver currenlty playing the game. Not stating he’s the best this year but he’s got the numbers that are only beaten by Jerry Rice. When you have a receiver of this caliber on your team one would think you would treat his opinions and insights with respect. It seemed that Childress did neither. Now when am on a job and my employer treats me with disrespect and does not acknowledge what i can do for the business I will leave. I don’t think anyone would have an issue with that. If you have a bad manager you have the option of finding another job.

In football you don’t have that option instead you are forced to work for someone no matter what. Moss was not having an issue with Childress over pay. He was having an issue based on respect, respect that Moss is rightfully due.

I understand the catering issue, yeah Moss had issues. If you were a solid manager/coach you would work with your player to understand the underlying issue. I have yet to hear one Viking actually state Moss was a cancer. I have heard several state that they were shocked and suprised and angry at Moss’s dismissal those Vikings were Favre, Harvin and Berrian. I have also heard many Pats and ex Pats that played with Moss speak of him in only good terms. As an excellent team mate, a leader and someone they care about. This doesn’t jive with what Childress is occluding to. I say occluding because nothing Childress has stated has shown any valid reason for terminating Moss from the team.

Now think about that. Childress has said nothing on his reasons. Not that the catering was a problem not that he wasn’t catching passes. Nothing! Meanwhile others are stating that he was good for the team. I’m having a hard time believing in Childress right now. Moss was managed poorly he resented it. So would you I garuntee it.

Moss is Moss a great receiver, a good team mate (as expressed by many including Chris Carter) a benifit to the team. Childress had very little to no reason to terminate him other than his own hubris and lack of ability.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
