Bite Me, Scheduling Committee

Let's pretend for a moment, shall we? Let's pretend that Favre didn't completely screw us and Adrian ran to the left on that 4th down goal line play in the Week 2 Miami game, and instead we won.

Good? Got that cemented in the old noodle? Okay. Now, open up a new tab on your browser and pull up the Vikings schedule. Let's look at our losses for the 2010 season, and I'm going to point out a few key things that we may have forgotten or overlooked these past few weeks.

Our losses this season are as follows: at New Orleans, at New York Jets, at Green Bay, at New England.

Now, tell me with 100% certainty that under the circumstances this season -- the circumstances being we are without Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin has not been entirely 100%, we replaced Chester Taylor with Toby Gerhart, Cedric Griffin is gone, Brett Favre is nearly as old as my father, and there is nowhere near the magic this year as there was in '09 -- that we "should have" won those games. Can you take that into account and be entirely sure? Me either.

Don't get me wrong, I am just as upset as the rest of you about sitting here post-Week 9 and being a 446-yard passing masterpiece away from 2-6 and out of the playoff picture. But I am also a realist. I look our losses thus far (remember...we beat Miami...) and those four teams have a combined 24-10 record!

Should a team with Superbowl expectations be okay with going 0-4 in those games (and let's not forget, we only lost each game by an average of seven points)? Absolutely not. But I'm not going to sit here with my jaw on the floor in utter disbelief that we are 3-5.

As a true Minnesota Vikings fanatic, through and through, bleeding purple, I realize that the possibility of going 11-5 is still there. Don't believe me? Call up Jeff Fisher and ask him how it felt to have one of the best second-half-of-the-season revivals for a mediocre team in recent memory...with Vince Young at the helm, no less.

Please, please, I beg of all of you: do not start this "it's unlikely," "there's always next year," "well, this was our chance and we've blown it," "I can't believe we're 3-5" bull s**t already. You have to take into account the difficulty of the competition the Vikings faced the first half of the season, and keep your hopes high for the remaining seven weeks.

Need a little boost? Here's one: Bears, Redskins, Bills, Lions, Sidney Rice.
