Vikings Barely Inconvenience Giants In 21-3 Loss In Detroit

And, with tonight's loss, the 2010 Minnesota Vikings are officially eliminated from post-season contention.

Really, not a whole lot else needs to be said, because the Vikings really didn't put forth an effort worth mentioning for most of the evening. Chris Kluwe was awesome. . .everyone else was pretty bad.

Ted will be in with the Stock Market Report here before too much longer, I'm guessing. Me? I'm going to try to forget that this week in Vikings' history even took place.

Discuss everything and drown your sorrows here, folks!

first vikings game i have ever quit watching

after running with toby and the drop by bernard followed by the horrible snap was all i needed to shut it down.

I stuck with it to catch a glimpse of Webb. I’m convinced he’s the only QB that comes back next year, and that was the only interesting aspect of the game in the 2nd half.

by cyberuck on Dec 13, 2010 9:54 PM CST up reply actions

I would hope so

Because, as of right now, he’s the only QB under contract to come back next year.

Webb deserved to play the entire 4th

Opportunity lost to see what he could do under pressure. Last series he makes a pin point pass and a run ala Vick. Why,why, why, didn’t we let him play the rest of the game?. I was actually hoping I would see one of those young Tommy Kramer comeback games. We’ll never know.
All I know is I saw more in 6 plays with Webb than I have in T[jax carrer. It was obvious the kid wanted to show what he has, T-Jax could have proven his critics wrong.
2 bad snaps? Sure but what about regrouping your troups and making throws (other than easy ones) and show you can let a mistake roll and carry on. Glad t-Jax wasn’t leading us up Omaha Beach. He would have a lot of excuses for swimming back to the ships.

by CitrusFLViking on Dec 13, 2010 10:53 PM CST up reply actions

no

webb will be here next year. we have camp and preseason we really did need to see (and will need to see again) what tjack can do. while he is still here. without having to pay him more money to be sure.

two quarters was not enough to be sure. a single game isn’t even enough

by puddnhead on Dec 13, 2010 10:58 PM CST up reply actions

T[Jax has had more ops than anyone deserves

and never shows anything but inconsistancy. Are you kidding. Audition the kid. We have seen T-jax enough

by CitrusFLViking on Dec 13, 2010 11:00 PM CST up reply actions

i remained on the fence about jackson

for quite a while, but to be completely honest, puddn, i saw the same mistake-prone, nervous, inaccurate, unorganized jackson i have seen before and will continue to see. he looked identical to the games he played in ’98, to the game he played in philly in the playoffs. he is the same as he ever was. he will never be any better. i gave him the benefit of the doubt after sitting behind favre to see what he could learn, but the fact of the matter is, he learned nothing.

it is the same modis operandi. he does reasonably well when he is put in after someone is injured, but when he takes the majority of the snaps with the first team for the entire week at practice, the entire offense comes out flat and i think that all starts with the QB. they call them field generals for a reason. if he is like a fart in a skillet, stands to reason nobody else will be able to keep a thought in their head.

he does fine when there is no pressure or expectations, but when it comes down to it, when it is all on him, he CANNOT handle the pressure. i wanted him to succeed just as much as the next person, because really, he could have been an integral part of the franchise. the fact is, he is not, and we must move on. done and done.

I piss people off on a fairly regular basis. I cherish my right to speak my mind, whether I sound like an uneducated savage or not. I've never been accused of keeping what I think a secret, nor will I ever. Don't like it? I don't care.

by IABerserker1 on Dec 13, 2010 11:14 PM CST up reply actions

Webb time!

We learn now if he is a QB or WR. T-jax is neither, Sign troy Snith, draft the kid from TCU and let T-jax find a new home-in the UFL

by CitrusFLViking on Dec 13, 2010 11:18 PM CST up reply actions

i saw all that too. but these were really, really weird circumstances.

i also have the benefit of seeing favre’s development up close. it took years of continuous play. holmgren actually had to be talked out of benching him in 94.

i probably doubt nearly as much as you that tjack should have a place in our future. but we need to try to be sure. we can’t be premature, when we still have opportunity to confim/verify.

by puddnhead on Dec 13, 2010 11:19 PM CST up reply actions

I understand Puddin

but jax got his shots early and even given the starting job. The rest of this season has more to show us as to what to do with Webb rather than what to do with T[jax. Je will be #2. One way or another we can’t wait anymore for T-jax to “prove” himself.
We can keep Jax if ya want. But for 3 gamesm let’s get a look at where Webb is as compared to where jax was at his age.
We lose nothing but a higher draft position

by CitrusFLViking on Dec 13, 2010 11:34 PM CST up reply actions

No way.

He’s had tons of time and tutelage (more recently) under the awesome #4, even. He’s had plenty of chances. It boggles my mind that some Viking fans are still clambering to give him more chances to suck – something he’s awesome at, if nothing else.

Good riddance – can’t wait until that Chilly experiment is tossed out with the trash. He’s been utterly awful 99% of the time. I like his attitude and professionalism but as far as delivering when he’s on the field he’s an abject abysmal failure.

I know we're in the minority

But I’m with you Puddnhead. You can’t evaluate a player on such a short look, particularly one surrounded by as many injuries and bizarre circumstances as this one was.

Despite a promising start, tonight was ugly. I’m not going to pretend it wasn’t. But Jackson needs to be evaluated on what he does from a larger sample size. Let Jackson start the rest of the way and evaluate him after that.

by Cobra312004 on Dec 13, 2010 11:37 PM CST up reply actions

Are you insane?

He had several seasons already to suck away losses for us. He’s already proved how much of a joke/non-factor he really is.

You really like bending over, don’t you, Cobra? :P I mean, seriously, this guy’s simply awful and that’s not even remotely based on tonight. He’s had the QB with the most experience currently playing in the NFL around to teach him last year and he literally has learned nothing, by all indications.

Just wow.

by Wytefang on Dec 13, 2010 11:43 PM CST up reply actions

Sorry Cobra

That came out harsher than it was intended (though I did put a little emoticon in there to indicate that i was teasing). I just think we’ve wasted SO much time on this horrible project known as T-Jack, already. I can’t stomach wasting anymore time at this point. :( :(

dear god

a fifth year rookie needs more than two near full games for an evaluation when he looked just like his old self. I was curious to see him show us something tonight, he failed and will continue to fail. the ship has sailed, t-jack is toast

by redhearring on Dec 14, 2010 12:26 AM CST up reply actions

Point with Webb

If ya wanna see him in action now is the time. He blows it, we went down trying. But what if???? What if he just happened to pull of3 good performances? You still draft a QB as high as you can get ( I think we’ll find one in an early 2nd pick) 1st priority is the best available OT,OG or a tough free safety

by CitrusFLViking on Dec 13, 2010 11:35 PM CST up reply actions

Cherry picking a bit?

That is T-Jacks best game ever, and did you see the running game he had in that game? 165 yards by AP so AZ was crowding the line trying to stop the run.

by Shuckler on Dec 14, 2010 12:35 PM CST up reply actions

I'm not saying TJack is a quality QB

I was just trying to temper his enthusiasm with Joe Webb.

He basically said Joe Webb has looked better in 6 plays than TJack ever has. Which is untrue. That AZ game might have been a rarity, but there’s no denying it actually happened. Joe Webb has never produced that kind of a game so it’s unfair to say he’s better than TJack.

Lack of energy was atrocious...

I don’t want to say that if the game was played in Minnesota, the outcome would have been different, but the lack of energy with the game being played in Detroit was ridiculous. Certainly the NFL could have done a better job of attempting to make the game more of home game for us. Delay the game until tuesday or wednesday and try to get UofM field ready, heck, the Mankato State field (training camp location) would have been better.

I said way vack

The UFL has vetter players now. Some laughed when I mentioned but the NFL should consider investing in them asa develpmental league. We wasted $ on the Rutp[e thing. Trams get to keep tights of a player and put them on a UFL roster if cut. Would have been a good deal for a lot of our young castoffdor give guys like Webb a sot.
I tied takling to Savramento coach about ian Johnson, A ggid player who I think might have help us more than Young

Anyway in the QB draft debate I said Mallet ANDY DALTON id the guy we go after in tounf 2

There you go all you Vikings fans who were calling for TJoke all this time. This is who he is. Not a very good QB. Not NFL starter worthy anyway. I was shocked over these last several weeks just how soon everyone seems to have forgotten how awful he is. Here is a golden opportunity to come in and play like a leader and rally this team and instead he p’d down his leg. An awful performance. Somewhat reminiscent of his last start in the playoffs of 2008 against Philly. Just a terrible effort. Guess a banged up/out of focus 40 year old is a better qb after all. That is a bad indictment on TJoke."

It’s not because he has mush mouth (not a racist comment as some would like to assert, rather the truth that has been pressed about in the past), rather it is his complete inability to play at, and make good decisions during the speed of an NFL game.

With that said, has common sense set in yet? Maybe, maybe not. We still have people saying that Webb may now be our future. Call me a non-believer, but I find common sense lacking if we really believe another runner first, passer second project QB is what we need. Webb does have talent, IMO though, its at the wideout position.

I still believe we have a team primed to win within the next two years, but it will require a proven QB like Vick or McNabb. We can draft and develop during that time. It can be, and I believe Zygi has the moxie to make that bold signing, along with Sidney, V jack, and a new FB. We could use the draft for OL/DB’S, and we have a winner.

In the meantime, we should hope that Fav-re recoups enough to finish this season, regardless of how he plays. He is a legend, and has the right to go out on his own terms, as a real man, who always plays with Passion and doesn’t injure our star Rb during a handoff. One day we will all realize how lucky we were to see and cheer a player like this.

Be a great fan and cheer the NFL, and especially our Vikes…regardless of record.

FOR PURPLE PRIDE, SKOL VIKES!!!! SKOL THE OLE GUNSLINGER!!!

Losing for picks is cowardly

We win to gain confidence going into next year.
Integrity is winning. Integrity was Favre not handing off to keep a sreak alive and fluff a record

Haven't heard anyone say that Webb is the future

…but it sure would make some sense to see what he can do. TJack is done. Investing further in Favre when the season is over doesn’t make much sense. And sorry, this team is not on the cusp of greatness. There are a lot of contracts for current Vikings that’ll be done at the end of the season.

WIthout a stadium, I don’t think ownership is going to continue its commitment to spending like there’s no tomorrow.

I won't say it

but I beleve he has the tools. Three games left and we could see. I feel we are missing an oportunity.
We crowned T-Jax cause Chilly wanted to move up in the 2nd to take a player we could have got in the 5th (Jackson)
I have this little bell ringing inside that makes me feel that this kid has something.
You can’t prove me wrong if you don’t give him the shot at tit
Yah. I think he could be far more than I believe T-jax will

by CitrusFLViking on Dec 14, 2010 8:54 PM CST up reply actions

I agree, Webb seems like a better option that T-Jack...

but I feel that bell in my head about him tolls for his move to WR.

The guy is an athletic beast, and I think we still have the parts in place to be a dominant team for the next couple of years. Webb would be nice to explore as a QB if we were re-building, but I don’t feel that this is the case with the Vikings.

We need a ready winner now, and another veteran QB who can distribute the ball when needed, and manage the game without turnovers could bring us to the Superbowl promise land…

SKOL VIKES!!!!

Thank goodness I resisted the temptation to call in sick tonight!

That would have sucked. Well time to go read the game threads. That ought to be a doozy!

It's just close to my last name Citrus

I hope if nothing else we can at least just beat the Bears next week but at this point – I don’t know. Like this game, I’ll only be able to “watch” the game from an internet cell phone.

Looks like a QB draft coming

Luck is out, but Vikes might get one of the second tier guys like Newton, Mallet, Locker. Any one of them would be better than what we’re looking at now.

Of course, it would be nice to see Joe Webb play, but Leslie Nielson seems to think TJack is serviceable. I mean, the guy’s had five years in the league now. He should be able to do a decent job as a backup, right?

Right?

Whoops.

None

Qw need the vest available WR (if grear) to compliment Sid. If that faiks the best OT or OG. If a sure shot safety comes along??? WR from So Car and get Dalron+ Tade Battian and some others and stockpile picks to get a 3rd rounder/ I
Wemeed to get Daltom, He would be a draft bargain and has all the tools

See you in three weeks

Because of you stadium problem I was pulling for you guys last night although it was a little freaky seeing the Viking on the middle of Ford Field. Hope you can get your stadium problem resolved.

See you guys in three weeks….Go Lions!

TJ

Tarvaris should have really been waived when Childress was fired. I don’t think anyone else has ever had any confidence in him.

Let’s see what Webb can do.

by Boot on Dec 14, 2010 10:21 AM CST reply actions

The only problem with that?

If Webb got hurt (which he did already) we’d be playing Sid or Percy out of the wildcat all game (why the fuck not at this point?)

Careful on the heavy words. We do have young readers and have to check the hard language. I am guilty of a slip but lets keep the “upset” language on the minor bad words/
Not being a prude or a holier than thou. Just the right thing if we have younger readers.

You are correct.

It’s this pathetic season that’s got me all riled up. Apologies.

Moving up in Draft

Is there anything the Vikes can do to trade up to the top 1-2 picks to get Andrew Luck? I live is So-Cal so I watch all of the pac10/stanford games. This kid is legit. I’m afraid that if the vikings stand pat with their pick (number 7-9 realistically) He will definitely be gone, and the vikings are going to want to take a chance on Newton, which I’m not convinced of his QB skills.

by Shuckler on Dec 14, 2010 12:25 PM CST reply actions

Kid from TCU is a good prospect too

We don’t have much to bargain with unless we get some picks in trades for guys we may want to replace thruy FA. A mid pick for McKinny and something for Barrian. Then you have to draft or have the cetainty that we will lanfd the FA’sthat can replce them. The option of using Webb opposite Rice is a thought or a good WR dropping to #2 But we can’t trade the second with no third. A good WR may drop but then if we offer a 4 and switch spots to go for Luck we have to find the best available guard or OT.
FA is always an option for some of those needs but never a guarantee. See how FA works out but then that market may be shut down if no CBA is reached. No one is going to guarantee squat. Free agency my start booming after the draft if no agreement is made
