Re-sign John David Booty!

Brett Favre needs time to heal. Tarvaris Jackson received a turf toe injury in the Giants game, and could be out for the year. Joe Webb has been recovering from a hamstring, and he may be converted to wide receiver after all. For the final three games, the Vikings are looking at free agency to fill the quarterback position. The Star Tribune lists some candidates.

Among the free agents available is John David Booty, the former Vikings quarterback who got the short end of the stick when Favre arrived last year.

Our other choices include Patrick Ramsey and Jamarcus Russell. Is there any doubt as to what we should do? No.

Let's re-sign John David Booty.

Rumor about Culpeppy...

and I laugh hysterically…but, why not? He will not have a problem throwing the deep ball, and he will be there to celebrate being named one of the fifty greatest Vikes.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/15/vikings-bringing-back-daunte-culpepper-sort-of/

I say suit him up, and lets all reminisce…it would complete the circle of former players this season. First Randy, and now Dante. It would be worth the comedic value.

You don't mean "my" Tjoke do you...

I have yet to write a positive post about him. He needs to be let go, so he can find another team to frustrate.

We’ve become desperate when Ole Culpeppy seems like a better option, which is what makes it comical to consider. But hey, it’s been a crazy season, so why not?

I will enjoy the rest of the season regardless of who is under center. These are “our” Vikes, and we need to stay on this Nordic Ship no matter what…

Wasnt he the 3rd string backup to Flapjack?

by Norse on Dec 15, 2010 8:22 AM CST reply actions

Yep

And he’s gotten the “Boot” from every team he has been with since. No sure if he would do anything. While I agree with Percy that Webb might not be ready for the fulltime starter position just yet, I did see some signs that he very could well be in the near future. Starting him one game, not sure what that would do. But he did seem to be trying to make something work with out being stupid against the Giants.

I would pick up Garcia and have Webb start the game

With that in mind I would tell Webb that he was only going to play the first half. Takes some of the pressue off him, and lets you pull him without him getting TJ’d. After that let Garcia throw the ball around and see what he has left.

It is a travesty to waste Webb as a backup quarterback.

Let the kid play the rest of the season to see if he has what it takes to be a serious contender for the QB spot, or start letting him work out with the receivers. Hell, let him play a little safety too.

by UGAVike on Dec 15, 2010 10:24 AM CST reply actions

Didn't we just sign a QB ( RJ Artcher) to the practice squad?

Why did we bring the kid back if we were not planning on using him?

As to Webb I am really upset. We save him as our QB all year and then the coach waste him as a WR. If isn’t a QB then he should have been playing WR from day one. If he has QB potential then Frazier is an idiot for using him and subjecting him to danger.

If Webb can play we need to see if he is our future or not. Otherwise just play the Archer kid and improve our draft choice.

well they need to make a choice on Webb that's for sure

Right now I just see him as someone who has about fifteen times the spirit TJ has.

However, having him return kick offs pretty much makes me think the coaches don’t see him as a future QB. Of course right now our options are pretty limited so give the man a chance. At least his hop passes will having him hurdling DE’s!

Seeing as how we desperate need you guys to beat the Bears, I sure as hell hope you don’t re-sign Booty. He’s currently not being employed by an NFL team right? I think there’s a reason for that.

If you’re going to sign someone to start, I think you’d be best off doing so with Garcia or George.

by packallday555 on Dec 15, 2010 11:01 AM CST reply actions

You don't really think the Vikes are primed to win

an outside game against the Bears do you? With either Jackson, Webb, Archer, or someone new to the team as QB? Can you say Packers and Vikes both don’t make the playoffs.
I know you still have a mathematical chance but it really doesn’t look good for you.

Sadly

They’ll miss it with a decent record.

I’ve heard a 10-win team has a chance of missing the playoffs.
With that said, making it to the playoffs w/ a 9-7 record was a near pipe-dream.

Bears just got slaughtered in the snow via Pats… I am sure they’ll bring their A-game to Minnesota.

Falcons & Saints are battling it out. Pretty sure the Saints take a WC spot

While the Eagles & Giants battle out the other card.

3-3….. Under Frazier is worst-case scenario.
4-2 is likely
5-1 is going to be hard…

I see the Vikings beating up the Lions at the end of the season. But I question the luck they’ll have against the Eagles. They’re looking to grab a nice seed and will play tough as their divisional competition is right on their tail.

by Deek on Dec 15, 2010 11:27 AM CST up reply actions

It will take a QB miracle for us to win any games.

The line isn’t healthy.
The QB will either be one who has proven unworthy, to young, to old, to hurt, or not acceptable all year to anyone else.
AP can’t run without decent blocking. Hard to win in the NFL without a decent QB.
To top it all off the defense really has never played well this year.

Your prediction of 3-3 under Frazier might be to optimistic. At least if he goes 2-4 we will have an opportunity to pick 7th in the draft.

3-3

Is not optimistic…. It is likely…

In-door game against the Lions at the end of the year.
I can’t really see us losing that game.. Is it possible? yes… But both teams will not be in the playoffs… BF could be playing as a farewell game (If healed)..
Never know what that game will bring.

His father’s name was John so everyone in his family called him John David. So those two names became his first name. So at USC they called him “John David” Booty. He apparently likes it.
Its like when Brad Childress changed his first name from Brad to “Chilly sucks”.

The Culpepper option

The downside here is his lack of familiarity with the offense.

That’s the main reason Booty should be brought back. He knows the offense. He won’t make the team look absolutely stupid on the 50th anniversary celebration game on national TV.

We’re not going to win any more games this year, barring a Favre miracle comeback.

Below the T-Jack belt

Now I have finally seen the light and have agreed that T-Jack will never be my starting quarterback. But being a terrible QB is not the same as being a “pansey”. Besides, what if he did play. What if he did win us a game. We go from #7 to # 12 in the draft overnight. That could be the difference between getting the 2nd and 4th QB in this draft. No, I think RJ Archer is the right guy. Besides his weekly game check would go from $3,500 to $20,000. Now thats a christmas bonus for the young man.

We could give the Giants back their 5th round draft pick for Sage!!!!!!

Now that would top the football year off right.

" As a final insult to all Vikings fans the Vikings gave up their only extra draft choice this year to let Sage Rosenfels start the final three games of the year. Ziggy Wilf explained the strange move this way. “Well, we decided to recreate the Vikings of old. We destroyed our stadium so we could play a couple of games outside. We are going to get a couple of undrafted free agents to play defense. So draft choices don’t matter. I’m thinking of drafting a really short QB that can move in the pocket. As a final move I’m going to name our team the Magenta Bandits. Sort of like the moniker of old, but a little snazzier.” And for those fans that think this won’t work I simply say Trust ME."

TJack has turftoe. Favre can’t feel his fingers. Bringing in another QB is for emergency situations. I don’t think it’d be smart if they brought in someone to start. That doesn’t make any sense. I think Webb is the logical choice if TJ and BF can’t go. I still think BF will start

JDB "got the short end of the stick"

What is it with Vikings fans thinking that because a guy makes one roster cut, he deserves to stay on it until proven many times over otherwise? The way it works in reality is that a guy earns a roster spot not just the first time, but he must prove that he deserves to keep it every day that he is on that roster. It is entirely fair to demote or cut a guy for not getting the job done.

Has everyone else forgotten JDB’s last performance in an NFL uni? He lined up behind center and threw a terrible INT. That’s all that I remember of him, frankly. But he was supposed to be as good as Peyton Manning, according to some scouts, so why not?

by KC Viking on Dec 15, 2010 7:19 PM CST reply actions

True, but he does know the offense. In any case, they decided not to go with him.

In the long run, we are going to play more games outside, including possibly the one on Monday. So we need a quarterback with a big arm. I don’t know if Ramsey has a big arm, but JDB, for all his strengths, didn’t have a huge arm.

by medicineball on Dec 15, 2010 8:36 PM CST up reply actions

He's definitely no Peyton Manning.

Wow, that sounds even more unbelievable once i typed it out. Think about the LONG list of “USC QB GREATS”. Umm, Carson “forgot which team i play for” Palmer; Matt “i would prefer to model but i guess i’ll play QB” Leinart; Mark “dirty” Sanchez. All HUGE names that are just a product of the USC factory. BTW, they all threw to STUDS while at USC so what makes us think that John David “Miss New” Booty would be any different…….OVERRATED!!!!
