Webb showed he is athletic enough to play QB. But so did T-jack in his first starts. Question is now: Is he smart enough to play QB?
1) Point in his favor: He definately keeps looking downfield and is willing to throw deeper. That will lead to embarrassing picks, but will also keep defenses from cheating up as he starts to move. Vick gets respect on a pump fake because he can throw deep on the run (forgive me for prematurely comparing Webb to Vick, but with the 1st look at Webb, Webb needs to play Vick style, too)
2) Weaknesses (and these are huge)-
He misses blitzes and quick reads.
He misses d-line vs o-line overload and doesn't slide away from pressure (of course that was Cook in front of him letting the d-tackle run up the middle, so I'm willing to relax on this one).
He hangs on to the ball a LONG time. he has to see where the receiver is GOING to break open and throw sooner.
3) On the Vikings side of the equation (because a new qb needs a team)-
Vikings need some o-line help. Webb throwing farther downfield will help AP, Toby 'who needs a nickname' Gearhart, and Percy as they work behind the line of scrimmage. Can't throw longer passes without protection.
Webb with more designed roll outs will have more options. Play action, roll right and throw or go. Kleinsasser or Gearhart leading him in the rollout gives many options and Webb won't be caught.
