Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton spoke with 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia on Wednesday and ripped current Vikings quarterback Brett Favre for starting in Monday night's game against the Chicago Bears.

"It's absolutely selfish," Tarkenton said. "With Brett Favre -- he talks about the team, and I'm for the team and I want to play for my home fans and my teammates. It was Monday Night Football last week. He hadn't had enough publicity in the last week."

Tarkenton also said that Favre should have taken "himself out of the equation and say 'This is not best for the team.'"

Favre started against the Bears, despite a sprained shoulder and being declared out on Saturday. He was knocked out of the game in the second quarter after sustaining a head injury.

Tarkenton went on to say that backup quarterback Joe Webb gives the Vikings a better chance to win.
