Vikings Officially Sign Running Back Lorenzo Booker, Waive Albert Young
According to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, via Twitter, the Vikings have officially signed former Eagles, Dolphins, and Hartford Colonials running back Lorenzo Booker. In order to make this move, they have placed running back Albert Young on waivers.
In another move, the Vikings have signed QB R.J. Archer to the practice squad, waiving center Adrian Martinez to do so.
Not sure if the Vikings are going to attempt to bring Young back or not, but if not, we wish him the best in his future endeavors.
EDIT: Young is now saying via his Twitter account that he was placed on injured reserve, not waived by the team.
We apologize to Mr. Young for the error if that's the case.

Good luck Mr. Young
He had his shot Sunday, and I guess he just didn’t make the grade. If Booker can return kicks, he’ll be a big help to us if Percy is unavailable (or if we decide not to risk him for that task). Young didn’t seem to make much headway in that department, and I think it’s a bit too risky to put Webb in that position.
Is the Archer move indicative of an impending change at 3rd string QB? Are they moving Webb to another position?
Interesting
I hope the Archer signing isn’t indicitive of Favre’s and Webb’s injuries.

I would think it almnost has to be
Signing him to the practice squad means Favre and Webb aren’t as heal;thy as the team would like, and it gives Archer time to come in and learn the system with no real pressure of playing.
Mixed feelings on Albert Young. It seems the Vikes gave him every opportunity to take advantage of getting the third down RB slot, but there was nothing in his skillset that really stood out to me. I mean, he did most everything just okay, but nothing really above average.

Glad to see us bring Archer in.
On Sunday we were screwed if Jackson got hurt. Webb couldn’t run with his hamstring injury and Favre has said he would have been limited to handing off with his left hand. I imagine our normal option in that situation would have been Harvin, but he obviously wasn’t active either. This gives us some more options heading into Sunday if we need them.
Scouting report on Booker
Interesting signing and maybe not a bad one. He was originally drafted by the Dolphins in 2007 in the 3rd round and then traded to the Eagles in 2008 for a 4th round pick. The Eagles used him sparingly in 2008 before finally cutting him in the final cuts on Sept 5, 2009.
He was ranked around the 5th or 6th best RB in the 2007 draft. He ran a 4.46 40 and did 26 reps on the bench press at 5’10 and 191 lbs during the combine. Not too bad.
He had 76 carries for 410 yards (5.4 ypa) and 21 receptions for 240 yards (11.4 ypc) during this past UFL season in 8 games.
Here is a scouting report on him from thehuddlereport.com …
Lorenzo Booker RB/WR Florida St
STRENGTHS
Lorenzo is very fast and very quick. He is an all-purpose back that can play more than one position. He shows a good burst, vision in the hole and can turn the corner and take it all the way in a flash if you do not string him out. Lorenzo shows strong hands coming out of the backfield and will make you miss in the open field if you make a little mistake when you go to tackle him. Lorenzo is a match-up problem that can help the team that drafts him as a RB, Slot WR, Kick Returner and Punt Returner.
NEEDS TO IMPROVE
Lorenzo does not look like he can add more bulk to his frame and if he is used in the backfield as a RB, I’m not sure how well he can take the pounding that he will have to take to make an impact. He needs to improve his blocking to be considered a third down back because right now, his blocking leaves a lot to be desired.
TALENT BOARD ROUND: 3
I think for Lorenzo to impact at the next level, he should be moved to the SWR position or slot receiver. Lorenzo is the type of player that does not have to be on the field that much to impact because of his speed. In fact, if he is on the field too much you run the chance of him getting injured. He must stay injury free to impact; however, he does not have to be on the field for every down to impact. Lorenzo has Reggie Bush talent, that same all-purpose talent; however, because of his lack of size and strength, he will most likely be limited to just playing the slot at the next level and not multiple positions like Reggie does. Lorenzo reminds me a lot of Santana Moss (WR Redskins) and Roscoe Parrish (WR Bills) and if he can stay healthy, he should be able to impact in a few years like those two players do for their teams. It will take some time. Remember my saying, you can’t teach speed, but you do have to teach players how to use their speed. Drew Boylhart

Some players take a couple of years to be ready to make an impact and Booker could be ready.
Thanks for the scouting report.
He sounds like a replacement for Reynaud as primarily a kick/punt returner and a good receiving option out of the slot and backfield. Seems like a good depth and special teams signing.

Nice report
Maybe we should check out some UFL OL guys while running thru their rosters. They put a lot more D1 players on their rosters this season. Maybe a sleeper we could use there.

Good luck with Booker
He was a big disapointment in philly. Can’t run inside( too small) , can’t run outside (too slow) and can’t block very well ( ?) But he can catch…… but then running after the catch….well… Good luck
I WANT REPARATIONS!!!!!!!! I WANT REDSKINS REPARATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe we were better off keeping Ian Johnson
stats just a sgood as youngs and alot more elusive. They wanted a guy to do CT’s duties but that plan hasn’t worked. Ian would have had some success in spelling AD more than Young -my opinion
Kinda miss that Reynaud guy right about now....
