LT done in SD
From the AP:
SAN DIEGO (AP)—LaDainian Tomlinson(notes) has been released by the San Diego Chargers, ending a brilliant nine-year run in which he became one of the NFL’s greatest running backs.
The move has been expected since the end of the season. Tomlinson had 730 yards on 223 carries for an average of 3.3 yards per carry, all career lows.
Tomlinson was due a $2 million bonus in early March.
No surprises here. I'm sure most saw this coming. If Chester leaves, should we pick him up?

I've actually thought about this.
And if Chester does leave, this could be a stop gap.
I’m not sold though; what about Albert Young and Ian Johnson? They both have a year of experience. Albert got a little playing time. I would be fine giving Albert Young a shot at the third down back.
That said, for the right price, I would certainly be willing to take on someone like Tomlinson, if just for the experience and the known pass catching/third down ability.
Of course, I’d much rather just keep Chester.

Woot Woot!
For Vet minimum I don't see why not.
In case Young has a problem filling in for CT. I’m not really sure how LT’s hands are though, and he would have to get used to AD getting the TD’s.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
I actually like this idea as crazy as it sounds
LT knows hes at the end of his carrer so it seems poosible that he will not get a starting role in most places. LT is one of the best pass catching RBs in the league so we there will be little to no drop off in that area should chester leave. plus Scince AP looks up to LT he could serve as a good mentor (not that chester wasn’t) to Adrian and really help him on his fumbling problems. the only problem i see is how much money the vikings would offer him. and lastly we dont want LT in Chicago of Green Bay do we? but then again like Manimal said might as well keep chester. but if we can’t i would consider this
"And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you!"
Yes
The more I think about it, the more I think this could actually work. We are talking about LaDainian Tomlinson. I just worry about locker room chemistry. In any case, let’s keep Chester Taylor.

I also am confident
in our current rb’s. keep in mind that Young has 2 years in, he spent his rookie year on the PC. Plus we also have Harvin who could spent more time in the backfield next season.

My preference
Chester Taylor
Albert Young
Ian Johnson
Ladanian Tomlinson
other veteran
rookie
in that order.
While LT is a great player, the Vikings already are a great team. A lot of times when veterans arrive, it disrupts the locker room chemistry. For example, the San Antonio Spurs this year brought in some veterans and were expected to contend for the championship. They are playing poorly, however.
While LT has a lot of talent, he would change the locker room chemistry, and right now there is no reason to change it.
Re-sign Chester Taylor or use a tag on him. Otherwise, let’s hope Albert Young or Ian Johnson can pass-block. If they can’t, we could sign LT or another vet.
Why even ask the question based on "vet minimum"
Since we all know LT won’t accept anywhere near that low
If he hopes to land on his feet with a championship caliber team he might
He said that the number one thing left for him to do is win a ring. Money might not matter as much as it once did.

This is very interesting...
i am from the los angeles area and am a die hard viking fan…but i think that adding such a high profile name as Ladanian Tomlinson can really add to the chances of the Vikes staying in Minni…where they belong. But Chester Taylor besides the late Steelers game drop has been mr. consistent. When we have needed a first down or a big play CT has been there. We really need to try to keep him here…hopefully chester will choose the super bowl ring instead of the money and a starting job cause i really think that chester has been a cornerstone in our success in the last couple years.
LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!
If Chester does go(lets hope not)
It’s time for Ian!
A bird in the hand is worth about 10.99 at KFC and makes me lick my chops
Yummy!!!!!
You mean Albert.
In my opinion, at least, Albert Young fits the Chester Taylor mold better than Ian Johnson. Just my thoughts though.

From Aaron Wilson, The National Football Post
The Houston Texans aren’t the landing spot for former San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson(notes).
According to the Houston Chronicle, the Texans won’t be addressing their running back need with Tomlinson.
Why?
They’re wary of older backs after their experience with Ahman Green(notes).
Texans owner Bob McNair has indicated that the Texans, who had one of the worst running games in the league last season, want to upgrade their running game with a younger player.
As the report states, the Texans “want young and hungry, not a back looking for one last contract. That rules out Tomlinson.”
Possible landing spots mentioned already for Tomlinson: the Green Bay Packers, New Engand Patriots and the Minnesota Vikings if they don’t re-sign Chester Taylor

WOW. I've never seen poll results so close.

The Vikings could sign LT even without losing a free agent first. This is because LT’s contract expires in a few days. Once that happens, the “final 8” rule does not apply to LT.
The tension mounts.
I still would rather have Chester Taylor.
correction
The Vikings could sign LT because he was cut instead of being an unrestricted free agent. There were a few years left on his contract when he was cut.

Exactly. And he says he will only consider teams that are in the running
That narrows it down to maybe 6-8 teams. NE is always going to be in the discussion because they are known for bringing in vets. Problem is, who do they get rid of to make room for him in an already crowded backfield?
LT seems to have a little diva in him. Either that or he has one big chip on his shoulder. I’ve liked his ability since his days at TCU. I always thought that SD took advantage of ATL with that trade that sent the the #1 pick (Vick) to ATL and the #5 (LT) to SD, who subsequently drafted Brees in round 2.
I just wonder how it would impact the locker room…

LT in Minnesota?
Here is a video of LT’s press conference.
It’s a compelling. I think he is going to bring a great deal of passion and determination next year for whatever team signs him. In the video he specifically talks about “mentoring” young players (makes me think of Adrian Peterson, Albert Young, and Ian Johnson).
If we do lose Chester Taylor, after a moment of silence and gratitude for Chester Taylor, maybe we should sign LT. Like others have said, Young and Johnson, while interesting players, probably can’t pass protect nearly as well as LT can at this stage in their careers. LT strikes me as humble and probably willing to take over Chester Taylor’s role in the offense.
If we can’t keep Chester, LT might be the next best thing. There are some good running backs in the draft, too.
I agree with you.
Actually if I was a total A-hole I would think that losing CT would give us teh ability to pick up a FA, and if we picked up LT we would lose very little while being able to pick up a FA that might be able to provice some depth to another position.

Tahi
Fahu Tahi played tailback in college. He can take handoffs. He can catch. He can block. He can read defenses well enough to pass protect. One negative is that I have never seen him break a tackle or dodge a tackler with the ball in his hands, but maybe that is just a fluke.
If Chester leaves, should the Vikings make Tahi the 3rd down back? The easy answer is no, LT is better, but at least it’s an option.
The Saints are sniffing at LT...
I BELIEVE...
