If this happened, will we finally win the SB?
Okay, so I've put alot of thought into this.
Say Favre comes back, we resign Ray Edwards & Chester Taylor and sign Karlos Dansby.
Lets also say the Beloved Purple either trade up with the Chiefs or the Seahawks and draft a QB...
(Trade Berrian, 1st (30), Ben Leber, and Ryan Cook for Chiefs 1st & 4th)
(Chiefs subsequently trade Matt Cassel and the 30th pick, Dwayne Bowe, 3rd and next years 4th for Brandon Marshall and the Broncos 1st. Apparently the Chiefs Coaching Staff likes Croyle a little bit more than Cassel)
(Subsequently Filling both teams needs, although the Broncos have a little dis-advantage at WR now, They can take Golden Tate or Arrielous Benn and they will both fit in Nicely.)
We draft Bradford or Clausen whom ever is still available. (I like Bradford's arm more, but Jimmy played in a pro-style offense which i believe will translate over sooner. (Also Sam's injury concerns me a little bit) Although it doesnt matter, they still will warm the bench all year with Superman at the Helm. I wont care who we get.)
OR
(We trade our 1st, Berrian, T-Jack and Leber to Seattle for Their 1st, 3rd and next years 4th)
We hope that Bradford, Clausen or McCoy (Who i dont particularly care for, but wont be totally against it if we do draft him... i just hope we trade down a bit and gather more picks to get him.) is there, otherwise we take Haden (If he is still there) or Kyle Wilson (CB) and and grab Pike, Lefevour (?) or Crompton later. (Not Tebow. He has too much work to do, and the Jags will be stupid and take him either in the 1st round or the 2nd.)
(Now its not that i dont like Berrian, i just feel he's not worth as much money as he's making given the fact that he seems to injure his Hammy all the time. If we do trade him, I will wish him the best of luck where ever he goes tho.)
Personally I would like the Trade with the Chiefs to happen, more than the Seattle one. Obviously I'm sure you all have your own opinions on what should happen.
So without further ado: FIRE AWAY.... And SKOL VIKINGS.
P.S to take Berrian's place on the roster, We draft Minnesotas Own: Eric Decker.

Btw:
If you Voted other trade, Just for the sake of “experimentation” post your other trade idea in the comments.
Only trade to consider in my opinion would be Berrian for Moss....
That move wouldfor me be as much nostalgic as for improved weaponry that Favre will have…Then the rest? Keep what we have – a pretty solid core throughout….Use the draft to do BPA, sign as possible UFA based on what happens with our guys (say in case they refuse new contracts etc.) and restrictions placed on us because of our final 8 position from last season….
Why do I spout such a conservative strategy you ask? Here is why: We are not in a rebuilding status at the moment….Why create more change than is necessary/desirable…Change is good, just not ALWAYS good if is only for the sake of change? Have been in orgs that espouse change and often do just that based not on improving, rather just to have change…chaos and synergies often are the result, and a less effective team emerges….
I would rather be IN the Arena than watching from the stands...That is my life!

last phrase...missing some words....ooof
should be:
chaos and negative effect on synergies often are the result, and a less effective team emerges and outcomes to match (less)…

Agreed
You use Berrian as a trade for PICKs. Berrian in my opinion is an over-paid receiver. Yes, he is good when healthy, but even when healthy he didn’t stand out. I see bad chemistry between Favre & Bernard (Bernard was expecting a great stat-wise year until Favre arrived and spreaded the wealth). If there was a way to trade Berrian and get Moss out of the deal that was within reason, I would be all for it.
Both have had previous injuries that sort of slowed down their season.
And I also think, if we make it to the Superbowl next season, how sweet would it be with Moss!?!? -
Anyways, imagine this setup of receiving core Moss, Rice, Harvin, Shiancoe… All great receivers….
Trades seem a little one-sided in our favor
not that I would be against that, just that it isn’t very realistic to expect to trade away guys who don’t play—or whose play is average at best— for high draft picks.
Look at who you’re offering:
Cook=useless. Not even real valuable as a backup.
Berrian=borderline. 30 years old and never had a 1,000 yard season (even with Favre throwing it to him).
Jackson=It’s clear now that his only value is as a backup, and even that value decreases when it’s a team he’s not familiar with.
Leber=Good, not great, LB but he’s 30 years old.
And all of this for the 5th overall pick? Not happening. I know we’re throwing in our first too, but 30th ain’t getting you anything resembling fifth.
But I would be all for any of those trades if we could find a taker.
+1
That was my response to it as well, although I’m less keen on letting Leber go. The man has been the anchor of the Viking’s LB corps and he’s got enough hustle to always be in the mix. But for that sort of trade, something’s got to go….
Like you said, I don’t see either KC or Seattle going for it.

Predicting the draft is impossible.
Predicting trades in the draft is even MORE impossible. Which doesn’t make sense, I realize, but bear with me.
Predicting how a draft, trades during a draft, and how those trades are used will affect the upcoming season is even MORE impossible than that.
Minnesota will more than likely stay put at 30 and draft the best player available. Going from 30 to the top 15 or top 10 would cost WAAAY too much.
No reason to try and trade away starters for rookies when the Vikings can win RIGHT NOW. If the Vikings were coming off losing seasons and needed to rebuild, then yes, trade away some starters for picks to get younger.
Why on earth would you want to trade away starters right now? Rookies have much less of an impact than veterans (more often than not). Keep the core of the team intact.
Skol Vikings!
Woot Woot!
How about: Favre comes back and we trade him and the 1st for T. Brady; sign C. Taylor and trade him to Tenn for C. Johnson; let Edwards go and sign Peppers; trade Griffin for whoever the top cornerback is; sign Sharper and make him be effective in our system; and then trade Childress for Sean Payton.
Or not.
lol
Then we can all ride unicorns to work!
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
work?
there’s no work in this fairy tale.

You live in La-La Land....
Let me in on whatever it is that your consuming!!!!
I see all your points
But The Chiefs and Seahawks both have HUGE needs at most every position. Now maybe my “estimations” on what picks we would get were too high, but Every player that I mentioned in trading, (Except Ryan Cook. I just want him gone.) would fill those needs capably.
Both teams are rebuilding and they know the key to success is to have a proven vet who may not be at the top of the list in terms of how well they play their position, but are much better alternatives than what the Chiefs or Seattle already have.
Personally I think that we could get the Chiefs to trade with us, we would just have to give them the right amount of picks and players.
Here’s a revision. Vikes trade: Berrian, Leber, Artis Hicks, 1st, 3rd and next years 4th for
Chiefs: 1st, 4th, 5th and next years 5th…
Too Conservative? Or am i giving away the farm now?
i forgot
T-jack wouldnt fill D1{K either

Why would you trade two starters on a championship calibur team?
It makes no sense. The Vikings are not rebuilding.
Skol Vikings!
Woot Woot!
Thats why we sign Dansby
Dansby is a better line backer, Faster, YOUNGER and Is the leader of his defense. Leber is a decent LB but i think hes too slow and is progressively getting slower every year, he cant generate a rush (which is ok because Fraizer hardly uses a LB to blitz, but would be nice to have for those times of desperation) and will only get to the ball carrier, if he runs towards him. He is a solid tackler though.
Dansby Is great in rushing the passer, pass coverage, tackling and run support. Leber is decent in pass coverage, on the slower tight ends and he is generally around the rusher, if they get held up near the line, or have to go around completely. Leber can’t cover much of the field.
Leber is by far the best pass covering LB the Vikings play.
He’s constantly around the ball on running and pass plays. I don’t have any statistics in front of me, but I bet he has the most pass defenses out of the LBs easily. He’s not spectacular, but he hardly ever blows an assignment. I think trading him, a veteran, solid player who knows the system for another vetran, new to the system and team is not the best move.
Leber isn’t asked to blitz, so that’s not a problem. Greenway is doing okay at that. The front four get enough pressure to not make this an issue. The Vikings run a Tampa-2, which is not blitz heavy as it is.
This won’t happen anyway, but still, speculation and crazy trades are what the offseason is about.
Skol Vikings!
Woot Woot!
Only way we can sign Dansby is
if we lose somebody and they g et a contract equal to what he wants. Given that TAylor is our biggest FA and most likely to make the highest contract, since your scenario involves him being resigned, we really can’t sign Dansby.
Also, Leber is a damn good LB. Definitely one of the more underrated players on our defense.
I'm not a big fan of trading Leber out
Without him we would have seriously suffered when Henderson went out. He’s a solid LB (the best in coverage we have) he missed out on making some plays this year but he is a solid player and a team leader. Losing him and having Henderson as a question mark makes our line backing core one of the weakest in the NFL. I do like the idea of trading up for a QB, but I think that next year would be a better time to pull off that trade.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Actually,
our defense has still been pretty stout even when EJ is out. Brinkley did a great job for a 5th round rookie to come in for one of the best ILB’s in the game. As did Napoleon Harris. Im just saying, we only trade Leber if we get our hands on a better player in FA.
Leber
He is aging. We need to have his full-time replacement ready for the 2011 season.
That said, in 2010, and maybe beyond, we definitely need him. If we draft a Sean Weatherspoon for example,, he might takeover the starting job from Leber at some point in the 2010 season, but we still need Leber around.

O-line first
I agree that Weatherspoon would be a great addition to the Vikings’ squad, but there’s a much bigger need for upgrading the offensive line. I think it would be reprehensible for the Vikings FO to not make that a priority in the draft.

guards in the draft and free agency
Mike Johnson is the best guard prospect likely to fall to pick #30. Both Iupati and Pouncey will be gone by then, and neither have experience in the zone-blocking system anyway.
The next best guard is Mike Johnson. He is 6’5. Some scouting reports say he has problems with leverage, he gets driven back into the pocket (Hello, Tommie Harris), and lacks lower body weight. He isn’t a sure thing.
There are other possibilities out there for guard. Ciron Black, Roger Saffold, Matt Tennant, J.D. Walton, Thomas Austin, Shelley Smith of Colorado State, and Zane Beadles of Utah all are later-round possibilities at guard.
Finally, Rob Sims of the Seahawks has been a starter at guard. They use the zone-blocking scheme. Sims is a restricted free agent. The Vikings might be looking at signing him.
Mike Johnson is very good, but maybe there are other options in the draft.

What kind of draft pick would he be
and would he be a marked improvement over Hererra? I mean the last guard we got from teh Hawks was pretty good…
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
I think that the Viking FO has made every need a priority in each draft.
But they do not reach for a player to fill a need. To them that is a waste of a draft pick. Don’t be surprised if an O-Lineman isn’t taken early. Don’t be surprised if one is taken in the first round. I would only be surprised if they took someone that isn’t a good fit.
Does anyone have a reason we won’t take Anthony Dixon RB with our 2nd pick? I don’t understand why he isn’t rated as a first round pick. Please explain this to me.

Dixon
You’re starting convince me.
We should move him up the board. There is nothing wrong with him. He just produces. As a 245 lb tailback and a power rusher, he fits with Childress’s offense. He makes his own holes, moves piles, breaks tackles, and has good vision. He would have to learn a new offense, but he has great athletic ability and will fit in.

Because we need another RB as much as we need another WR?
unless we lose Chester in which case it’s not a bad pick and hopefully we can use the money in FA that Chester gives us to work in a new CB or Guard.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Need
If we lost Chester, we lose that 1-2 punch, unless Young or Johnson can fill in. With AD’s contract expiring in a year or two, having a really good guy behind him would be nice to have.
Admittedly, other positions have greater needs.
by medicineball on Mar 1, 2010 11:18 AM CST up reply actions
Yeah I think that's sort of where I'm going with this
It’s always nice to get a falshy skill position, but we’ve done that well the last couple of years and I’m thinking the first or second round this year it will be nice to get some decent back up for our starters, or better yet get some improvements in our weaker areas. It’s really to bad Griffen and Winfield got injured last season or I would say we’re prettty ok at CB right now. I think Asher Allen is a pretty strong CB and will be able to pick up when Winfield finally calls it a day, however withouth Grif we are in trouble as to depth. I don’t think anyone wants to see Paymah out there again, even though he did do better later in the season.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
I was thinking that getting Dixon is the insurance against AP getting injured.
I had forgotten that AP’s contract and Sidney Rice have contracts expiring in the near future.
I was looking at Dixon as a player that would be the BPA instead of simply a need.
Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes
