Vikings fine with waiting for Favre

By JUDD ZULGAD, Star Tribune

Vikings not putting any pressure on the Great One. That is a very smart move, something the Green Bay Packer Organization led by Teddy T knows nothing of.

Teddy T had to show who was in charge of the organization. Teddy T's Ego is very Big. Too Bad, Too Sad for him.

This year Favre will come back even hungrier than last season.

Favre will be back in 2010, 100% Guaranteed.

Well in fairness to TT he moved on after Favre retired. So who knows maybe Favre will retire, and then decide he wants to come back. (Though I doubt it because I’m sure he’s learned from 2008) If that happened that would be the only way you could compare the Spielman and Thompson.

Another point that should be made is the Vikings kind of have to wait. After seeing what Favre was able to do for their team I can promise you they’d rather have that another year as opposed to Jackson or Sage. The Packers felt they had a good Qb waiting in the wings and they turned out to be right.

What did he do that makes you think “he was entitled”? How about an example of his arrogance or who exactly he should be appreciative towards?

He wanted to play. Is that so wrong? He has put his head down and worked hard even through all of the Favre reflection forced upon him.

by LoveHate on Mar 1, 2010 8:40 AM CST up reply actions

Rodgers is an arrogant, unappreciative punk of a QB.

Simply put, Rodgers felt he was entitled. Three years on the bench was already to long to wait to take the starting QB Position for the Green Bay Packers.

“Wake the F$#@ UP, Rodgers. You were taking over the starting role from the Greatest Packer, not to mention the Greatest QB in NFL History. Show some respect!”

They Already Know

The only logical reason that the management is making statements like that is because they already know the answer. BSPN reported from the combine today that Chilly talks to him regularly but is not revealing anything of substance in what they’re talking about…Yeah, he’s coming back.

by purplegrey on Feb 26, 2010 1:47 PM CST reply actions

Ummmm

no, TT moved on before Favre retired thank you very much. How in the hell do you plan a number retiring just 2 or 3 days after Favre retired without already having your mind made up. They also had that 20 million dollar offer out in the open pretty quick. Keep getting high on that cheese buddy. And don’t be so quick to say they made the right choice. First one to be out of the NFL will dictate that. The Packers haven’t improved yet so you can’t say that TT made the right decision quite yet. Rodgers could also suffer a career ending injury. Yes I know they are what ifs. But the jury is still out and I will be the first one to say TT was right when the rest of the evidence is in. And I am not knocking Rodgers. He is a punk but he can still play and that is what matters. You Packer fans forget that. You call Favre a diva or whatever but the man can play.

by SeanInEauClaireWi on Feb 26, 2010 2:42 PM CST reply actions

No, TT and MM encouraged him to take more time but he didn’t. He retired. Not saying there is a problem with that or anything but that’s just how it happened. And they probably planned retiring his # soon after because of how convincing his retirement press conference was (you know the crying and all that.).

And don’t be so quick to say they made the right choice. First one to be out of the NFL will dictate that.

So basically whoever retires first or gets injured first dictates what the right choice indeed was? So if Favre retires next year that validates that Rodgers was the right choice? Or if Rodgers goes down with a career ending injury that validates that he was the wrong choice? The only circumstance where this “theory” may hold validity is if Rodgers decides to retire this offseason or the next but for some reason I don’t see that happening…

Judging whether or not they made the right decision can be largely determined by Rodgers play. If he played bad then it would have been a bad decision but he didn’t at all, so I’m sure TT is happy with his choice. Can Favre still play? Hell ya he can, and I don’t think TT or anyone else for that matter doubted that he could. Letting him go was more so just about the commitment he made to Rodgers.

by packallday555 on Feb 26, 2010 7:12 PM CST up reply actions

Dude, stop spreading your packers propaganda

TT and MM encouraged him to take more time? I don’t know about that….

by dsludo on Feb 26, 2010 11:41 PM CST up reply actions

Didn't

they also delegate his job to backup QB by this time you are talking about?

by jshep on Feb 27, 2010 5:49 AM CST up reply actions

Go back and look at their press conferences and some articles about it. And if “that were just a show” I’m sure Favre would have come out and told everybody it was seeing as how he pretty much threw both under the bus in many of his interviews.

http://portagedailyregister.com/sports/article_9ada12ae-678e-5c02-a7e0-1cffd57b7f36.html

(Pay close attention to the part in the article where they talk about how TT and MM were ready to welcome him back close to a month after his March 6th retirement. A meeting was set, and then 2 days before that meeting Favre cancelled and said he wanted to stay retired.)

http://portagedailyregister.com/search/?q=favre&t=article&l=10&date-selector=on&d1=05%2F01%2F2008&d2=09%2F01%2F2008&f=html&s=&sd=asc&c%5B%5D=sports (Page with all sorts of Favre articles on it.)

Should I believe everything in these articles? Nope but I believe most of the stuff just because Favre made it a point to tell interviewers what things supposedly weren’t true, and things like MM advising him to take more time to make a decision as well as them saying they would take him back in late March only to have Favre decide once he again he wanted to stay retired, were things that Favre never came out and said weren’t true like he did with many other issues.

Favre denied this. Favre said it did not go down like that. There was no planned meeting.

TT & MM are 100% to blame. They knew Favre would want to play in 2008, all the signs were there. They traded away their best chance to win in 2008! They traded the Face of the Franchise.TT’s EGO is Huge.

Packkallday555 you can’t handle the truth.

Did he say how it indeed actually did go down?

They probably did know he would end up wanting to play again but in that same respect I know Favre did too. So why retire in the first place? And then why wait until May or June to decide you want to play again? This is the NFL we’re talking about, not some high school varsity team. It’s a business and while Favre retiring was disappointing for anybody who liked the Packers, the organization still had to move on. It wasn’t like with Favre’s retirement the Packers retirement was going to come as well.

They had to move on and they did. I agree with you that TT has a big ego, and I’m sure he was eager to show everyone his Qb that he brought in.

Sorry for “spreading lies”, though you can’t really call it that. If Favre indeed did deny that there was no meeting scheduled that doesn’t automatically mean he was telling the truth. Just like TT, MM, and the ever so reliable ESPN saying there was indeed a meeting scheduled doesn’t make that the truth either. In this instance this is where we make our decision on what we want to believe really happened, and unfortunately much of the fiasco has many more issues like this. I guess it just comes down to interpretation, and in my interpretation I thought Favre acted rather childish. Obviously I know that’s not how you feel and that’s fine.

Very respectful comeback. Kudos to you.

Packallday,

The bottom line was Aaron Rodgers could have waited a year or so more to take the reigns. Brett Favre was the Face of the Franchise. He (was) Green Bay. Mark Murphy and even Bob Harlan should have steped in and told Thompson that Favre meant everything to Green Bay, they also take blame in how it went down. All Thompson had to do was talk to Rodgers about his future with the organization, then swallow a little pride for the Franchise. Favre gave them the best chance to win in 2008!

Can’t necessarily disagree with that. Things just got too bad too fast, and they kind of reached the point of no return early. I was hoping Favre would come back for 2008 but after it was reported that he again confirmed his retirement I knew it would never happen.

This is not a story anymore.

He hasn’t been a Packer for two full seasons. Who really cares about the mistakes gm’s across the league are making, especially when the mistakes positively affect the team you support?

Also...

… I think Leno’s a very appropriate guy to interview Favre, and Favre is a very appropriate guest on Leno’s second go-round on the Tonight Show.

Both are very successful at what they do.

Both walked away and gave the job they were successful to someone else.

And both decided to take it back.

The only difference is that NBC let Leno take his old job back, while Ted Thompson… well, you get the idea. :)

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

A job

at their ages considering their career paths is a blessing! Favre seems delighted with the one he found. Saying nothing of the fact that he may make his announcement on the day of his number. This is one more reason to follow Caliendo’s advice ’ ala Madden ’ and change the ’ number 4 ’ to ’ number Favre ‘. I’d go the extra mile by changing words that sound like four whenever I want to as well – ’ I’m all Favre that idea ’. ’ As Favre as I can tell ’.

Maybe the Vikes offseason mantra should be ’ If at first you don’t succeed, Favre, Favre again! ’ Hey – it doesn’t follow the above idea exactly, but it has a great ‘SB ring’ to it. I know – quit while you’re ahead, Shep
