Superbowl 44 - Who will win it?

Just looking to see within the Vikings fan base who everyone thinks will win the game.

Who will you be rooting for?

The Saints because this is their first time to the Superbowl?

Or the Colts because you believe they are the better team and deserve it?

If my memory serves me correctly (please correct me if I am wrong), the last time a #1 seed met a #1 seed in the Superbowl was 1994. Proof that being a #1 seed does not always get you to the big game, but only helps.

Colts

They play the game the right way. I hope Peyton Manning has a great performance today and silences the critics forever as the Colts win.

Saints win

I thought the Colts would win, but the Saints manned up especially on defense. The Saints defeated three Hall of Fame quarterbacks in a row. They are a marvelous team, but the Vikings should have won. It really hurts to think about, but the Vikings would have beaten the Colts today.

Turnovers

As evidenced in the NFC Championship the Saints need turnovers to win. If the Colts protect the ball, I see a blowout in their favor.

I sort of figured the Colts would be up high in the Voting results

I picked them too, but here is why.
Many people may root for an under-dog in certain situations (I know I do). But when it comes to the Superbowl, I believe the best deserves to win (Being the best is what got them there).

Their record is 14-2 vs. the Saints 13-3 for the regular season.
The Colts gave up their 2 losses by removing their starters. (No reason to re-live any Patriots 18-1, right? How embarrassing would that be?)

Here is the break down of Points Made versus Points Allow for both teams
Colts 416 scored 307 allowed
Saints 510 scored 341 allowed
(Here’s the Vikings 470 scored 312 allowed)

Colts may not have scored as many points, but Manning is accurate and smart. And their offense is just as explosive (Why else would the Pats go for it on 4th and 2)
I believe that the experience of being in the Superbowl as of recent will be in Mannings favor.

I do not believe it’ll be a blow-out… But, I wouldn’t be surprised if once the Colts take the lead the Saints never hold a lead again.

The two teams do match-up real well. (I believe the Vikings would of matched up more evenly with the Colts, almost to a point I believe they would be better).

Unless someone puts grease and butter on the hands of all the colts players, I would feel picking the Colts to win is a safe bet.

by Deek on Feb 7, 2010 10:59 AM CST reply actions

I picked the Colts, but not because the Saints beat us.

I’m a selfish fan. Of all the teams that haven’t won a SB yet, I want the Vikings to be the first.
I don’t think those other teams have suffered anywhere near as bad as we Vikings fans have.
We’re 0-4 in the SB, 4-9 in NFCCG’s.

The Saints most certainly haven’t been here enough times to deserve a SB-win. Plus I’m sick and tired of all the “Who Dat”noise going on. I wont make it through the off-season if I hear that the whole time. :)
The Colts were the best team of the reg-season, and they have been the best team for most of the decade. They deserve to finish it off with a SB win. Go Colts!

by chaosg on Feb 7, 2010 11:56 AM CST reply actions

Like the way you think...

I like how you stated you were selfish, so I understand where you were coming from.

Colts fans do not seem to be so obnoxious… Maybe there are a few over on the Jets forum talking smack for all we know, but none of them have really came on here and said too much.

I think for the most part, most of them were cheering for a Vikings win. Maybe they thought we would be the easier team to beat? I don’t know.. I know that I was sort of rooting for the Jets, but only because I figured for Favre to be able to play his other former team, and beat them it would be the end to an awesome story.

We all know it would be his last season if it went down like that.

However, if he returns this coming season, he would get a chance to play the Jets. But he probably wouldn’t be looking for revenge, the Jets maybe would be looking for that.

by Deek on Feb 7, 2010 12:01 PM CST up reply actions

The Colts have been successful for most of the decade

and their fans have been pretty well mannered throughout their success.
The Saints are a fluke, and their fans have been obnoxious since they started out 6-0 at the beginning of the year..lol.

Third quarter surprise

Saints lead at the half. In the third quarter Pete Townsend sneaks onto the field and smashes Drew Brees in the knees with his guitar. Everyone sees it except for the ref’s. Brees manages to finish the game, but the Colts pull in front.

Colts 31 – Saints 10

I keep my loyalty in the NFC minus Dallas and Chicago!

Hope the Saints get beat....

Just the way they played in the game against us 2 weeks ago is enough for me to switch – originally was saying that if they beat us fair and square would go with them to get their first SB W – but not after the way they went after Favre….They deserve to get beat….We beat ourselves in that game, they did not beat us….anyway…GO COLTS (for this game!)…

don't like either team..go Colts

Colts play a brand of football I don’t like and find boring and their QB is annoying. However, I will be rooting for the Colts because the Saints play nasty football and are permanently on my feces roster, cause they done Vikings wrong and done BF wrong and done Kurt Warner wrong.
Also the Saints are really not that great and would have lost to Vikes without help from the football gods and NFL who decided it just wasn’t the Vikes day.

by lorenzo4 on Feb 7, 2010 1:55 PM CST reply actions

I didn't vote, because the third option was not there.

My choice isn’t based on who I want to win. It’s based on “who I do not want to win”, enough said.

by cryhavoc on Feb 7, 2010 2:20 PM CST reply actions

LOL

I doubt this game will end in a tie.
And I doubt either team could walk away losing.

Soo I couldn’t think of a 3rd option

haha

by Deek on Feb 7, 2010 2:36 PM CST up reply actions

Read it more carefully, Deek.

I didn’t suggest a tie. the pole was “Who do you want to win”. I wanted a “Who do you want to lose” poll.

I did not so much care who would win, but I really do want to see one team lose.

"What is best in life?"

Ya, but wouldn't you just vote...

for the opposite team that you wanted to lose.

For ex: If you really wanted the Saints to lose badly – Vote Colts.
HAHA

But I know what your saying now.

I would have, but where's the fun in that.

"Cheap Shots"

Not to restart an old argument…aww, who am I kidding….

My only cheap shot-related anger from the NFC Championship game is that the Vikings didn’t beat Brees to a pulp in the same way the Saints beat Favre to a pulp. If the Vikings had done that, we would be cheering for the Vikings against the Colts right now.

I guarantee you none of us would be saying “ya know, the Vikings finally made the Super Bowl, but I wish they hadn’t because of the way our team took cheap shots on Brees”.

If you want to blame someone for the “cheap shots” on Favre, blame the Vikings’ offensive line for not protecting him better. If Favre takes fewer hits I suspect the Vikings beat New Orleans, even with Harvin and Berrian’s fumbles.

Seriously, I don’t want to see us devolve into a bunch of whiny sore losers like Patriots fans.

by Midnight Rambler on Feb 7, 2010 7:02 PM CST up reply actions

Here's a question

As we all know, we have certain trolls (Saints fans..) who troll the boards.

If the Colts win.. Will they be around? Will they whine? Will they defend their team?
I do know, if the Saints do win, we’ll probably never hear the end of it from them.

I know I never go onto other sites of other fan bases to criticize their team. It’s not my style and most likely never will be.

by Deek on Feb 7, 2010 3:47 PM CST reply actions

Think either way we get 'em....

If they lose, will be great to see how they play their frustration here (I say defend team, unfair ref’ing), and if they win – well I am PRETTY sure I know how they will react (boorish)…

They just do not realize that we Viking fans hold memories a long time…so truly the best decision they can make either way W or L is to stay away from DN….wishful thinking on my part I am sure….

Colts

by FloridaownsFSU on Feb 7, 2010 4:56 PM CST reply actions

Meh

I’m watching the Super Bowl (Colts dominant so far, which I expected), but I’m not all that interested.

I don’t feel like getting bogged down in the gigantic cluster-flame war that I am sure the SBNation Super Bowl discussion thread will be, so I’ll just give my thoughts here.

I could have gone to a Super Bowl party, but I elected to stay home and do something constructive for a time instead of trying to watch a game I don’t care that much about with people who mostly aren’t in to football.

The older I get, the less I generally care about Super Bowls that don’t feature the Packers or Bears. The game two years ago between the 18-0 Pats and the Giants was an exception, as I wanted to see the Patriots and their arrogant fans humbled.

When the Packers or Bears make a Super Bowl, I go all in cheering for their opponent.

A Vikings Super Bowl would of course be awesome, but I have to wait at least another year for that. Sigh.

Anyhow, I guess I am pulling for the Colts, since I don’t want the Saints to win a Super Bowl before the Vikings do, but I am mainly interested because this is the last meaningful football game until September.

But Pete Townsand does not need to try and sing anymore. He still can play though.

Not overly excited about the game.

The game

Colts so far have done pretty good offensively. When they failed to convert on a 3rd down by a dropped pass, it seemed to somewhat be a game-changer.

Now, the Saints went for it on 4th down near the goal line and got stuffed.. Manning should of attempted a pass to get a first down I think, since it seemed they were trying to run to get a first down to kill down the clock.

Colts get it first in the 2nd half… Lets hope they’ve made some good adjustments and come out firing and put up more points.

Saints have been held to several 3 and outs.

Colts biggest disappointments has been coverage. On a 3rd down place, one guy was wide open. — You can’t have it be that easy for Brees to get a first down on a crucial play.

Yeah I know just didn't want to say it

The NFC side of the bracket was much harder. While I wanted the colts to win they just didn’t have to face the same level of competition that the saints did. As the old saying goes to be the best you have to play the best.

Skol and can’t wait until Sept

by SouthernNorseman on Feb 7, 2010 8:52 PM CST via mobile reply actions

no way man

Drew brees is the only decent dude on that roster. Screw the rest of them, including the owner who if I remember correctly wanted to move the team out of nawlins a few years ago. Lots of douches on the saints team, but not drew brees.

by noblepete on Feb 7, 2010 9:07 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Great Saints...

I’m not happy for the Saints fans, and their victory—I lost that way of thinking some time over the last decade.

In 1999, after the Gary Anderson game, I wanted the Falcons to beat Denver. The Broncos had won the Super Bowl a year before (by beating Favre and the Packers, which was AWESOME!), and I wanted to see someone new win the Super Bowl. I did not blame the Falcons for beating the Vikings that year, just like I don’t blame the Saints for beating the Vikings two weeks ago. Likewise, I cheered for the Giants in the 2001 Super Bowl after they humiliated my Vikings.

Since then, I’ve grown older, more bitter, and more cynical. I hold no ill will against New Orleans and their NFL franchise as a result of the NFC Championship game…I just wanted to see them lose, and I don’t care about how Katrina made Saints fans more deserving. What I cared about is not seeing yet another NFL franchise make it to the Super Bowl and win it, before the Vikings get a chance to do so.

It used to be I could say “yeah, the Vikings lost four Super Bowls, but the Cardinals/Panthers/Bears/Seahawks/Bucs/Saints have never even been there.” I can’t say that any more, much less say in some cases that they have never won a Super Bowl.

I’m tired of seeing other NFC teams make it to the Super Bowl while the Vikings continually and reliably blow their opportunities. I am a bitter and petty sports fan (the ‘87 and’91 Twins teams are growing more distant in the rearview mirror every day), and so I would rather see teams like the Saints crash and burn in the Super Bowl, which unfortunately did not happen tonight.

by Midnight Rambler on Feb 7, 2010 9:09 PM CST reply actions

Torn between NFC victory or a Saints loss.

Looking at the overwhelming stats of the conference game, I’m sure the Vikings would have beaten the Colts.

Next year is the Vikings year. No doubt about it.
