According to Judd Zulgad, LaDainian Tomlinson "is in Minneapolis and dining with Vikings brass as I type." And by "I," what I mean here is "he." I'm not Judd Zulgad, after all. Link goes to Judd's Twitter feed.

Sounds Like LT smells a winner

I can smell it too. Brett Favre better be watching. Now we need a solid CB. OL, and Re-Sign DE Ray Edwards. Oh and kick Tyrell Johnson in the nuts and say “Welcome to the NFL!” so he can play better.

Skol Vikings!!

Classic!

Maybe we should go back after Sharper if the Nut Cracker doesn’t work with Tyrell’s holiday plans.

Did he come a day early?

I thought he was supposed to meet with the brass tomorrow…either way, welcome to Minny LT, stay for a while!

Being Wined and Dined as We Speak!!

Chilly, Bienemy, Pat Williams, Bevell all in attendance. Seems 80% chance likely we can see him in a Purple uniform, dark visor and all as a Viking.

Yes, I’ll start out with the kick-ass house salad with some kick-ass Italian dressing. . .and for my entree I’d like the kick-ass ribeye with kick-ass asparagus and kick-ass mashed potatoes, and to drink I’ll have some of your most kick-ass merlot.

at the very least

No matter what happens, at the very least he got a good meal out of the trip.

I hope he signs with us. If I were LT, though, this might be my only chance to really test free agency. If he wants to visit other teams, that shouldn’t be worrisome to us.

Bad news: we might lose Jimmy Kennedy

Our depth at defensive tackle might get thinner in the near future, as Jimmy Kennedy is visiting Buffalo . I hope he returns to the Vikings.

Yah

I thought Kennedy was looking real good at the end of the year. With Pat playing only another year we really need to keep him if we can

Just read where Sansevere says...

Harvin is better suited to play Chesters role. I have one thing to say “is he out of his mond?”
Hey Bob. Who is our other option in the slot that can be the threat in multiple ways Harvin is?
Harvin isn’t any more a blocker than LT. At least LT knows something about it. Sure. put Harvin there and watch how long his carreer lasts. Harvin is the ultimate “slot machine” and left there wil have a long carreer. When he was given the ball in too many rushing attempts Percy would get hurt.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Percy. I love to see them sneak him the ball on the run. But, I was so impressed by what he apparently picked up from Chris Carter why would you take miles off a good car by getting it beat up. I hope they keep Percy in the slot, toss in more wildcat options. Especially if T-Jax is still around. Let Jax come in for 8-10 wildvat plays. AD,LT and Percy with Jax now playing a one option pass play, then tuck it and run if it isn’t there. Shoot, we gave up a couple picks for this carreer backup QB, let him run the dang ball, have LT and percy run short routes and then a delay action counter handoff to AD, Percy slides around to give the illusion of a reverse and hit LT running an out pattern, fake the long ball to Barrian or Rice and hand it off to Percy on a modified reverse.
Jeez. The options are scary if Chilly will open up that playbook. and lets BF change plays at the line.
But please, don’t put harvin in as a set back unless it is absolutely needed.

by CitrusFLViking on Mar 10, 2010 10:41 PM CST reply actions

Ooops-"mind"

I hope they are feeding LT good. A few drinks and some videos on a big screen of South Beach and maybe he’ll sign tonite

by CitrusFLViking on Mar 10, 2010 10:44 PM CST reply actions

Has anyone asked AD what he thinks?

As others have correctly said, LT is no longer a big impact guy; best case scenario (in terms of on-the-field output) is a solid receiving and decent blocking back (neither as good as Chester) who can carry about 5 times a game to reduce the load on Adrian. But is that minor on-the-field impact worth it if:

1) LT’s EGO (it is big, by all accounts) starts b*tching about touches?

2) Say AD fumbles a couple of times early in the season, but is producing great. Will fans and the media start crying for Chilly to go conservative and give it to LT, just to limit fumbles, at the expense of giving the best RB in football the rock? Will this create more pressure on AD about the fumbles?

3) How much of this is about winning games vs. selling tickets?

I’m concerned about all these things. We’ll see what happens, but I sure as heck wish we still had Chester. The best thing I can say about this is that this probably indicates that Favre IS coming back, since LT said he "wants to go somewhere with an established QB who gives the team a chance to win a SuperBowl."

Either that or no one else wants LT!

by Ace991 on Mar 11, 2010 12:35 AM CST reply actions

LT is no longer the impact player he once was

As a Charger fan I’ve watched his production decrease dramatically over the last couple years. He no longer possesess the speed he once had. The linebackers are just as fast if not faster than him now and he goes absolutely NO WHERE on runs to the outside. I saw a couple flashes of the old LT last year but nothing spectacular, and I don’t remember LT breaking one big run last year AT ALL. He is okay in goal line situations but sometimes completely ineffective. (see the first KC game last year.)

I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t expect too much from LT if you do aquire him.

by SoCalBoltFan on Mar 11, 2010 6:48 PM CST up reply actions

character and fairness

LT has very good character. In San Diego, he kept his integrity despite playing for a sometimes questionable organization.

I remember last year watching a Chargers game. LT went off and the offense stormed down the field. LT took the ball to the one-yard line and was tackled. The coach pulled LT out of the game, put another running back in. On TV, LT’s facial reaction revealed that he was infuriated. The other running back came in and got stuffed. LT would have had a touchdown. He may be 31, but he is LaDanian Tomlinson and he will get the job done. Years of frustration with the Chargers built up. Here is a Hall of Famer and they still pulled him out of a game after all he has done, and all he can do, and all he just did. To help the team the most, they should have left him in. Yet, the Chargers coach pulled LT out of the game either to punish him for not being Norv Turner’s player, or because Norv Turner was irrational and thought LT was unable to score a touchdown.

It reminded me of when Barry Sanders would tote the ball to the one-yard line, then get pulled out of the game. The Lions coaches actually thought Sanders did not know how to run in goal-line situations. It was their loss. Despite that idiotic practice, Barry Sanders still scored over 100 touchdowns in his career. Imagine if the Lions had actually trusted one of the greatest running backs and one of the greatest Detroit Lions ever. Instead they didn’t trust Barry Sanders with the football.

If there is any lesson for the Vikings, it’s this. We have got to trust our players, especially when they are our best players. They will win the game for us. If they can’t, they can’t, but at least we gave them the opportunity. With our team, and adding LT would improve it, I like our chances.

Childress or Bevell have a good sense of when to leave a running back in the game at the goal line. A running back who carries the team down the field should typically have an opportunity to score the TD. Not always, because sometimes the tight end or somebody will come open, but typically the running.

If somebody does something good, that somebody should be rewarded. It’s basic fairness. Without basic fairness on a football team, things go bad. When you have basic fairness on the team, everyone can just focus on the main job, which is playing good football and winning the game. The Vikings have basic fairness.

I am starting to really like the idea of Tomlinson with our team. Tomlinson is unique and incredibly gifted. He could help the team.

Doubt you will find more up-to-date status infor than there.

I believe...

The next visit being the Jets puts a little bit of a stop to the process…
Is LT going to like playing for the Jets? They’re a better team built now for running the ball.
Would LT wish to be a 1st string RB? Could he take the abuse of running w/ the ball as often as the Jets call runnings plays…. (League high, and I believe the % was 65% — But don’t hold me to those stats..)….

by Deek on Mar 11, 2010 11:09 AM CST up reply actions

True...

But there has been no solid evidence as of yet..

And, he may decide he wants to see what the Jets have to offer before making a decision…… I’m sure he already has an idea what he’ll be getting out of the jets though..

by Deek on Mar 11, 2010 12:42 PM CST up reply actions

I doubt the Jets make him the premier back

Shone Green will be their main back with LT and Washington sharing carries depending on situation.

I may be old but I... oh d*mn, I forgot what I was going to say.

They need to keep him here til it is done

NY will shine all the bright lights on LT’s ego. He doesn’t need the media of NY jumping on him right off the bat. Ny may want himto be an every down back and I think he is asking for huge critisim by the Times and other NY media pages.
He need to be offered the best we can do right now. NY and LT are as good as fir as Brett was.
Nobodyis going to expect 100 yad games of him (maybe combined) in Minn. His carreer will last longer if not thrown into a role that is not good for him.
LT-Jets $ may look good now but if it turns out to be a one and done year from too much wear and tear, is it worth it. the bucks in Minn may be small and your role smaller, but your usefulness might last another 3 years and that equates to more $ and a better legacy to leave on your Hall of Fame resume. You goto NY Jets and they offer you the bank but cut you if you can’t do what Thomas Jones did. Kind of a sad end to a carreer.
Stay in Minn and sign. No one expects you to be what you were or take over for AP but we will bust a roof blowing cheer when you pull off a TD scamper or catch when no one was targeting you.
It’s a legacy choice, long term more $ choice, and a love/hate choice. NY will turn on you like a pit bull on a 3 legged poodle (no Vick heroics intended).
Before you go, think about it. NY will promise the bank. No one in SD is going to look at you in any ad light after what you did for them, nor would Minny fans in your role. Ny will eat your heart out in a year.
DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! Stay here. Negotiate a fair deal and realize we are not going to feed you to the wolves. Well. the T-Wolves if you take in a game, but they can’t hurt anyone.

by CitrusFLViking on Mar 11, 2010 3:49 PM CST reply actions

Well, they didn't "Keep him there..."

Looks like LT is indeed going to visit NY. Personally, I don’t really want him; all of you guys are just star-struck by his name and PAST accomplishments, but read the Chargers’ fan’s post above; he watched LT the last TWO YEARS and concludes that the guy has nothing left, but the guy thinks he still does and has a huge ego. Give me Albert Young and/or a solid 4th round RB to back up AD.
