Childress: "AD and LT are 1 and 1A" WTF?!?

Read this:

"I really look at it as a guy that if we were fortunate enough to get him, we would have a 1 and 1A," Childress told Mike Morris of KFAN.

I usually defend Childress, but this is shameful and potentially a team-killing comment. I'm disgusted and speachless, so I'm just going to reprint the excellent comment of a reader on PFT:

"Nice of Chilly to dismiss the importance of your #1 offensive weapon. If I was Peterson, I would be looking to play out my contract and sign with a HC/Team that truly appreciated my talent.

Why does Childress think he has the luxury of making statements like, we can wait for Favre to make up his mind, because with Favre we are a good team and without Favre we are a good team. It's because Peterson is in the backfield making teams pay attention to the run on 100% of the downs that he is in the game . . . teams stack the box when AP is in the game trying to not get burned by 5 yard runs.

Boy talk about biting the hand that feeds you . . . 30 other teams (note: Vikings have AP and Titans are happy with C. Johnson) would kill to replace their current backfield with AP, fumbles and all.

Talk about idiotic statements, you are going to diss your best player to chase after an over-the-hill, tank-empty, has-been"

If the Vikings get LT (I hope they don't) and they bend over for LT's EGO, they are 100% screwed next season, with or without Favre. Keep f'ing with Adrian's confidence, bringing in washed-up divas who haven't done sh*t in the postseason...man, I think the Vikes have blown it.

Folks, calm down. Childress comment about AP and LT being 1 and 1A doesn’t mean anything. Vikes told LT exactly what role would be.

He’s trying to be tactful and respectful to one of the best backs in NFL history. I thought it was a good move, actually.

He was obviously saying that with two guys of that caliber you have two great weapons. Tomlinson might not be the guy he was a couple of years ago, but Childress is right to pay him respect.

In the annals of NFL history, Peterson hopes one day to be where Tomlinson is now, or higher, but Peterson is not there now.

you need to relax a little man. i think that you might be reading into that a bit too much. i agree with milcardfan & medicneball, he is trying to PLAY UP LT, not play down AP. adrian knows full well that he is the clear cut #1. i have to say though, i love your enthusiasm for the Vikings.

I agree with Ace991.........................

AD is the best back in the league. He deserves to get all the praise.

LT is a mere compliment to the great AD.

We don’t want AD finishing his career anywhere other than Minnesota.

I hate Chilly But glad what he said

Look, AP is a good back, one of the best, huge Viking fan here and dont think he is the best in the league. I think after his fumbling problem last year, he dosent deserve to be the lone 1. 1 and 1A should not bother AP, it should motivate him and he should be happy that the team wants to compliment the offense with a guy like Tomlinson and get a damn ring. If signing Tomlinson means that Brett returns and we could go to the bowl, then do it. I think if we got them both and won it all, no one in here would be knockin Chilly. Love Adrian, but he should be fine with a 1 and 1A scenario if LT comes in.

Seriously, some people are deficient in understanding about how PR works and how a good manager shows respect ot his employees — including prospective ones.

Anyway, now it’s all moot.
