Vikings 2010 Draft Picks
Hello Vikings Fans,
does anyone know all of the picks in this years draft are?, did we get compensatory picks from Matt
Birk?. etc... where would one find that information? SKOL draft is in 1 month, time to get serious about who our leaders will pick. I am hoping for Dan LeFevour from Central Michigan, in the 3rd round, and I am curious how many 3rd round pics we have this year. Farve will be mentoring more than T-Jack. LeFevour will DeVour the competition. Heard it here first. Rick out

Good to see another LeFevour fan.
We’ll probably have bigger needs to address in the third round still, but you never know.
In AP I trust

I like LeFevour too
But, CB is a bigger NEED. I agree with going with best player available. Cant wait for DRAFT DAY !!!!
Compensatory picks
These are awarded pursuant to a secret formula administered by the NFL. I know this sounds fake but it is really true. Until announced no one knows exactly what any team will be awarded. Here is a link to the one guy who has reversed engineered the formula and has been pretty close on his predictions.
He believes we will get a 6th round comp pick ( maybe a 5th rounder) for Matt Birk.

I like what LeFevour has accomplished in college but he does look like a long term project to most pro scouts. He, like Colt McCoy, is rated as not being able to make the out throw with enough speed to work well in the pro game. I suspect he will fall below the 3rd round.

howdy
the schedule comes out after the 1st week of april. supp’s around that time too. i believe jackson and cook may bring a 4-5th rd picks if possible. from what i have read birk and sharper may bring two # 5’s. i’m still hopeful udeze’s departure could reward us some suprize compensation. as of yet we only have or standard 7 picks. le fevour will go in the second. the team is hinting towards an offensive impact guy in the 1st , DB in the second and a DL in the third.. dont count out a top three center in the first three rds.. best available is key because if the right guy falls we have the depth to go after any position. we wont trade away to move up. the draft is deep enough thru the top 200.
a sneak peek at the 2010 schedule
go to a sight like scout.com and pretend you want to purchase a game ticket and a list of opponents will appear.
I’ve considered putting together a “What Does a Chilly QB Look Like?” fanpost, but haven’t as I’m not sure it’s worth it. He clearly likes athletes at the position: he got his name by working with Donovan McNabb, he drafted Tarvaris Jackson and Tyler Thigpen, the Vikings brought in Pat White a day or two before the draft last year for a late workout….the Vikings have also moved on the Rosenchoppa and John David Booty, but I suspect Rosenchoppa was a Spielman “enough’s enough” pick up, and they drafted Booty because of the system he played in at USC. And Favre’s Favre. When given his druthers, I’m convinced Chilly wants an outstanding athlete at the position. LeFevour probably fits the bill there.
However, Chilly almost always brings up arm strength and release first thing when talking QB evaluation. LeFevour has a quick release, but his arm strength’s questionable. So I wonder if that—combined with no experience in a pro style offense or making reads—would push him off the radar. I just think a Viking QB draftee will either have an outstanding physical toolset, or experience in a WCO type team, and LeFevour might come up short in both.
But who knows? I also think QB might be one position where there may be a difference of opinion between the coach and the VP, just based on player types they have associated with in the past.
What a great idea. You would do well with that post..
Is there enough information to make a decision? Where does Spielman fit in? The one guy who has NEVER yet drafted a QBOF. Why didn’t Thigpen work here but he did other places?
The QB question. Many questions. Few answers.
One other thing. Large Arm, Pro style offense, quick release, accuracy? Could anyone describe Clausen any better? Just asking?

Question
other than some crazy scheme where we give three players to Tampa (along with a player we don’t actually even have yet) how on earth would we ever get Clausen?
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Same way others do it. Either trade draft picks or players to move up in the draft.
This really is an opportunity if the Vikings choose to exercise it. I am not saying it will happen. I’m saying it could. Lets just assume the triangle of scouting, coaching, and management all agree that Clausen is the guy. Then you have to decide at what price is he worth it? #3 pick, #5 pick, #10 pick? Then simply call up and find out what the price is to move up? You do have tp pay a fair price to get something.
Your #10 for our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd plus whatever player is fair. Is it expensive? Yes. Could it include a pick from next year? Yes.
If your a good team you either have to wait for a year with 6 first round QBs (seldom), train a project (Tarvaris didn’t work out), or pay for a good QB possibility. What makes this year special for the Vikes is that no salary cap exists which means you don’t have to trade great players to afford a QB and Farve’s salary drops off next year. Also some of the top teams in the draft want to cut salary not take on the price of the #3 pick, ect.
What has me contemplating this is the fact that they have given up on Tarvaris. This management team is not going to wait one year and then bring in a rookie. So it is a top rookie or bust this year scenario. Otherwise we will be bringing in another veteran next year. Remember, Sage’s contract is only for one more year and he is already 32 years old.
If we don’t make a move this year for a rookie all the talk about McNabb next year when he is a free agent will make more sense to me. Personally I would rather pay now for a young QBOF. If we had time to wait for a Robinson, Skelton, Crompton, or other project I would be fine with that. But I think , with our timeframe, that Clausen could be the target.
Yes, there is risk involved. But not the future of the team. If Clausen busts you haven’t mortgaged your soul. Just your kidney. You have two of those so your safe.

I hear you. Makes me wish we'd gone after Cutler a bit more last year
Of course he sucked last season but I think he would have done better in Minny. Well will say this I would rather gamble big that just piddle away at the table all night and realize the net gain was the same…

Thanks. Maybe I’ll give it a shot. Or someone else can if they want.
If I recall, they liked Thigpen, but during some numbers game stuff with the roster they tried to sneak him to the practice squad and he was poached. I think Chilly was upset about it, actually.
As for Clausen, I still get the feeling he’s going lower than a lot of people think. If he slides out of the top 10 and the Vikings like him, I think they’ll make a move. No idea how much they’ll like him, though.
draft picks
I don’t know if the poster was asking about this, but the Vikings have all of their draft picks this year, rounds 1 through 7. They pick 30th in each round, except for the 3rd round, where they pick 29th because the Redskins gave up their pick to make a supplemental draft pick last year. Lifelongvike discussed the possible compensatory pick above.
As for Dan LeFevour, put me down as another non-believer.
Vikings 3 round mock
1} Terrance Cody, DT Tennessee
2} Toby Gerhart, RB Stanford
3} Dan LeFevour, QB Cent Mich
Don't think Cody fits our system
and it’s pretty high for him as well. From what’s been said on this site (by smarter people than myself) he’s a big fat bastard more suitable to working as a NT than a DT.
