Joe Montana on Favre's return: Favre coming back, but wants to avoid training camp
http://network.yardbarker.com/author/article_external/2265353?widget=true
Joe Montana is confident that Brett Favre will return to football this season, but believes the 40-year-old quarterback is playing coy with his plans because he doesn’t want to go to training camp.
“He says he’s not sure [about playing] because he doesn’t want to go to training camp. He’s smart,” Montana said. “I’m sure he already has that agreement with them. Nine chances out of 10 they already know and they’ve already had this whole conversation and they should just let everybody know because they know he’s going to come back.
“He knows he’s going to come back, but the reason they don’t say anything is because he doesn’t want to go through training camp,” Montana said. “If he didn’t have to go through training camp, his decision would already be made, but he should know by now going to training camp isn’t going to be hard. They’d never make it hard on him.”
Seeing as how the Vikings have shown zero signs of panicking about Favre’s pending decision, I think Montana is right on the money. Favre has always disliked going to training camp, so it would make sense that he would have an agreement with the Vikings that he’d return as long as he doesn’t have to go to camp.
The Vikings haven’t made any moves yet pertaining to their quarterback situation that would suggest Favre isn’t coming back. And with Favre’s familiarity with Brad Childress’ offense, it wouldn’t take him long to get ready for the season if he skipped camp and showed up when the team started their regular practices. Personally, I think he should be in camp with his teammates, but maybe that’s just me.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think this writer has a very good insight that Childress and the rest of his staff are not concerned in the least about whether Favre decides not to come back and have made no preparations for the QB slot should he not. Are they privvy to information we don't know? Do they know he's already a lock and keeping it under wraps so that he can avoid camp?
Don't mean to beat a dead horse but I found this interesting.

Don't think so Joe
It could be a conspiracy but why? If they said Farve is coming back but not coming to training camp everyone would understand. It is much more possible that he wants to come back but just is waiting to see if the body can cooperate with the mind this year.
The fans in Minnesota are not hung up on training camp. Neither is Spielman, Childress, or Farve. At least that’s my take on it.
Winning is not everything but it sure feels like it sometimes
I think he's probably coming back
With stress on probably. I remember the look on his wife’s face when he got hurt the first time against the Saints, and even if he’s willing to overlook the Viking’s porous front line, his family isn’t. I think there’s probably going to be a caveat attached, and that would be that the Vikings make a significant commitment to protecting him.

Yeah Favre wants to skip training camp
but I’m sure there’s more to it than that.
I’m sure he wants to see who’s still on the team in August before he decides on anything in March……..It’s only been like 7wks since the NFCCG was played….We still got another month before the draft.
Based on the previous 2yrs, IMO… we wont see Favre until the preseason.
he's a sly one
I hope he makes it back in time for QB signature day at camp? I t might be worth the dirve up…….
My thoughs...
If Favre comes back, I can put money on that we won’t see him in the training camp.
Remember, he almost did not sign with us for last year. In fact, we even played a preseason game w/o him, and he signed soon after.
He did sign for 2 years, so he knows that this could be a 2 year run to get what he’s shooting for. He does know that the Vikings are a great team, and that we haven’t lost many starters, or any real key players. We’re great in the draft, and we have options for free agency. I still think we’ll be a force that will be hard to beat. I think Favre knows that.
Our schedule may seem harder, but we can still beat any team. Some of those harder games, I would gladly play at home. Would the return of Favre to the Jets be as big as Favre vs. the Packers?? That would be a little interesting to watch..
Favre had a season that he may not be able to top unless it ends with a ring on his finger. He didn’t get it, so the chances of wanting to come back are still there. I am sure he’s feeling pretty healthy as of now, but, he’s in a situation I am sure where he doesn’t want to make any definite decisions.
Overall, my theory is, at the moment he’s heavily leaning towards coming back and feels good about doing it. But wants to make sure he doesn’t jump the gun in case the front office doesn’t do anything in what he would be thinking as the right direction.
Luckily, he’s had 1 year of experience as being a Viking.. We know we can pass & run.. Just use what works….
I hope Chilly & Favre go over the play book w/ more in-depth…. Utilize the experience that Favre can give..
This is my feeling on it.
No one, and I mean no one expected what happened last year. Least of all Favre. He joined this team for two years becuase he thought that was what it was going to take to get him gelled up with everyone and ready to be a serious contender. Who would have thought a QB in his first year with a team would have shined like that? I garuntee he didn’t.
So yeah I believe he came into this with the idea that two years is what is was going to give it. It would be interesting to see Favres reaction to all of our hyperbole.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
No... But,
When they went over his contract, they maybe were thinking realistically that it would take him two years to get what his goal was….
He was sooo close, I am going to think he is quite a bit tempted to try again. I would at least hope so anyways.
Hey it worked last year
If the man doesn’t want to go to training camp, don’t make him
he could use that time for playbook/film study

Brett Favre doesn’t need training camp, neither does the Williams Wall, Steve Hutchinson, and one or two other veterans. The rest of them need it but not these guys.
I don’t blame him for wanting to avoid TC.
Age factor...
A lot of these Veterans can use a pass on TC.
Keep them fresher.. GIve them a little bit of a lighter work out….
Each player knows their body better than anyone else, let them choose.
If the first game of the season is in New Orleans...........
He may not come back till the second game……………if at all. Not being in “Playing shape” could be very dangerous for anybody his age. The beating he took in the NFCCG is still in the back of his mind and will make him very skittish as he gets older. Time to hang them up Brett…………………..
My Magnificent Black and Gold Warriors
cali viking
he will hang them up after he takes the vikes to the super bowl for victory and after he gets revenge on ur lucky ass team the saints mark my words brees will b on his ass all day long
Why would it matter when their game falls??
Both the Vikings & Favre tend to start off great….
They’ve normally tended to have a great start to a season.
Not to often do they have the late-season catch-up play-off making experience.
the way you're making it sound....
is that Favre doesn’t work out and train on his own, he just sits back and eats donuts all day until around September.
Favre definitely doesn’t need training camp. He proved it in 2009. He actually proved a lot of things in 2009. After allmost 2 decades if not missing a single game, Favre knows what it takes to get his body ready for the season.
Also maybe Brees should call in sick week 1, just so you guys have an excuse.
Ya..... Maybe a call in w/ a case of the Squirts....
I’m sure after the front four get to him all day long, he may have some chocolate legs..
I dont know what ya'll been smoking but
you obviously did not watch the NFCCG. Favre cannot run and your defense only got to Brees one time during the whole game. I dont see that changing this coming year. When we payed ya’ll last, we had a back up at left tackle and your defense still could not get to Brees.
As far as Brett coming back…………I dont see it happening. He showed signs of fatigue toward the end of the season and he now has nothing to prove. He only came back to beat the Packers, which he did twice and now it’s time to hang them up. He had a great run for two decades and he should bow out and not submit his old body to any more punishment…………
My Magnificent Black and Gold Warriors
Could It Be...
that your greatest wish is for him to retire so your team won’t have to face him again this year. Face it. He took the best shots the Saints had to offer and still brought the Vikes back to the brink of victory despite 5 turnovers. You try to argue that our defense didn’t get to Brees yet we didn’t have to. We moved the ball up and down the field against your so-so defense. Apparently you’re still partying on Bourbon Street and it’s affected your view of reality as you’re making the same lame observations made by others about Brett last year….He won’t hold up all season….All he wants to do is beat the Packers…His body can’t take the punishment….Blah blah blah. Obviously, you’re the one who didn’t watch the NFC Championship. It took 5 turnovers and several questionable calls by the refs in OT for your boys to squeak out a win. Tainted victory? Yeah, it appears that way.

Answers by paragraph...........
Bring him on.(Sept 9, 2010)…………Feed him Viagra before the game….. He took the best shots straight to the hospital…..the brink was 12 men in the huddle…Duh……Interception !!! Chasing fumbles up and down the field………..Bourbon Street is open 24-7 and still kicking…….Observations by others reinforces mine………Yes I did and loved it !!!! You said it, 5 TO’s……………We paid the refs I guess ?………………A squeak trumps a brink………….A Victory is a Victory………………….One more comment to your rant……….You need to take a breath and calm down. Aint good for you health.

Typical Louisiana....
Finally win something in sports and actually start to believe that you’re a dynasty…Now I know why I left that state. He won’t need viagara….he’ll do just fine. Hope you enjoy the ONE and ONLY championship your state has EVER won in any professional sport and you needed the refs to win that one. So you’re saying that after 5 turnovers you didn’t need those highly questionable calls in OT to win that game? You are delusional. You bunch of Bourbon Street Coonasses were about to piss your pants when Brett kept coming back after your team’s cheap shots (most not called…gee, I wonder why not?) to rally the Vikes. Observations by others gives you reinforcement? So sorry you need the support since you can’t make a quality argument on your own. The fact is your team needed help to win. Extremely bad calls and no-calls against the Vikings were verified after the game by the head of the NFL referees…but I guess you missed that. BTW, did you mean to write “your” when referring to my health or do you cajuns still actually talk like that?
You do know that you didn't record a sack that game
And we did. Now you recorded a lot of hurries and late hits, but then we’re trying not to hold that against you.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Farvre running for his life with four man rush.......Defense designed to hurry him
because of his propencity to throw interceptions…………It worked !!!!!!!!!!

The Saints Suck!
The best part about their NFCCG Victory is nobody cares. haha.
Everybody (except for Saints fans) feel that the Vikings were the better team that day.
Favre puts up 300+ yards passing, while Brees barely puts up 200 yards.
The Saints come up on 5 turnovers, but couldn’t score on their own. They needed the refs to win the game, and they were @Home too. How pathetic is that ?….I’ll tell you. It’s about as pathetic as coming over here and gloating about it…….LOSER!
You need to read further up..............Lombardi Trophy is sweet......Thanks !!!!
We could not have done it without you……………………..Enjoy your new rule !!!!
My Magnificent Black and Gold Warriors
It's not our rule Dummy
The Vikes voted NO on the new rule change. It was the NFL who wanted the change, not the Vikes…

once again, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Why don’t you just go back to the Crap Street Diaries you came from. I highly doubt that the peope who are in charge over there are happy with you coming over here and giving them a bad name.
Learn to read an article!!!
The Vikings voted against the RULE!!
We have faith in our reliable FG Kicker, Longwell, unlike many other teams who had kickers missing often.
Your team was lucky enough to win a few games due to missed easy field goals..
Man, y'all started it.............I was just talking football but y'all are over the top
Get over it and I’ll see you in September. In the mean time………….enjoy y’alls whinner Rule.

Really? Someone here forced you to come to the DN and start crap?
You’d do better to move along, rather than continue to stir up ill-will.

All y'alls crying and complaining after the game brought it on..............
Had y’all won……nothing would have ever been said…………See you in September
Dumb ass and your gonna feel really bad when we beat you again. You better hope Favre does come back cause your going to need him…….Jackson aint gonna do it.
My Magnificent Black and Gold Warriors
You didn't come over to talk football,
You came here to talk shit.
This is a thread about Montana thinking Favre will come back again. It has nothing to do with the NFCCG. It has nothing to do with the new OT rule, and it has nothing to do with the Saints at all, but you still decided to post on how Favre is probably too scared to play the Saints next year, and he should probably sit that game out.
You say you’re not a troll, but evidence says otherwise. If you want to talk football, that’s cool. but coming here and talking shit isn’t going to get you the respect you’re looking for.
True that!
And I doubt Favre is scared of the Saints…
Favre is an ironman..
And he would still come on to the field with two busted knee caps..
I’m sure we can’t say the same about Brees!!!
Hey chaosg
I lived down in Louisiana for a number of years and he’s one of those that give the state a bad name and reinforces every stereotype you ever heard about them. There are some good people down there but obviously he falls into the opposite category.
cali viking
smooth chaosg i need to b like u and b more calm but its hard when dumb shits like saint sly come here talking stupid shit the guy has no clue i shouldnt get all worked up he"s not worth it the vikings will do the talking when they destroy them when they play again and favre will rip them up
Anyway, Favre will be back
We lost the NFCCG and we’ll have a chance next year to kick their teeth in. Leave it, he’s bored and looking for some fun. If you want to get back at him go down to his site and post a bunch of garbage. Then when you get banned you can call them all sissies or whatever makes you feel better.
Remember Saints fans aren’t used to winning, this is new for them so they working on how to handle it well. Some fans do well with it some fans, well they emulate Dallas. So far most Saints fans are dealing with it well, others well I guess they like Dallas fans if they so want to act like them.

No kidding..
I think they have won like 2 playoff games since they became a franchise??
In 2008, their season, they were at the bottom of their division…
In other words, that would be like the LIONS winning the superbowl this year…
To win the Lombardi, not only do you need a good team, but luck needs to bounce your way. Many have said this, and it sure bounced the Saints way more often than not..
If you see
If you see Favre throwing ball the high school kids in Hattesburg he will be back……for the last couple years that was his training camp. If he and Chilly have some type of agreement he should say something, he has EARNED the right to skip camp, he should just speak up and stop yanking the Vikings fan around.
BTW: For the record Farve will be back

I dunno… we seem to be running ok on faith, maybe religion suits the Purple Flock….

Seriously, I do agree with you. Favre’s being a jerk if he intends to return but won’t publically commit to it. Maybe he and the missus are having a ‘discussion’ on the issue…

On the other hand, Haters will be greatful…. I really wish not to have the haters be happy.
